**I posted this on the regular resorts board and someone suggested I ask over here so...**

If you miss checking in on the first day of a reservation, will you lose the whole ressie? I rented DVC points from the ************** for a Saturday-Thursday stay and now my mother has decided that she doesn't want to keep the kids all weekend. She wants me to drop them off Sunday afternoon instead. I explained to her that renting DVC points is non-refundable (which I told her when I asked if she would keep them also) but she is not budging. I am kind of panicking right now. What if we can't make it until Sunday evening?

If you are definitely arriving Sunday, I would ask the member to call and cancel Saturday.

If you miss you check-in day, it is normally considered a "no-show" by the resort, the reservation is cancelled, and the members points are lost, as they are considered "spent" on that first day. I agree, you need to have the member call and change the reservation.

I would call the resort (yes, I realize the call will go thru an offsite call-center) and let them know it will be a late arrival and give them your anticipated arrival time. Your villa should then be ready regardless what time you arrive on day 2 of the reservation.

Unless the member you rented from is willing to refund the first day to you, I see no benefit to have them change anything regarding your reservation (and possibly end up with something other than what you expect).

A note will be made on your reservation about the arrival change and you should not need to wait until 4pm for your villa to be ready. I'd just get there as early as possible and enjoy your stay. :)

Have a wonderful trip.

There would be a possible benefit to the member, even if changed within the 30 day window. The points for that day would be refunded, probably in holding status, but it would certainly be a courtesy to let the owner know of the change, even if you've already paid for the points.

Thanks for the advice! I emailed the agent at the company where I rented from and she said that since it is a small date change, the member should be able to call and shift my reservation dates to Sunday check-in with no problem, especially since it is still 7 months away. So hopefully everything will work out okay!

If I was able to arrive before 4pm knowing that my room would be ready and waiting, I'd see no advantage to change the first day of the reservation. If arriving after 4, it would not make a difference to the renter and the member might benefit but why risk ending up with some mishap with the reservation when conveying the change to MS especially if the renter will not benefit in any way.

Unless there is some possibility of a refund, the renter can call the resort a day before and just let them know of the late arrival. There is no need to involve the member if a refund is not an option. We have done this on several occasions and our villa was always available when we arrived the next morning without issue.
