We have not done this before and I was wondering what are appropriate ages for this? I will have two boys ages 7 and 2. Is this area safe/appropriate for the two year old? I'm thinking not but I would love some insight into this area. About much time should i allow for this, an hour round trip? Is there a better time of day to do this? It looks fun for my seven year old, but am thinking little brother might be better off with a ride on the railroad. Any insight welcome, thanks. We are planning to do the boneyard at ak as well, thought this looked interesting.

I think Tom Sawyer Island would be great for both ages. I just took my son at age 3 and he LOVED it, but I'm sure he would have loved it at 2 also because it's just a great place to run around. There are some "caves" that he would probably find scary, but there is a fort with little animal scenes, a playground set up like a pirate ship, and the flour mill (if the construction on it is done--it was closed in November). I would plan on 30-45 minutes--an older kid could spend awhile there but the 2 year old may limit you somewhat. The little raft ride back and forth takes just a few minutes and goes back and forth frequently so there isn't a ton of waiting. I love TSI and I almost never miss it!

I took my DS three times before he was 2 (14, 19, and 21 months) and he loved it. He liked the caves and the bridges, watching the riverboat go by, climbing around the fort, the little playground, and just playing in the dirt and puddles. It is a wonderful place for a break: lots of shade, not too crowded, and space for little ones to run around without (too much) fear of them being trampled. It has shorter operating hours, like 10-5 instead of all day, so make sure you check. We usually spend about an hour in the afternoon and take a snack with us.

We just did Tom Sawyer this past December. Hardly anyone on the island. My kids loved it (had to do the barrel bridge multiple times:goodvibes). My youngest is 3yo and he did fine. We were there about an hour also.

I'm 52 and find Tom Sawyer's Island a nice break in the otherwise crazed park I call Frantic Kingdom :) When I'm on the island, I see kids of all ages loving the ability to have fun *their* way. I love seeing the kids using their imaginations. I think 2 is not too young for the Island and I would recommend it for a time when the youngest is getting the wiggles and wants to run around. Although even the raft ride over there could be exciting for him.
