MM Warriors Part Deux (As of October 27)

Natalie - dont know why you are having ambivalent feelings about church, but do try to get yourself back to HIM! Faith is the greatest gift we can give ourselves and it helps so much to get us through the toughest of times. There are many services broadcast on sunday mornings...dont know if you can tune in to Thomas Road Baptist church or not...but Pastor Falwell is an amazing preacher, and his sermons are very easy to relate to modern times and our current struggles...not alot of fire and brimstone stuff!! I always feel so uplifted after the hour is over...in fact I find myself wishing it would go on for ANOTHER hour instead of wishing it would be over like I did when I was a kid!

Lisa - we were doing SO well, and then you had to ruin a good hot tub with olives!! I have looked high and low for the greek yogurt...my daughter will have nothing else BUT that, but to no avail here...my store brand plain yogurt is 18g per cup, with 9 sugars...so I usually do a half cup with some of my Torani SF raspberry syrup and about a dozen raspberries thrown in for good measure! YUM...

My Gluten-Free menu for this week:

8:30am - yogurt with raspberries

1pm - 1 cup milk with turkey rollups and salad, or tuna salad

5:30pm - tilapia with brown rice and asparagus, or black bean chili

10:30pm - Shakeology

3:30am - frozen grapes

I usually have a handful of almonds or some celery with cream cheese or PB when I get home from the gym...exercise makes me hungry!!!

And I have my decaf at work around noon with some vanilla atkins shake stirred in...then I finish off the shake later between lunch and dinner...

What do you think? Look gluten free to you?

This is the first couple weeks I have had any beans at all, so they couldnt have been causing the bloat, hopefully eating them this week wont bring it back on!

Hi Jocelyn - I just had to let you know that the Chili Parlor chili recipe is the BOMB!! I had some for supper and it was really good!! And the Baileys in the coffee really made my morning too! Thank you so much for sharing all these great recipes with us! I did find canned sweet potatoes with no syrup, but I rinsed them off anyway just in case...going to alternate them with brown rice with my tilapia for lunch at work this week.

I dont have a Costco nearby, but I wonder if our Sams Club might have that greek yogurt? Hmmmm, havent been there in awhile, might have to make a stop in next weekend and investigate!

Hi Robin,

I should be doing something constructive, but the back is re-covering from the shopping trip so am sitting here!!! Much more fun than doing work!! I do have laundry going as Bob went on his walk and his clothes go right into the washer!!!

I would definitely check your Sam's Club as the Greek syle yogurt is soooo popular these days. You might also check for the sugar free syrups as Da Vinci said they sell to Sam's Club. I don't have a membership there - one is enough, but I think they do have some really good things there, too. I guess I should walk through one again, just to see what they do have these days.

Isn't it amazing what the extra spices do to that chili. I can't believe I had forgotten all about it.

I also bought a new crock-pot today!! Not sure where I will put it, but think I have a spot for it. The one I have been using is small and I have a tendancy to overload it. There are few things that would not fit into it so I can now try some new things.:banana: The box said it was suitable for 7 people which made me laugh as there are only the 2 of us!!!

I got Andrea Bocelli's new Christmas CD today - quite nice. It was at Barnes and Noble when I was there the other day, but didn't want to pay the price and then saw it at Costco - much better price!!!

Til later.......

Jocelyn,

Please let me know what you work out for the carb count on the sweet potato pie. The sweet potatoes are an 11-20 on step 2 and the molasses is 16 gr for the Tablespoon. I think all the rest of the ingredients are free. I would like to know how much I could have on step 2. Must be more that 1/2 cup as there is that amount of sweet potato in 1/3 of the pie. I'm planning to fix this for thanksgiving and want to have some kind of an idea what my portion could be.
My family really liked it and requested that I make it for Thanksgiving. I will feel less guilty eating this than pumpkin pie. Just don't use canned sweet potatoes as I tried that tonight and they were too hard and not very much flavor to them.

Thanks,
Carol
Step 2

Feast upon the Words of Christ

Hi everyone. I'm really tired, and need to sleep as we have an early appointment in Tampa tomorrow. Sorry I said Kathy when I meant Carol about the plumbing problems this morning. It seems we are all in agreement about anchovies. I think in Europe that is the purpose of pizza. They think we are weird. It's not about the cheese there. :)

Today was weird. I visited, with one of my friends while Marti and the other accompanied an elderly man we've all become fond of to the hospital. It's the boyfriend of a client Marti worked for. Seems weird to say 90 year olds are boyfriend and girlfriend, but oh well! Anyway, he was sick a few days. He's ok now, just a UTI it turns out and he wasn't eating.

Kate I am saying prayers.

Pony, I watch Joyce Meyers on the computer, so I get the TV church.

Lisa, I'm glad you had a nice time.

Good nite everyone. I'm so tired I'm dizzy. :grouphug:

According to my book and another progam the sweet potaotes should be albout 60 grams of carbs with 7 grams of fiber = 53 total. I would use sugar free maple syrup if you have it instead of the molassas, although 18 more carbs divided by how ever many servings you have is not a lot. It is pure sugar, though. Some sugar free vanilla syrup would be fine, too. I don't know if you have access to any of these items or not.

