what about this ride makes you sick??? i chickened out last time but plan to pull em up/ man up(or woman up) and take a whack this trip.

is it the spinning or does it utilize motion sim stuff like body wars etc.(by the way , more than one or two motion sims make me ill)

roller coasters and drop rides i can do all day til i drop.

I did not get sick, nor did my husband or 10 year old son. To tell you the truth, my husband and I were trying hard to feel the spin and never did.

We found it very intense and lots of fun.

I didn't get sick either. I was only slightly dizzy getting off the first time and had no ill effects the other 3 times.

We went on Mission Space last year when it first opened. The CM told us to keep our eyes open and on the screen. If you close your eyes, he said, your brain realizes that you are spinning. If you keep your eyes on the screen, your brain will be "tricked" into believing that you are experiencing what is happening on the screen. If you close your eyes or look around, you very well may get sick. Also, keep your head back. If you do all of this (and I know it seems like alot) you should be alright.

Maybe it is just me then. I went last Nov. with my DH, DS6 and DS5. They all seemed fine, but I was definately feeling less than peachy. Now, I know that I am highly sensitive to motion sickness. I got sick snorkeling and kayaking. :crazy2:

I followed the CM's instructions and I never closed my eyes and I stayed focused on the screen. The effects are amazing and it is a pretty cool ride, I just think that I will probably "sit it out" on our next trip.

I think it all just depends on your sensitivity level. BTW, my kids and DH loved it. ;)

My ds(10) has gone on the ride a handful of times. This last time, he decided to turn his head sideways to see what happens. He came off the ride and said he will NEVER do that again. There is a reason they suggest looking forward. I have never gone on the ride, now do I intend to. I am very claustrophobic and know I could not handle the close quarters and safety restraint.

My DH (who gets sick on spinny rides) and I were just talking about M:S and he still insists that he did not feel any spinning. We rode it three times and he had no problem.

detective mickey, Bonine ( or non-drowsy Dramamine) makes us EXTREMELY sleepy and we cannot take it at all. What seemed to help us was ginger capsules. We (mainly my DH) took 1000mg (I think it's measured in mg) twice a day and it seemed to help without any side effects.

MS I've heard them say they are suffering from vertigo which can cause some to have a upset tummy. It did not bother me DW will not do again.::yes:: :wave2:

I get sea sick and sick on motion rides and spinning rides. If I take
pills I usually do okay but this ride almost did me in. I tried keeping my eyes on the screen but this became impossible when
I thought I would be throwing up on eveyone in my capsule. I survived the ride with no clean up needed but I did need a wheel chair. I just thought I would share. good luck!!!!

I never felt as if I was spinning on this ride, but it is definately intense. Definately listen to all the suggestions here about looking straight ahead. My aunt turned her head and closed her eyes when we went on it. She said she could feel the spin when she did this. I felt a little light headed afterward, but I never got sick from it. I havent decided if I am going back on it or not though:confused:

So are they actually spinning you around and around on this thing? I'm scared to death to ride it. I can't do rides that spin. Even the teacups make me sick! LOL I'm so afraid that I'll ruin the day, but I really want to ride it!

Yes the ride actually does spin, although if you keep your eyes on the simulator you don't know that is what you are doing. To me it felt more like a roller coaster. You will know you are spinning and get disoriented if you close your eyes or turn your head though, so if you decide to go on...dont do that!! By the way, in the queueing area (not sure if that is spelled right) they have a video display that shows you how the ride moves, and consistently tells you not to shut your eyes. I thought that they were just hyping up the ride for thrill factor....until i got on and noticed the vomit bags down and to the right. :earseek: i wonder if anyone has ever had to use those!!

the whole ride is connected in the center and the "spaceships" are attached in a circle around the center point. the center point spins in circles so all the "spaceships" rotate in a big circle.

Have you ever seen any astronaut movies? Or the A-1 steak sauce commercial with the janitor trying to get the last drop out of the bottle? thats the basic idea of what they are doing to you.

My DH can't do the teacups either, and Mission Space made him sick. But he turned his head to look at me, and that's when he said he started to feel ill.

It's a hard call to make, I have been on it 6 times and didn't get sick but when I went to disney quest, i got sick on the virtual rides! Go figure!

Maybe you should go on it at night just before you leave the park if you are nervous about getting sick. Just sit back and look straight forward.

Good luck and let us know what happens!

Probably the most important thing is to not look around, just keep your eyes on the screen, and your head pushed back.

Don't take any child with you that you might need to offer assistance to.....because then you will have to look at the child, and WHAM, rough seas ahead. It's every man for himself on this thing...but it is a lot of fun.

For a lot of people, once in a lifetime is plenty, and some people ride it multiple times in a morning. (Are you kidding?) But the theming, the story, the visuals....it's just great!

I did not get the least bit sick or disoriented. As a matter of fact, I got off of the ride wondering what all of the hype was about. I guess everyone's experiences vary greatly, but in my opinion this ride is not that big of a deal. With all of the talk about getting sick I was really expecting more thrills, and was a little let down. JMHO

I am one of the ones who got sick. Although it wasn't as bad as I've gotten on Body Wars I was still left with a queasy feeling and had to sit down for a while. I'm gonna skip it this time around. However, the ride is amazing and I'm glad I tried. The special effects are very cool.

My husband rode it last October. He was so sick, he had to go back to the room and rest. It was a good thing we waited until almost closing for him to ride.

::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

While my child did not need assistance, I did look over at him to make sure he was ok and exactly as Maddle said WHAM - it was over. Boy I was sooooo queezy and my head felt weird. I was EXTREMELY glad we did NOT have to go back to earth or it might have been really over.

It took me a good 3 hours to recover, I sat outside for about 30 minutes and said, don't talk to me, don't touch me, don't look at me. We then walked s l o w l y back and got on a bus to go to the hotel and I laid down for a while.

So when they say DON'T look over - they mean it :teeth:

Once was fine for me ::yes::
