Just wanted to post this quick mini review of our first stay at Riverside. We were there for 10 nights, and arrived home yesterday.
Resort overall - nice, but perhaps the least "Disney like" resort we have stayed at. The room was nice, all new etc., but far from the usual Disney clean we are used too. Dust on the table bottoms, toilet lime stains etc. Not bad, but not perfect. Other than that, the room was fine.
Housekeeping - Mmm, what can I say. See note on dust above. No towel animals, I know they are not mandatory, but coming off a 10 night stay last year at the Wilderness Lodge coming home to at least one every night, my kids would have liked at least one. Also had to ask for refills on soap, shampoo and conditioner. Never had to do that before.
Grounds, pool and food court. Fantastic overall. Great food, but again, very average staff at the food court. No Disney feel again. Pool - fun, clean, nice size. The kids enjoyed it very much. Grounds - nice. Good for early morning walks. We were in the mansion building right across the bridge from the pool area.
The only "extra" activity we did was fishing. Again, the cast member at the booth was rather un Disney, and actually, rather rude. Granted, we arrived 45 minutes before the hole closes, but his attitude about how much time we had left, and his very abrupt "you have to leave now" attitude were a little disturbing.
Front desk. Fine I guess, but, again, I had issues with them. In short, I had called the # about a bounce back for next year as nothing was in my room. I was told there was one available, free dining, and if I didn't want to book right away, just do it before I checked out etc. I needed to discuss with my wife first, so I went to the front desk to get a direct number. First, I was told the front desk does not handle reservations, and that there was no current bounce back. When I told them there was, I was pretty much told I was wrong. I asked them to verify, and after a few huffs, puffs, grunts etc., they finally called the housekeeping manager, and were told "oh yeah, we just forgot to put the slips in the rooms". I was then told I'd see one the next day, which I did.
Buses - we drive, except to MK, so not a lot there. They were packed on trips back at night, and we usually had at least an hour wait. Not good, hence, we drive almost every where else.
Enough on that though. In a nutshell, we had an OK stay, but I seriously doubt I'd stay there again. I'm sure my experience was not common, but it really rubbed me the wrong way. I've had better service, a cleaner room, and happier cast members at POP.
I think I'll go back to the Wilderness Lodge next year - oh yeah, I already booked that bounce back!
