My family and I are going to Disney this August for the fourth time. We were checking out some of the new rides using various sources and it seems that everytime we heard anyone talk about the new Mission Space ride in Epcot, barf or vomit tended to be in the same sentence. We have relatively weak stomachs for motion stimulators (except Star Tours for whatever reason), would anyone who has ridden it please tell me their thoughts???

Thanks!!!!! :earboy2:

I rode Mission Space the last time I went in October 2003 and I really didn't enjoy the ride much at all, it left me with a queasy spinning feeling, not enjoyable by any means and I didn't think that the ride was even that great. And just to let you know, star tours doesn't even affect me in the least if that is any help to you. None of the rides affect me at WDW except for mission space, and I have ridden everything except Big Thunder which was closed for rehab when I was there. Hope this helps!

I rode with some friends last weekend and we did just fine. My stomach felt worse after doing the teacups than Mission Space.

I love thrill rides and although I love all the rides at Disney, I find them to be on the tame side. But Mission Space is the one ride I will never ride again, I discovered just how claustrophobic I really am.

Spent most of the ride with my eyes closed trying to pretend I wasn't really in such a close space. When I did open my eyes I was looking for any kind of release button that would propel me out of there, didn't find one though :sad2:

I love this ride. It is the best at WDW IMHO. I can ride it 10 times in a row and be fine. My brother on the other hand can ride it once and be messed up for a couple of hours. I have not seen any throw up yet. Try it you may like it.

I also love Mission Space. I get queasy on the Teacups too, but never have any problems out of MS. I think you need to try it at least once, because it affects different people in different ways. IMO it's a wonderful ride!

I agree with TCDICK, it affects different people differently. I personally LOVE this ride. I was with at party of 11 last summer and we all rode and out of 11, 2 got the queasy feeling. One of them had the feeling with him for a couple of hours, the other one was fine after a couple of minutes, the rest of the group went right back on line and rode again. It is definitely something to try at least once. I found that following directions of keeping your focus on the screen is vital. A lot of people said it is very small quarters but I am a Pooh sized woman and I have felt more claustophobic in a small plane than in this ride. Try it you may like it. JMHO. HTH. :cool1:

For me, the hype was much worse than the ride. I had not been feeling well all week of our vacation and left MS for the last possible moment just in case..........well, I was fine and didn't see what all the fuss was about (in terms of how great a ride this is). It's kind of cool, but not to die for....

If you are concerned about your family, then don't go on the ride. (I've also wondered about taking the kids on) It's not worth feeling ill over because in all honesty, there are other experiences at Disney which top MS in a heartbeat.

Rode it last month with my DS 4 - We both LOVED IT. Neither of us are prone to motion sickness, but we made sure we followed the directions CLOSELY - ie head back, look stright ahead, keep eyes open, etc. No problems to speak of. Make sure you do that (and maybe take something for motion sickness), and you should be fine.

I HATED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :headache:

I cant explain it, cause I didnt pay attention to the ride, because I had my eyes closed the whole time. I MEAN THE WHOLE TIME! I could of cared less about being the flight person or whatever. I just hated it.
And when I got off, my tummy felt TERRIBLE. Felt like I was gonna spew chunks all over Epcot.

YUCK. 2 THUMBS DOWN!

I think there is a huge amount of people who get terrified before even getting on it, and that probably aids in making people ill. NOT that some people don't get ill on it regardless, just saying that the mind is a powerful thing and when you're told to expect something, it helps aid in creating that. Does that make sense? There's a huge amount of hype and fear on these boards in regards to it.

I've ridden it several times, never had a problem. It's a cool effect; matter of fact, I rode it the first time during soft openings before I read up on it and didn't even know we were spinning to get the effect until after the fact - it doesn't feel like spinning like the teacups, and is not really jerky like Dinosaur or something. Its a unique feeling, one that's hard to describe.

No one can really tell you if you're going to react poorly to it, you just have to chance it. There are antinausea meds that people have taken to help. I think it's a technologically advanced ride, and very neat.

My sister and I were both VERY leary of going on it because of all the stuff we had read but after we got off, it was like "That's It?", that's what all the hype was about? We both did not experience any nausea or any queasiness.
I say, go for it!!, you'll love it, just follow the instructions like they tell you.

Everyone is different - if youre in the majority the ride will be fun for you... follow instructions *dont close your ey"es* (that's the biggest no-no) and give it a try. :wizard: (We need a MS "smilie")

It's great! Definitly a must-see. I ride it every time I go to WDW!

Yea, keep your eyes OPEN! I kept mine closed regardless of the instructions cause I just didnt wanna be on it in the first place (but I comprimised for my hubby  ). I didnt like the launch and thats when I closed them. But I know I wouldnt of been that queasy if I'd of followed instructions.

BUT I STILL HATED IT! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Due to the motion sickness warning, I skipped the attraction the first time I had the opportunity in Jan 2004. We went back for a quick trip in Dec. 2004, and we each promised to try an attraction that we'd bypassed before. Since my husband had done Mission Space and enjoyed it, I decided to try it. Everyone in line kept talking about how great it was, and to just follow the instructions (keep eyes open, look straight ahead, etc). I did, and it was terrible. I am glad that I tried it, so that I don't have to keep wondering if I'm missing out on something. BUT.....I had a terrible headache and nausea for 2-3 hours after it was over. The only thing that got me thru the experience was counting backward in my head, realizing that most Disney rides only last a few minutes!! Hope this helps! PS, I'm able to enjoy Star Tours without any problems also!

This was one of the worst rides I have ever been on. I would expect a ride like this to be at Islands of Adventure and not a Disney theme park. I'm a big thrill seeker and this ride was too much for me. I was about 3 seconds away from emptying my lunch all over myself. :sad2:

I thought that the ride was great. I went with my fiance and best friend last May, and we all enjoyed it. Following the directions is crutial though, as you will realize once you try to turn your head or close your eyes. My friend is claustrophobic, and didn't enjoy the small space so probably wouldn't do it again, but still thought it was great. However, if you don't like trill rides, you will most likely be dissappointed.

I thought the ride was great all except for the landing sequence, when the ride was slowing down from the spinning. I felt a little sick, but after a few minutes i was fine. I also believe that having them announceing that those who are prone to motion sickness should avoid this ride once every minute does get into your head and makes you start to think about it. Chances are I'll do it again the next time I'm at Epcot, and hopefully my experience will be great.
