Minivan type taxis?

When I think of a taxi I picture a four door sedan. Our trip to Florida includes ten days in WDW (first trip) with an additional four days in Miami. I really don't want to have to rent a mini van for two weeks when I can use free Disney transportation during our stay and then can rent a minivan our last day for the rest of our vacation. Basically I have three questions: 1. If we want to take a taxi to DTD, Pleasure Island or some other place we don't want to take a bus to, do they have the minivan type taxis? 2. Our last day at WDW, how do we get from my resort to Alamo in DTD from CBR with all of our luggage? 3. Would it be better for hubby and I to go to Alamo in the early morning of our last day at WDW to pick up the van while boys wait for us back at the resort (assuming it shouldn't take too long to get it due to all the paperwork or lines) and then take the van back to resort to load up our luggage so we can spend the rest of the day touring/shopping? BTW, our family includes me, hubby and three sons ages 10, 12 and 15. Any suggestions for my two questions? Hope I made sense!:jester:

There are many independant cab companies that use Minivans or full size vans. However, the "official" cab of Disney, Checker Cab does run PLENTY of Full-Size passenger vans for you. There's always an abundance of cabs around the parks, and resorts... however, if you need to call one, they're never far away. From your room, you can dial 0 and they'll connect you with someone.

I beleive Alamo is located at Car Care, near the MK. Regardless of location, they do have a courtesy shuttle bus that will pick you, your family, and your luggage up.

Thank you so much for your reply. I've seen your name a lot on these boards and I'm sure you're the best source for reliable information regarding transportation. Hopefully we'll run into you during our stay. We'll be there 8/14/04-8/24/04. We'll be looking out for you Tyler!:D

Both you and your husband both shouldn't have to go to the rental car facility. You could stay back with the kiddies at the resort. Alamo will provide courtesy shuttle for you to the facility but I would just go pick up the car and bring back to your resort. No sense in packing up twice.

Secondly have you considered a town car one way to your resort from the airport. The cost is very comparable to a taxi and so much nicer.

Actually we did consider a towncar from MCO to our resort but it's too small so we're splurging a little and taking a limo. Well, kids and hubby don't know yet, I'm keeping it hush hush. They'll be so surprised!

you also may want to check on a weekly mini van rental. Sometimes it is only a few dollars more for the entire week verses a few days. Parking at WDW is free for resort guests and towards the end of your stay you may want to go off property for dinner one night. be sure to check out www.mousesavers.com for rental car discounts. Just a suggestion.
