MM Warriors Part Deux (As of October 27)

Barb: You've had some terrific insights lately. We're sure glad you are back.

Robin: I hope you feel less bloated soon. I've lost one size also, but it looks like more somehow and one size in 3 - 4 months means 3 - 4 sizes in a year! That's about all we need, right? Slow and steady as Nell says. We're getting better every day! Love you!

Hellacious day today! First day back at work and all the nutsos came out to play! Then I got home and the power went out just before I started dinner. Luckily we have a gas stove so I could do dinner on the stovetop. Dinner by candlelight, and no it wasn't romantic

Diane - I'm thinking about you and your job situation. I have always believed that things happen for a reason. I always tell my kids when something bad happens, you will soon be glad it happened, because you ended up in a better place because of it. Hang in there, the perfect job will happen for you.

Pony, you've been back on step2 for a week? What is it that you are having everyday that you didn't before? If your bloating doesn't go down, I'd be looking at food sensitivities. Usually dairy, eggs and wheat. Are your new protein shakes fairly new to your diet? Are they made with whey protein? I know I found out I was highly sensitive to dairy and eggs and never knew it because I was always bloated  Just a thought.

Nell, I'm glad you are safe and out of the hurricanes path

Barb, what do you do for work? Do I already know this and forgot maybe? I'm curious what variety of nut your dealing with. :)

Sorry about your electric. At least you had a gas stove to finish cooking. I hope your second day back goes a lot better!

Lisa, do you put fish in your olive tampenade? I just looked up what it was and it sounds good but I don't usually care for fish. I'm 1/4 Greek, so I really should learn to like it.

Lisa, you are so right! I've lost a satisfactory number of pounds but still less than 2 sizes and it looks like more :confused3 But 3-4 sizes in a year will be awesome :lovestruc

I wish I could hang out longer tonight but I have to be at work at 6:45 tomorrow  so I'm off to bed. I'll check in tomorrow from work when I get a minute. Nite all

I found this on a medical question website, and thought it might help. Most of it probably doesn't apply, but since we all get the bloated feeling every now and then it probably won't hurt.

There could be many reasons why you feel bloated and so it’s difficult to give you specific advice. I’d start by making sure that you’re not frequently constipated as this is one of the most common causes of bloating and discomfort. If constipation is a problem, gradually increase the amount of fibre-rich foods you eat such as fruit, veg, wholegrain cereals and bread, wholewheat pasta, brown rice and beans. These high-fibre foods also have the added benefit of preventing hunger from kicking in, which is important if you want to lose weight. And always drink up to eight glasses of water a day, as a lack of fluid can make constipation worse, especially if you’re eating lots of fibre. You’ll find more about constipation and how to prevent it by clicking on: Related Question

Some foods are also known to cause bloating so you might want to eat fewer of these. Typical culprits include beans, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, sprouts, onions and garlic – however, remember these are good sources of fibre and you should eat five portions of fruit and veg a day.

Swallowing too much air can also give you a bloated tummy and surprisingly, there are several habits that can result in this. Simple things such as talking while eating, using a straw or sports bottle, chewing gum, eating when you’re on the move, drinking from a water fountain and eating when you’re upset are all common culprits so try and eliminate as many of these things as possible.

You may also find it helpful to cut out fizzy drinks, including sparkling water. Many slimmers fill up on these types of drinks, but the gas they contain simply ends up in your stomach. It’s also worthwhile avoiding too many ‘diet’, ‘sugar-free’ or ‘low-carb’ products that contain sorbitol, mannitol or maltitol. These sweeteners, which are used in place of sugar, have a laxative effect which can leave you feeling uncomfortable and full of wind.

Some people blame bloating on an intolerance to a certain food such as wheat or dairy products. However, food intolerances are notoriously difficult to diagnose as the symptoms can be so wide ranging, including everything from bloating, fluid retention, headaches and tiredness to constipation and diarrhoea. If you really think you might have an intolerance I suggest you keep a food and symptoms diary to see if there’s any pattern and then see your GP for a proper diagnosis.

Irritable bowel syndrome is also often associated with bloating. Generally a healthy diet will help you lose weight and keep the symptoms of IBS at bay. But again, if you think this is a problem, you should see your GP.

Finally you could try drinking chamomile or peppermint tea. It might not be your usual cuppa but drinks like these are good for the digestive system and can help to ease that bloaty feeling.

Night Barb! Sweet Dreams! :grouphug:

No, I just bought the black olive tamenade at a deli. It's wonderful, but didn't know there could be fish??

I manage a small non-profit that contracts to the prosecutor's office to supervise a pre-trial diversion program for first time felony defendants. We don't do any violent crimes, just property crimes. It keeps the defendant out of jail and if they do everything they're supposed to: victim restitution, community service, pay court costs, etc, they can get the charge dismissed in a year. Trouble is a lot of these folks are struggling just to make it day to day so we also have to help with finding jobs, healthcare, chemical dependancy counseling, housing etc etc..The nutsos are the ones who need they're hands held every minute of every day and can't seem to get it that they need to take responsibility for their own success. I can't do it all :headache:

Back from the gym, took it a bit easier on myself tonite...only 35 minutes on the treadmill and then my weight circuit...I think i need to change it up sometimes instead of always thinking MORE MORE MORE will be better! GEEZ, that type A personality kicking in again!:rolleyes1

Lisa - THANKS, I needed that! It all sounds so great when you say it like that!! I guess you are right, 3-4 sizes in a year is definitely all I need!! I just hope I start to see some losses like you have after week 5 or so kicks in...just having a down kinda day, so thanks for lifting me back up...Love you too!:)

Nell - I dont know about you and Lisa sometimes...Kate too...that just sounds AWFUL to me!! yuk, olives and fish mushed up on crackers...:scared1: you are probably right about the muscle -building...I KNOW that muscle weighs more, so that never bothered me as far as the scale reading...and I have always had big upper arms due to all the lifting...as usual I just want to see things happen FASTER!!...Ugh, Pony has no patience at all sometimes...but, hey, I know it will all happen eventually!

