You have to look at the park hours for that day, as EMH can be early or late hours, and it can be at any of the 4 parks. If there are early EMH at MK, then you treat the EMH as RD (if you are staying in a Disney hotel). So, if MK normally opens at 9, and EMH starts at 8, then you'd want to be there around 7:30. Is that what you are asking?
I think since the OP talks about never having "seen" RD, I'm thinking that she's talking about the RD show, which I believe takes place 20 minutes before park opening.
Yes, OP, I assume you're talking about the MK "Welcome Show" that is peformed just before the real "rope drop." The Welcome Show starts approximately 20 mins before park opening. This applies to both a regular opening AND a EMH opening. Said another way, if you're going on a morning with AM Extra Magic Hours, yes, the Welcome Show will run approx 20 mins before the EMH park opening time.
For welcome show, it's only done one time a day and usually starts 20 min prior to park opening time
-EMH morning: done at the beginning of EMH
-Regular opening: done at regular time
-EMM (ticketed event): done at regular park opening time, not done for EMM guests.
