Mission Accomplished~Now A Trip Report~Day 10~A BRIEF CONCLUSION~

YIPPEEE Monica...I love the pic of the boys excited. Aviva was like cool and that was it when I told her the night before. But only 26 more days till we go back.

And can you believe I am still coughing and not sleeping. I am so glad we did get to meet....what a nice family you have!!!

HUGS!

Love the pictures!!! :thumbsup2 That one of the boys all excited is great! And what a cutie patootie Mal is! :goodvibes

As for my TR, I am working on the next installment. Hopefully I will get it done tonight. :)

Whew. Finally I can take off this disguise. I can finally breathe. I felt free and alive. I felt like me again. I just said this yesterday when we were watching the video of our trip. It feels so weird to be able to talk freely about WDW. I stop to think if I have to sensor anything and I don’t. DISNEY! DISNEY! DISNEY! I said it three times for good measure. And because I could.

I feel good!

We head out and catch the shuttle. The boys are just chatter boxes. They are making up their game plans. What rides they have to go on. What rides they think they’ll try. Asking our opinions and making me very happy. Changing their minds 100’s of times. I know how that feels.

The people who were riding the shuttle with us smiled and laughed at my boys. Nanee told them all about the surprise. She does that. Talks to people. All the time. Even when they don’t want to. I’m used to it. Tim still isn’t. They get dropped off at another terminal. First.

We get to the new Northwest Terminal. It’s been around 4 years now give or take a few years, I’m no expert so don’t go quoting me, and it is nice. There’s a very small version of the monorail there. Takes you from one side to the other. Tim takes the kids on it to pass the time.

Disney2006017.jpg

I get myself a star buck’s coffee and pick up some fruit. We share the fruit, not the coffee.

There’s an underground tunnel that goes under the runway connecting Northwest to Delta and Continenta. You get to see a light show of some kind. I’ve been told. Tim took the boys there too. They are so just so excited.

They get some potato cakes from the overpriced McDonald’s and it’s time to board. We have a whole row. I put Mal in between Nanee and I and the boys across from us.

As we are on board I start to smell peanuts. It’s a very strong smell. That means it’s very close. Light bulb goes off. When I booked with northwest I inquired about my sons allergies and what they’re procedures are. The responses I get are pretty typical. They can’t guarantee a peanut free flight because of what passengers bring on the plane. I get that. They will make a note in the manifest that there is a passenger with a peanut allergy on board. The boarding stewards are to make an announcement and ask the passengers about to board, to not consume any food containing peanuts while on the flight. Ok. That’s nice. I understand that won’t be a guarantee either, but at least it puts out an awareness.

They did no such thing. So I point it out to Tim who was sitting with the boys. The man in front is inhaling them and not very careful. The girls behind them are eating peanut butter crackers. Those make the messiest crumbs. I get tense. I’m just worried. What can you do up in the air, with only 2 epi’s? Not a whole lot. So I pray.

Then the stewards start selling their snacks and they have peanuts. So I was lied to. I am just very thankful my son doesn’t seem to be smell sensitive. Just ingestion. And that’s not a pretty sight or experience. Otherwise we’d be doomed to drive to Disney every time.

Disney2006021.jpg

Disney2006022.jpg

The flight was fine. 2 hours and a few minutes. Nothing special. Mal’s first plane ride and it didn’t phase her one bit. We did have to be de iced. That was cool.

You drive up to these huge mechanical arms that blast something at the plane and you can’t see a single thing. It’s like you are in a very thick fog. They have one on each side of the plane.

Ya, I don’t get out much. Get your laughs over with.

I think it put us back 30 minutes. We made most of that up in the air. Don’t cha just love that! No speed limit signs up there. Punch it pilot, I’m in a big hurry to see a mouse and a castle!

The landing for me was horrible. I am an ok flyer. Just hate to take off landing. As long as there’s no turbulence, I’m a happy camper. I wear those pressure point wrist bands. I’m not sure they help, but if I think they do, then they do. It’s all mental with me. They did help because I didn’t actually use the barf bag. I just held it for a few minutes. Closely.

We land, get our luggage, yep, sorry Magical Express, maybe next time, and hop on the shuttle to pick up the rental car.

Disney2006025.jpg

We walk in and they are laughing at us. Look at all that luggage!

You gotta lotta stuff there mee-ster. Won’t fit in small mini you reserved. You have to upgrade to the big mini.

Suckers!

We pay more and we are off. Just getting us ready for Disney

Car was still wet from the car wash. Plus it was still cool from the last family that just used it.

That’s some production line they got there.

Pull em up, clean em out, wash em up, load em up. Send em off!

Just getting us ready for Disney.

We hit the road and a few tolls later, except the one I drove through that was the scanner by complete accident. I did stop so we could pay the toll. I did. But there was nobody there to except our coins. So if they got us on tape blowing the toll booth, they should also see us trying to be honest. My kids practically had a heart attack and were sure that a cop was coming to get us.

Well we had a stop to make before we actually get to Pop Century. We needed some stuff. Some breakfast type stuff and a cooler for milk. So we went to publix. Nice place.

They actually pushed my cart to my car for me? As a courtesy. What a concept.

