Based upon my school schedule it looks like we will be heading down to WDW the Thurs. afternoon right before MLK weekend. The 13th-19th. We were there last year the week of Christmas and I have to say....it was CROWDED. I could not believe the lines to Dumbo Christmas morning:-) So, I have seen what I think is pretty busy at WDW. Is MLK weekend anything compared to the crowds the week of Christmas?

Thank you

I've never been to WDW Christmas week, but have done MLK weekend. It was busy, esp. for Value season hours, but I'm sure it's nothing like Christmas week.
One thing to be aware of, Inauguration happens during MLK week & I've heard that this may increase crowd size, as many government employees will have extra time off that week.
For that reason, we chose not to go this MLK weekend as originally planned.

But, if you survived Christmas week, I think you could probably survive anything! :p

I will be there that weekend also. I am there for the National Home Builders convention that will be in Orlando the week before. I am hoping that all conventioners will go the week before the convention since it starts on a thursday.

It's going to be busy over the actual weekend, no doubt about it. However, I honestly don't think it's going to compare to Christmas week crowds.

Don't forget to pack accordingly too--- January can get cold in Florida.

I cant even imagine the crowds at Christmas time, but let me just say that I thought the MLK crowds this year to be HORRIBLE!!!! We picked MLK this past January becaused the kids missed some school during our October trip to WDW. Our school had a long weekend over MLK and I thought we could go then and miss 2 days less of school. We go every January and are used to NO crowds. I thought it would get crowded sat and sun. and start to thin out on Monday. Well, I didnt see any crowd thinning until Wednesday, and we left on Friday... So we had 2 days of no crowds or lines. I will never ever go again over MLK weekend. There was so much we didnt get to do or see due to the crowds. My DH wanted to come home on Friday ( booo booo booo) so we didnt have that 2nd weekend like we usually do. Even using the fast passes didnt work that great. The return times were sometimes 3 hours later, and we'd be on the complete other side of the park from where the ride was. If you can, avoid MLK weekend. After the crowds at Christmas, you will be glad you did. We love going in January!!! Just not MLK weekend!

Have to agree with AimeeM. We were there this year for MLK weekend. We had gone down for hte marathon the week before and the crowds were great. Very light with most everything a walk-on. Then on Saturday of MLK weekend it was Horrible. We literally got stuck in Fantasyland - I mean we could not move for 15 - 20 minutes. So if that is the only time you can go, I would avoid MK that weekend and try it during the following week.

Good Luck.

Our family has been for the past three MLK weekends. We have never had a problem. We do the MK on Fri. which has always worked out great. We alternate between the other three parks on Sat. & Sun. We have never gone to a park on Mon. but have gone to Downtown instead. I would never brave the MK on Sat. at any time!