Barb - Thanks, I know step 2 takes some time to kick in, and you're right, I have only just started week 2 today...not eating anything different, other than the 11-20...just sticking with crackers, yogurt, legal bread, and some Atkins bars...My Shakeology IS made with whey protein, but that has never bothered me in the past...I had the bloated feeling last time I started step 2, so maybe thats all this is...we shall see! Im trying to drink a little extra water, and not worry about it! I'm telling you though, I could very easily have a great big GIANT Starbucks Caramel Macchiato right now and be VERY HAPPY!! Not really, since I know how rotten I would feel later! :drinking1 This is me having another water instead and looking forward to my decaf with my mocha splenda in the morning!! Sorry about your power loss and your Nutcases at work... I swear some days I think every NUT out there has a sudden urge to call Nationwide and let loose with their craziness!

Melanie - My big clothes arent going to be worth anything either...they will probably all go in a ceremonial burning pile!!

Nite Barb!

Interesting article Nell...I had to laugh, since broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, onions and garlic are ALWAYS in my menu!! And of COURSE it would be that darn chamomile tea that helps ease bloating...YUK YUK YUK! I think the peppermint tea might be a good idea though, I will look for it tomorrow...I could always add the disgusting green tea to it and maybe kill two birds with one stone!!

Im off to bed too, day off tomorrow so I intend to be quite lazy and catch a couple extra hours after I get up for my 8:30 feeding!! NITE ALL!

No, I just bought the black olive tamenade at a deli. It's wonderful, but didn't know there could be fish??

Just sardines. Nothing really bad. But I wasn't sure if that was in all of them. I'd like to try it if I can get it at the deli.

I think I need to hit the hay also. I hate to leave you Lisa, and Jocelyn hasn't come on yet. I'm really sleepy tonight though. Maybe I'll have a more relaxing sleep tonight. Last night I had funky stressful dreams. I'm grateful to be able to work out whatever I needed to in my sleep though. Nite everyone! :grouphug:

Kathy, you might try some of those firm molded inserts that cover about 3/4 of the bottom of your foot. Put them inside your sneakers. I love mine and they seem to really help. They are about $30 at the sporting goods store. I get that about FB, but I think Laura has a sub-group. I wouldn't want to mix my chats with you all with any of my other friends as I like us being able to be candid about our journey here. JMHO.

I actually understood what she was saying LOL. For once my brain was working ;)
I just didn't know if anyone who was on FB knew they are able to do that. I love it here also, and wouldn't change a thing. This is home, and I love it here.
I will have to look for those insoles. It is mostly the heel of my foot that seems to catch the brunt of the pain when I'm on my feet alot. At least at work I'm able to go barefoot. But I'm thinking this is causing my calves to hurt as well.
There is a place called the good feet store that specializes in insoles I think. It is over in Pittsburgh, but may be well worth the trip. I'll be investigating it for sure. Thanks for the tip!!

Good Morning All!
Thank you all for your kind words and support. Yesterday I was REALLY upset about not getting that job. You're right - everything happens for a reason and something better will come along. Please pray that it comes along soon! :grouphug:
One good thing that amazes me - I didn't turn to food. I had chicken & salad for lunch and made pork chops with zucchini for dinner. I've been snacking on pistachios while watching TV. I like them because they take effort to eat.
It's beautiful today. I'm going for a walk after breakfast.
Talk to you later! :)

Good morning everyone! Hope all is well with you all. Not much going on here. A short day at work today, so I am going to clean up the house a bit when I get home.
Nell, sorry about the D-Ribose being such a small jar. It is kind of pricey, but I keep thinking only another week and I go down to twice a day. I still need to order my other vitamins online today! I keep putting it off. Such a procrastinator some times!
Robin, please don't feel discouraged. I know it's hard not to. But remember all the great things your doing for yourself. Your body is going to thank you for years to come! And look how far you've come already! Just try mixing up your workout a bit. Maybe your body is getting used to "the same old thing."
Ok, off to eat some breakfast, then work. Have a great day everyone!!

Just sardines. Nothing really bad. But I wasn't sure if that was in all of them. I'd like to try it if I can get it at the deli.

It came in a little jar in one of those delis that has all the condiments. I love that place. It's out of town from us or I'd pick some up for you. I'll keep my eyes out. No fish, Robin!

Kathy, the Good Feet store is really expensive. I went to a chiropractor who said she could get those things made for me but to try the ones on the shelf at REI first before I spent all that money. Same story with my Dad. REI is online if you don't have one near.

I wrote Diane to ask if I could use pomegranate seeds. Yes 2 T = 5 carbs! Cool! I love them on cottage cheese and in my winter 'company' salads. Each serving of a spinach salad would only have a few.

I took the opportunity to cliarify with her the placement of 11-20's when you're not sure about what time a meal will be. Her respose was very interesting:

You are better off erring by putting an extra 11-20 in between meals and finding out that meals are within 5 hours than leaving the 11-20 gram liver dam out and allowing meals to exceed the 5 hour mark.

Validates our afternoon snacktime at around 3. That's a relief!
