MK 12-2AM Magic Hours - How are the Crowds?

I'll be at MK on 12/16 and just noticed they added Magic Hours from 12-2AM. This is a day my family is getting up late, and could conceivably stay until 2AM. Just a couple questions:

1) How should I expect the crowds to be during EMHs this late?

2) Just a general question, how do EMHs work at the end of a day after park closing? How does Disney differentiate between onsite and offsite guests?

Thanks!

At 12:00+all rides should only be open to guests that scan a magic band showing a valid resort stay. (They often only ask for 1 scan per family)

But any guest can enter a line until 11:59pm so it's not like lines magically disappear. Late EMH are generally best during the 2nd hour. Normal guests can still walk around and shop, they are not ushered out like non-MVMCP party guests.

Since there are no FP+ issued for EMH, lines do flow better than during normal park hours.

We did the 12-2AM EMH in October 2014. Tomorrowland was VERY crowded from midnight-1 or so. Even the Peoplemover had a massive line! We sat back and people-watched a bit. Around 1, the crowds thinned significantly and we almost had Space Mountain to ourselves. Rode it over and over again with no wait until we were sick. It was a lot of fun and I'm making sure we'll be there for EMH night this next October!

Just make sure you plan well for the day after. If you stay until 2 am, it will most likely be 3 am or later before you're in bed. Getting up for a 9 am rope drop the next day would be horrendous for my family in that situation.

we were there last week with emh being til 1am, i thought it was great, got on a lot of rides with little to no wait, had some areas to ourselves even. it was magical

Last October we waited 30 minutes for 7DMT at 12:45am. Walked right on Soace Mountain around 1:15

We've seen it both ways, some with insane lines, some with the whole place to yourself. We were just there last sept and it was insane but it was also labor day weekend after a week of no crowds and there was a lot of people doing a last minute trip that were from areas school didn't start yet.

My son and I did those hours last year during that same week. I think we made it until 1:30 or so because we had gone all day but it was great!! I was a little surprised at how many people were still there. 7DMT still had a looong standby line, for example, but for the most part we waited hardly anytime for other attractions and crowds were all ready ramping up for Christmas. : )
