What’s MK like the afternoon of Boo Bash? We plan to do a couple things at HS in the morning, then go to MK for the afternoon and evening.

We don’t have Boo Bash tickets because we can’t stay up that late. 🤣

Are the parks typically busier the afternoons before Boo Bash vs non event evenings?
I think we will leave around 8 or 8:30. We could change our plans and visit MK on a non event day but would rather not if it doesn’t make a difference.
thank you.

We were there on Tuesday Aug 31. We arrived at the MK around 4pm. It felt crowded and kept getting more and more so. We left around 7pm, and the amount of people streaming down Main Street on their way in felt like the old days, and I don't mean that in a happy nostalgic way.

Based on our experience that day, we plan to avoid the MK on Boo Bash days, at least in the afternoon/evening.

thank you! Our other option is MK on a Saturday. Can’t decide if a Friday evening with Boo Bash or a Saturday without is better. I know Saturday MK is typically a busier day.

Also pretty important - this is September I’m asking about. 🤣

Ok, based on 1) my very limited personal experience, and 2) the Touring Plans crowd calendar, I would choose the Saturday.

Every Friday in September has a Boo Bash, and none of the Saturdays do. All of the Saturdays are listed as 1s on the crowd calendar, and all of the Fridays are 2s. I know that doesn't seem like a big deal, but in the past week I've been to the MK on days that were 1 and days that were 2, and I could actually feel the difference in how many people are in the walkways.

The situation I described with (what felt like) huge swarms of people streaming in for the Boo Bash was on a 2 crowd level day. Hard to explain, but in the current climate, it seems to be a noticeably unpleasant difference.

Well, remember that probably a lot of the people streaming in were there for fireworks, not just boo bash. HEA was always popular, but it seemed even more crowded than we remember on our August trip, which I attribute to a combination of (1) lack of other quality evening entertainment at WDW at present (I miss you, Fantasmic!) and (2) the fact this is the last month to see the show before it retires.

There is a probably a bump in crowds on boo bash evenings for sure, but since you plan to leave at 8pm, with Boo Bash guests not being allowed in until 7pm, it shouldn't really affect you much.

I was there on 8/27 (Friday) and during the day it was nearly a ghost town, but once 7pm came, it became packed, quite fast. There were people everywhere camped out for fireworks (double the number from our non Boo Bash night at the MK). I would reverse your plan, go to MK first then DHS, unless the boarding group for RoR is important. Though you still might be able to get a boarding group after 2pm. Groups were available until almost close both days we were at DHS (our trip was 8/18 - 8/28).

We were there Aug 31 too, we were ticket holders and arrived at 7. Between 7-9pm was the most crowded I had seen any park all trip. Of course the crowds are very low right now so we were pretty spoiled. If I had it to do over, I would've just arrived at 9:30pm and skipped that mess!

Exactly! You arrived right when we decided we'd had enough and were heading out the gate to go to Epcot.

It really did not get a whole lot better until closer to 11pm. Day crowds are so low, that in comparison Boo Bash crowds felt worse. Strictly talking about walkways etc not ride wait times.

Thanks for all the tips, we are going to switch things around and do MK in the morning and head over to HS for the evening. Fingers crossed crowds are low and maybe we can still get a pass for Rise of the Resistance. If not, maybe we will try the following morning.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you won't be able to get a BG for Rise if you start at MK that morning - Studios has to be your reserved park for the day or you won't be allowed to try.

No, I'm so sorry, that's not correct. Here's a quote from the official Rise BG thread, from moderator @lovethattink -

There was an update where people were able to get a bg with another park reservation then hopping. It was when park capacity was very low recently. Haven’t seen any updates more recent though. So I wouldn’t count on it. But it can happen.

We will just cross our fingers that this works for us!