We love Diane's pumpkin pie recipe - you could probably just use that and put in the yams instead. There is a lot of fat with the butter and cream cheese added to your pie, but it does look really good.

1 and 1/2 cup of pumpkin is 27 carbs with 15 grams of fiber equaling 12 carbs total!!! There is a definite difference in taste, though!!!

Does this help???

Nell: I hope you had fun with your new friends today!

Carol: It is so kind of you to help your friends with their child. What a gift!

We worked in the yard for 7 hours and took a hot tub before dark. It was wonderful. Do you think it's possible I could feel better after one day on Vitamin D???? I don't know how much I should take. The article says 2000 IU minimum, but not much more than that if you aren't being tested and monitored. I took that much yesterday and today. Today I feel fantastic in spirit. Yes, I spent the day outside, but the difference was today I felt doing it. Yippee!

Lisa, if you had a severe deficiency in vitamin D that was causing you to have symptoms with even a little less sunlight, I think two days of supplementation could make that big of a difference. It will continue to help. Vitamin D deficiency can affect many bodily functions, a lot of which they are just discovering now.

Good Morning! Wow, am I awake before Kathy? Impossible I think!! The sun is shining on yet another gorgeous morning...our sunset last night was so amazing I had to run out and take pictures!!

Jocelyn - I think Sams and Costco usually have different stuff...I had both back up north, and it seemed that Costco had more food items...our Sams here has more of the electronics, appliances, etc and less food...I did find the Torani sugar free syrups at my WalMart, now that they have completed their re-model they seem to have more selection for me! They dont have all the myriad of flavors as the Davinci though...just got the vanilla, chocolate and raspberry, but having those has opened up a bunch of different options I didnt have before!! But it will be worth the trip to Sams as it isnt out of my way at all, just to see if I can find that Greek yogurt. I think I am going to stick with Diane's pie recipe for Thanksgiving....the sweet potato one sounds really good too, though Carol!

Nell - I am praying for great results from your trip to Tampa...please tell Marti we are praying, hoping and crossing our fingers too! Hope you had a good time at the BBQ too, hopefully you did and thats what made you so tired!

The Bocelli CD sounds great, but it would have to kick my TransSiberian Orchestra out of the CD player!! I listen to them almost non-stop through out the holidays!

Want an even bigger shock? Guess who else is up?

Its a good thing Im not there...Marti would be in the car with a big forehead knot by now!! Sorry, try the guilt trip, always worked for me!

:wizard: heres a wizard to cast a wake-up spell...sorry, but Im running out of ideas! Call me tonite if you want...I'll be heading to the gym by about 10:20...

I am anxious to see if the good vibe continues! I have SAD really bad so I am very grateful to Carol for this information. I'll keep you posted on the progress. Thanks Nell, for the feedback on this. Since it is so readily used by the body it seems it could make an impact quickly.:goodvibes

Good morning to all my beautiful MM warrior ladies! Sorry I have been gone for so long. I have a few pics from my wedding posted on my Facebook page and I also have a photobucket account as well that I will post in a few. I hope everyone is doing well. I have decided to take a break from MM for the holidays. That being said, I will still eat smart and not overdo things. I am just suspending counting carbs. I will go back to Step 1 after New Year and start again. Anyway, I will check in when I can and when work is slow. I hope all of y'all have a wonderful day.

tom k.

Robin: I have Bocelli on my ipod - just about everything he's ever recorded. Tom had a direct line installed in my car for my ipod. We love it especially on road trips. Our son helped us with the cords to put connect our ipods to the receiver in the house. It's fun to get up to speed with the kids' technology! We have speakers in the dining room so I can play holiday music for dinner. Love it!

I have a HUGE Christmas music collection. I love the season and the music and listen anytime I am feeling down. I am especially fond of Josh Groban's "O, Holy Night". That just about brings me to tears.

Jocelyn,
Another question on the sweet potato - pumpkin dilemma for me. We can have sweet potatoes on Step 2 but not pumpkin. Does anyone know why? You said that the sweet potato would have 60 gr carbs and the pumpkin only 27. It would seem that the pumpkin would be more appropriate for step 2 but that's not how it is. I went with the sweet potatoes because they were legal on this step and the pumpkin not. Now I'm in a quandary
I haven't been able to find any sugar free maple syrup that doesn't have sugar alcohols in it. Our WalMart is just one of those small ones that doesn't carry a lot of food. I guess I could try Smart and Final as they carry a large selection of the Torani syrups and probably have the maple. Duh...don't know why I didn't think of this before. Another "senior moment".

Nell, Hope you were able to get Marti to his appt and that it went well. I don't know what it was for and I'm sure you told us but I just don't remember. Hope it worked out.

Robin, Nice that you woke up to sunny skies again. It sounds like it puts a smile on your face. Sorry Barb, but I couldn't live in the Pacific Northwest where it rains all the time. My son lived with my sister in Portland, Oregon while he was going to grad school. He said it rains so much up there that they have about a hundred ways to say "it's going to rain" because it gets so boring to say the same thing day after day. My sister is looking to sell her house there and move back to the sunshine.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day
Carol
