Miss B's Magical Wish Trip Adventure to Atlantica

For obvious reasons, our little family is wandering around in jubilant dazes this past week. We have 8 days until we are in Orlando, celebrating Brooke's MAW trip! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

Still so much to do. I wanted to get a haircut (my hair is super long right now and I'm thinking way too hot for Florida! I want to cut off a good 10 inches and donate it to Angel Hair--a Canadian organization that makes wigs for kids with cancer.) I need to get some proper walking shoes for myself and Avie. I have to pack all those wonderful outfits BigGivers have gifted the girls, I have camera cards to download and batteries to charge....But, to add to the craziness--Miss B started kindegarten on Monday!

She did awesome--she was so excited--almost as much for school as for Disney (but I think Ariel still wins the excitement competition!). She got up without a fuss, got ready so quickly I was left speechless and just couldn't stop smiling all morning long.

Here she is outside the doors to her school. She was so proud to hold her lunch box and wear her 'big girl' backpack. And, I was so proud of her!

Parents were invited to settle the little ones in until just after morning announcements and welcome from the principal. Of course, Brooke had to pee just as the class was about to stand for 'O Canada' and say the morning prayer. So, she missed the first morning's announcements, but all went well! :) I left a little misty-eyed, but not because I knew she wasn't ready, just because I saw what a little person she was becoming.

Anyways, Brooke had a blast! She played games, sang songs and learned a bit, too! Really loved taking the bus home that first day. I surprised her with a post-school ice cream and she said she had just had the best day ever. Love that. :lovestruc

Loved having the day just with Avie at home, too. We so rarely get to do anything just one-on-one and it was fun to just listen to her little chatter and play simple puzzle and ball games. It was so quiet just the two of us, but we had a great time. I really think I'll need to make the effort to spend a little more quality time with each of them separately. Helps them develop their own personality, I think! :cutie:

What I didn't realize--is just how much homework parents of kindegarteners have! So much paperwork on that first day. Forms to fill out, letters to read, schedules to make, etc. Anyways, anticipating as much yesterday, I checked Brooke's backpack and found...a note saying that some students have been found with lice nits! And, that parents are advised to be vigilant and check their children daily to ensure the lice hasn't spread.

Ughhhh....seriously? The second day of school?! :scared1: I kinda freaked. Pas told me to calm down, that she didn't have it and probably wouldn't get it. And, boy, do I hope so!

Not only would it be terrible timing--we are scheduled for a BBB appointment in just over one week!!--but I don't want to have to shave my daughter's hair. It's just gotten to a fun length after chemo and I think she would be heartbroken by it! (Her favourite part of getting ready for school?--Picking out the barettes or headband we bought specifically for her school outfits.) Sure, I'm probably being paranoid, but I think I have legitimate cause for it! :sad2:

Anyways--enough worrying--we are going to Disney in a week! We're sooooo excited. Besides selling gold pins to raise awareness of childhood cancer (September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month), raising funds for Starlight's Walk of Smiles and volunteering to help organize a local renewal centre's Green Gala, Pas and I are both incredibly busy at work. :surfweb:
If we can just calm down enough to get all of our work and volunteer projects completed by then, we'll be fine--and in a week's time, we'll all be standing outside Cinderella's castle marveling at the dream come true.:banana::banana:

She looked so cute on her first day of school!!! January starts to school tomorrow and doesn't want to go!! January loved the thank you card she received in the mail today!! Love the picture, but she thought it was a bunny!! Few years ago, one of January's Physical therapist told me that lice don't like coconut shampoo! Every school gets lices, but I told my mom and my sister hasn't had any lice the last few years!! I went Wal Mart few weeks ago to get coconut shampoo and they where sold out!! I found some and I will be washing her hair in it tonight!! Hope you have a great trip!!

OMG! As if she wasn't already precious enough! I just LOVE the 1st day of school picture!!!!

I taught preschool for 7 years before switching jobs and I can tell you that lice do not like tea tree oil. I use a kid's shampoo called Koala Pals but there are lots of tea tree oil shampoos on the market. . . . works like a charm! No nits or lice (and my older son was in a preschool class where almost EVERYONE got them except for him) . . . .
I also have friends that use this shampoo called Fairy Tales Hair Care. . . not sure if you can get it in Canada, but the website is:
http://www.fairytaleshaircare.com/?gclid=CPjA_r-1-qoCFQHf4Aodn1CvWA

Oh! and you don't need to shave their heads anymore . . . so no worries there!!!

Good luck! Here's to checking things off the to-do list!

We've used Fairy Tales shampoo, conditioner and de-tangling spray for camp for the last two summers (after DD's best friend came home with lice 3 years ago). Other kids have come home with lice but never my two girls! I order it from Amazon.com. Also, you don't need to shave her head if she does get it. You would have to treat it with the medicated shampoo and then carefully pick through her hair to get rid of any nits. It is time consuming but not too hard.

My older DD was 4 when she got lice and we had to go through her hair. I was just finishing my chemotherapy at that point. It was the only time I was thankful for cancer since it meant that I was still bald. At least I could be certain I wouldn't get lice!!!! But we got lucky and caught it early and neither my husband or other daughter got it either. Just keep an eye on Brooke's head for the next week. Check behind her ears and at the nape of her neck since that is the most likely place for the lice to lay their eggs. Unfortunately all elementary schools have issues with lice these days.

I love the picture of Brooke on her first day of kindergarten. How exciting! I was just talking today with my friend and remembering how our daughters met each other on their very first day of kindergarten. They've been best friends ever since then. Even though her friend's family moved across the country two years ago, the minute they are together again, it is like they were never separated. I hope that Brooke can make a special, best friend like my daughter did. I think my daughter and her friend will be friends for life.

she looks so cute!!!
ya all the paperwork is fun to fill out....it doesn't get any better as they get older either!

hope the lice doesn't come home.....also they don't like heat, so using a hairdryer can help too!

She is such a dolly and looks so hyped for her first day of school. :lovestruc Dont you just love the first of the year homework for parents i sure do i think i fille dout 48 pages total for the 3 of mine in school. You are getting so very close have a great flight and I hope we get to meet down at GKTW it would be so fun to meet someone off here and admire your lovies in person :banana::banana:

So, it started on Friday--a little cold. I was a little annoyed that I caught it (both the girls seemed to already have it) but better it happen now than on the trip. By Monday, the cold had turned into full-on gastro. I spent the day laid up in bed, unable to sleep because of the pain I was in--headache, shakes, achey muscles, vomitting. The whole bit. Lovely. Completely lost my day to pack. Luckily, hubby is fabulous--took care of the girls and put all the luggage together with my instructions.

Today, I was supposed to go back to work to finish up some projects, but am still feeling miserable, so I decided to take a sick day. So far--both girls seem to be finishing up the sniffles with no signs of them catching this flu. Thanks goodness! I hope this virus is over in the next 12 hours! We are D minus two days!! And, I can't imagine being at GKTW with this....

I am very worried about the girls or Pas catching this!

Get well quickly so you can enjoy every minute of the trip! I hope we run into you there! :grouphug:

2 DAYS TIL YOUR TRIP...

Get well soon and have a fab trip!

Praying you're feeling better and no one else got sick!

I received the sweetest card in the mail last week! I'm going to put it on my bulletin board over my sewing machine as soon as I get dh to hang up the board for me :) For now it's on my desk, where it brings a smile to my face every time I glance at it. Thank you for the Thank You card :-)

Oh - I hope you are all feeling better in time for your trip. :wizard: Sending pixie dust your way.

Also, I didn't get to comment on Mss B's first day of school pic - can I just say... A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E!!!!!

D~
