Ok, I have read about there being discounts for the weekend of the Minnie. I know Sports is $89 a night if you book through that Anthony Travel.

What all is involved in that? Is it just a room only rate? Anyone know what Coronado is going for? And are there other resorts avail?

I also read something (I can't remember where, nor can I find it right now) about calling Disney and asking for Grand Gatherings for room discounts? Or something of the like? Is there any information on that? :confused3

Thanks!

According to the Anthony Travel site, they have Coronado for $125. It's a room only rate. Read the fine print if you book, though, cause .........
"All reservations are on a first-come, first-serve basis and must be made prior to March 30th, 2008 to guarantee discounted rate. By booking with Anthony Travel, you are being classified as part of a group attending the Minnie Marathon. As such, you are subject to Disney’s Group Reservation Policies, which are reflected below. All changes to a reservation are fully non-refundable after March 30, 2008, and early departure penalties do apply at the resort. A deposit of one (1) night's room rate and tax per room is due at the time of booking. Final payment is due by March 30, 2008. A per room cancellation fee of one (1) night's room rate and tax per room applies to cancellations made between time of booking and March 30, 2008. Room cancellations after March 30, 2008 are fully non-refundable"

I was thinking of booking it, but figured I'd wait to see if any regular Disney discounts came out for that time period, or if I could rent some DVC points and stay at OKW (which would appear to be the happening place for Minnie!). Meanwhile, I booked Pop through Disney with a AAA rate. (Room only--6 day cancellation policy)

I currently have Music booked with a AAA discount but they only had the AAA for preferred rooms only. Going with Anthony would save me about $38. Enough to get one of the special priced one day tickets you can buy for the Minnie.

If I could get AAA with a std room. Going with Anthony would save me about $15, enough for a pin :)

But good idea though. Wait and see what kind of AP rates they might have out for that time.

We booked Coranado through Anthony Travel and I will tell you why. For both the MNNIE and RFTT last year I waited and Anthony didn't have any rooms left and I missed the AP rates as you know they can fill up fast. Also, just to let you know, Anthony Travel's rates the last few races have been almost exactly what AP rates are, it's really wierd :rolleyes1

The only thing I do hate is the cancellation policy so I have only used them if it is a DEFINATE thing.

For what it's worth, I also booked Coronado with Anthony Travel. I don't have an AP (yet) so it was about the best deal I could find. I LOVE Coronado...stayed there for the marathon weekend last month.

Coronado is probably one of our favorites, our kids LOVE the pool!!! Some of our best Disney memories are at Coronado

I've been waiting around for AP rates before booking anything since the folks are pretty set on getting a 1 BR at Saratoga Springs. Fingers crossed those AP rates come out, otherwise it will be back to Anthony. I booked through them for the Minnie last year and it worked out well.

When do the AP rates usually come out for May? Has anyone done the Princess Package through Anthony before? Do you find the transportation to the starting lines worth it, including staying at AKL? Or is it easier to just rent a car and book my own room? Thanks!

Hello Angie

My original plan for a room for the Minnie 15K may fall through, so can you tell me anything more about Coronado? I assume the rooms are like those of other moderate hotels, but that may be wrong. Are the walkways inside or outside? Anything else you can think of would be helpful.

Also, how did you get from Coronado to the Minnie start last year? It appears to me the easy & fast way is to just take a cab and give the driver a decent tip to offset the short ride. If I do stay at Coronado and go for the cab option I'd be happy to bring along a few other folks like you.

Thanks
Craig

The rooms are like those of the other moderate hotels. The walkways are outside, it kind of has a spanish theme, but comparable to Port Orleans, etc. Rooms have coffee pots, fridge, iron, etc.

Last year the Anthony hotel was Port Orleans and being that I drive over I just drove to the finish for the race at Epcot and they have a bus to take you to start at AK. What I did last year was give a couple of WISHers a ride, JeninGa and Leana - Canadian Eyeore girl :) I will be more than happy to do the same thing this year for anyone who stays at Coronado. I have an Explorer that can seat up to 7 :)

Thank you Angie for the good information. I'm still undecided about where I'll stay that weekend, but Coronado does sound like an attractive alternative.

Take care

Craig

I don't think so. The charge has to be coded as a charge by Disney vacations. (I don't think you get the deal on room only reservations either)

Thanks Leana - just what I was waiting for (and right when I have no money because I have to pay for to many other vacations - sounds like a problem right???)

Ok just went to look and can't find the April and May rates. Where did you find them??

I haven't found a posting of the rates. There is a thread on the Codes board under the resort boards where folks are posting what they got....

Hey guys, since as I understand it there's no special transportation provided from the Dis resorts to the races at Minnie, is there any special advantage to staying onsite (or maybe I should say are there any DISadvantages to staying at a non-Disney hotel nearby)? Is there all of the traffic commotion that people experience during the marathon, or is it relatively easy to drive in from any location and do the park at Epcot thing? Mom and I are looking to save a few $$ on the hotel, and while the Pop or All Stars would be OK, I just want to see if we can do any better (but only IF it's not going to cause us problems with getting there!)

Thanks for any advice!
