MLK weekend or weekend after?

We are going on a cruise MLK week. We are thinking about Universal Fri-Sun either before or after cruise.

Are there typically APH rates for hotels at this time of year? I'm thinking weekend after MLK will be slower and may be able to save $$$ and stay offsite.

think mlk is the 18th next year/monday.
if you are off the cruise and talking about doing the darkside that weekend of fri the 23rd, book your room early.
the harry potter convention will be the end of january but many book a room days prior so they can enjoy the parks before their room/package begins.

year before last i missed out on the ap rates for january.
they were released and gone quickly.

After..MLK weekend is busy.APH rates were hard to come by when we checked last year and even when they did release them, they disappeared fast. Keep in mind the week after is probably the HP convention and that books up rooms fast