I only get that service here when the packer can’t get everything to fit back in my cart and has to use two. Sometimes after they’re done I have to stand there and ask if they are coming with me. Seriously.

I come out with my 5 bags and 2 cases of water and DH is wondering where we are going to put all this. He didn’t say it, but I could tell. I read his body language. I knew it’d be tight, but where there’s a will there’s a way. We figure it out and move on. Squished but mobile.

Disney2006026.jpg

Then we saw this:
Disney2006027.jpg

Then this:
Disney2006030.jpg

And then this:
Disney2006031.jpg

We pull into the check in area. Yes we are here and we are checkin in! Move out of our way we have arrived!
Whoa. That line is long. That’s right. The Magical Express bus beat us back and I was feeling annoyed. Oh well, we are in Disney right?

I tell Tim take the kids to the TV room, I’ll stand in line with my envelope. I waited. Waited some more. Then a lot more. Why do these people have soooo much to talk about? I just want my room. And food. And my DH keeps walking by me and looking at me and he’s running out of things to keep the baby occupied. Please hurry up with your conversations so we can just get to our rooms! I waited a bit more.

That’s ok; some diser’s trip reports conditioned me for this. I’m not gonna name any names, but you all know who you are.

Ah I’m next. I start to rock back and forth. Getting antsy. Yes! My turn!

I give her the spiel. Checking in. Name, both ressie numbers etc. Ask about the special room cleaning. She tells me there’s nothing listed for it. There should be because a CM suggested I do this last month and she made sure it was there and all the times I called back to make changes every CM read all my special notes to me and it was there.

She makes a phone call.

If you want it, it will take 2 more hours for your room.

Buy now Tim is standing next to me. He looks like his team just lost the game in over time. I asked what more would they do. And all they would do is purify the air.

Nope, don’t need it. I’ll inspect it, and if I have a problem I’ll be calling you.

Upon arrival I had 2 packages waiting for me from past guests who are DISers. A collage of things to decorate my window and door. That was a lot of fun. And getting special packages left for you at the front desk makes you look really cool and feel very special.

I didn’t request a room location. Doesn’t bother me where it’s at. I just want a nice clean room. And it was. Before we got there that is.

We head to the car to drive to the 80’s section. Boxes are placed on laps and we do the few minutes drive to the back. Park, open doors and everything explodes out of the car, even children and grandmas.

We are given rooms 7347 and 7348. We are on the third level closest to the parking lot. Works for me. Our room was 20 paces from the elevator. Again, works for me.

Oh, yay! I am loving it! And we are both writing about the same day at the same time. :teeth: I am going shopping tomorrow in Chicago though, so I won't be getting too much writing done. Can't wait to read more of yours though! And I'll try to catch up when I get back.

Ahhh.....flying......I think I might want to fly next time. I have not flown in 18 years....since the honeymoon. Before 9/11. I'm starting to sweat just thinking about it.

I actually downloaded SW Ding on my computer and then there was a crash here in our area in August that killed 4 people we knew and I quit looking at the Dings. But then getting there in 2 hours sure beats 13 in the car. I'll think about it.

I'll be anxious to hear more about the POP. Lots of DISers stay there so hoping to hear more about what you though of it. Great installment...glad you're finally "there". :)

Did you say anything to these people? If I had been one of them, I would certainly have been happy to put away my snack! That's just not something I would even think about, not having kids with allergy issues.

Don't you love driving under the arch?!? Always one of the best parts of the trip for me. It really is like entering another world.

AWESOME trip report! I'm so glad the surprise went off without a hitch. Can't wait for the rest.

We are surprising our three kids in March. We plan to tell them just before we leave. I'll be waiting until the very end of the day to do the big "reveal". My oldest has ADD and I don't want any Concerta left in his system tempering the Whoops! YeHaws! and jumping :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Oh, I feel ya on the Pop checkin line! I waited for an *hour* on my last trip!

Can't wait to hear about the rest! I'm down to 30 days and going nuts here! :teeth:

This report is great. I tried to keep some secrets from my sister about our upcoming trip, but I just wasn't able to really do it. I think that I still have one surprise that she doesn't know about though. I can't wait to read more!

I started to try to get the Man's attention. But Tim stopped me. I have no answer for why. I can't even come up with one. Your hands are tied sometimes. Matt has had only one experience with the reaction. So, don't take it like we don't take it seriously we do. We just know how to handle these situations. I watch Matt like a hawk. I wouldn't let him get himself into any trouble.

I have family that doesn't get it. After 10 years they still don't get it. Last Christmas they made a turkey deep fried in peanut oil. I wanted to leave so bad.

As for the arch, I didn't go back under it until the trip was over. It's that sacred to me.

Hi mouseketeer_mom  It was fun surprising them. But I don't think I'll ever do it again. I love sharing the excitment with them and I missed that this time. The dis saved my sanity and allowed me to pull it off.

Matt uses, it's pronoucned, FO-CA-LIN, and we too see at the end of the day that it's worn off. Right after the reveal he got his meds. On weekends, he likes to go med free. Sometimes.

Hang in there. The last 30 fly right by, as soon as the holidays are over, you'll just have days to go.

Right after 9/11 we flew to Cancun. I was so afraid, but if you keep yourself grounded then they won. I won't let anyone control me.

13 hours is easy. We would almost double that. 24 hours. Flying for 2 hours is not that bad with that perspective.

And it's the ride home thats the killer. Going there you are on a high!

your family knows abut your son's allergies to nuts, and still fried the turkey in PEANUT OIL?!?! holy cow! :confused3
loving your report, esp. the picture of the boys when the surprise "sunk in".
good job, mom :thumbsup2 .
(by the way, you DO realize nebo will now be impossible to live with after your "eye candy" remark? I caught him "preening" in the mirror this morning :rotfl: )
as much as I love our empty nester trips, sometimes I am jealous of you guys with kids to take. can I borrow your kids for a week? ... no need ; on second thought, nebo is kid enough to handle!!!
keep the installments rolling! di

Sorry I just call it like I see it.

Hey, don't tease on taking the kids, I almost had them packed and ready to go!

Side Note:
When you drive under that huge Disney sign and look immediately to your right, that’s where we were.

Our resort and room had the perfect view of the arch. Every morning I got to see it and it was a great site to see. I’ve seen people post that picture and I’ll never get board of it.

It just starts something deep inside you. It says we are here! We are in WDW BABY!!!! It’s just an awesome feeling.

My daughter saw it from our room and just starting squealing in delight. Castle Mumma! Castle! That girl sure loves that castle.

Every morning when we walked to the car we saw that sign and felt that bubbly stir deep within us.
End side note.

Once in our room the kids immediately turned on the Disney channel and we unpacked. Once we felt settled, once we broke the room in, we headed to Down Town Disney.

“Got a map?” Tim asks.

“We don’t need no stinking map! I’m just following the signs.” I reply. That logic really worked for the most part. A little woman’s intuition helps too.

Down Town is just huge! And it being a Friday night, was pretty busy. We got real lucky and snagged the perfect parking space and walked over to Mc Donald’s. This group was hungry. The kids and I grabbed a table, and Tim and Nanee got the food.

Tim sets the trays down and says, “So, when does that dinning plan kick in?”

“Soon baby, real soon!” (well tomorrow actually.)

We eat. This was nothing special, just a McDonald’s and we head out to walk around. The kids were told we are just looking. We never buy on the first day.

Like they are OK with that......

Our first stop is the Lego Store.
Disney2006034.jpg

Zach was in heaven, but I think the crowd did something to him. It was a mad zoo in there with about a 30-45minute wait at the check out line. And there wasn't a fastpass for this. You couldn't move and we were constantly losing each other, so we decided we had enough. Zach was ok with that.

We head over the the Queen of all Disney stores. Cool, star wars stuff. Hey look over there pirate stuff.......

Disney2006036.jpg

This one sang.

This is where my oldest son’s issues become an issue. He is looking and sees so many things that he likes, that it’s all overwhelming for him. He is in a panic, frustrated, it’s hard to deal with his emotions, he’s about to break down and lose it mode. I actually grab a toy he loves, pay for it, and had it shipped to our resort for his birthday gift. But he doesn’t know this.

We get out of that place and just hang out, outside. Far far away from all the toys. We come across a CM who is singing, using puppets, and has a group of families dancing and having a ball. It was fun to watch and gave Matt time to come down.

Then we find the carolers and stop and listen by the huge tree that was decorated with toys and games.

Disney2006039.jpg

The kids saw the fountains and had to go play in them. Go for it I told them and my son was back to himself. Redirection is the best medicine.

Disney2006038.jpg
Disney2006037.jpg

Well, the kids were just getting antsy. 5 Hours in WDW and they still hadn’t been on a ride. Mom what gives they kept sending me these messages. We came upon the train and Malorie’s eyes lite up. So daddy bought them all a ticket, 2 bucks each. And they rode their first ride of the trip.

Disney2006041.jpg
Disney2006043.jpg

That we had to PAY for.

As you can see it cooled down at night. We had on sweatshirts and long pants. But this treand did not continue for the rest of the week.

Disney2006045.jpg

Our first day at a park was tomorrow and I knew I’d be up by 6am, so we headed back to the room so we could get a good night's rest.

Tomorrow he hit MGM Studios.
Disney2006049.jpg

Great job, Monica! DTD is overwhelming....so much STUFF! So cool that you got to be there when all the Christmas stuff was going on. Can't wait to hear about MGM! :)

Ok! YOU ROCK! You are Amped! Whatever that means! :rockband:

I think it was NOT nice of your dd to behave on the flight so nicely! That makes "some" of our dd's look bad! (tantrums are our birth control). She and Norah would be buddies I'm sure!

I think our boys would get along swimingly too...keep that in mind for our skinny-minnie meet!

Yup, that darn Lego store gets my kids hopped up too! I swear they could be there for hours! And spend a truckload of my pin money there too!

You are soooo sweet to let them play in the fountains! I probably would if mine had on their CROCS but the time we spent there, they had on athletic shoes and they take forever to dry.

We'll have to ride that money train next time! How cute your kids are!!!!!!
