Just wanted to post this quick mini review of our first stay at Riverside. We were there for 10 nights, and arrived home yesterday.

Resort overall - nice, but perhaps the least "Disney like" resort we have stayed at. The room was nice, all new etc., but far from the usual Disney clean we are used too. Dust on the table bottoms, toilet lime stains etc. Not bad, but not perfect. Other than that, the room was fine.

Housekeeping - Mmm, what can I say. See note on dust above. No towel animals, I know they are not mandatory, but coming off a 10 night stay last year at the Wilderness Lodge coming home to at least one every night, my kids would have liked at least one. Also had to ask for refills on soap, shampoo and conditioner. Never had to do that before.

Grounds, pool and food court. Fantastic overall. Great food, but again, very average staff at the food court. No Disney feel again. Pool - fun, clean, nice size. The kids enjoyed it very much. Grounds - nice. Good for early morning walks. We were in the mansion building right across the bridge from the pool area.

The only "extra" activity we did was fishing. Again, the cast member at the booth was rather un Disney, and actually, rather rude. Granted, we arrived 45 minutes before the hole closes, but his attitude about how much time we had left, and his very abrupt "you have to leave now" attitude were a little disturbing.

Front desk. Fine I guess, but, again, I had issues with them. In short, I had called the # about a bounce back for next year as nothing was in my room. I was told there was one available, free dining, and if I didn't want to book right away, just do it before I checked out etc. I needed to discuss with my wife first, so I went to the front desk to get a direct number. First, I was told the front desk does not handle reservations, and that there was no current bounce back. When I told them there was, I was pretty much told I was wrong. I asked them to verify, and after a few huffs, puffs, grunts etc., they finally called the housekeeping manager, and were told "oh yeah, we just forgot to put the slips in the rooms". I was then told I'd see one the next day, which I did.

Buses - we drive, except to MK, so not a lot there. They were packed on trips back at night, and we usually had at least an hour wait. Not good, hence, we drive almost every where else.

Enough on that though. In a nutshell, we had an OK stay, but I seriously doubt I'd stay there again. I'm sure my experience was not common, but it really rubbed me the wrong way. I've had better service, a cleaner room, and happier cast members at POP.

I think I'll go back to the Wilderness Lodge next year - oh yeah, I already booked that bounce back! :cool1:

Had u ever stayed moderate or value before? Just wondering because a few ppl have told me that once u get the feel of deluxe it kinda spoils u
We check in POR on the 22 kinda worried

Yes we have stayed moderate, all the others actually, and a few of the values before.

I need to say I didn't mean my first post to seem really negative. It is a nice resort and we had a good time, but of all my Disney stays, it is so far my least favorite. Yes, even under Movies and POP.

So OP would you suggest movies or pop over por for someone who has only stayed wilderness lodge? If I am reading your post right I am thinking that we may be disappointed in riverside? We can't afford another trip to wilderness lodge but would like to stay onsite. I was looking at riverside or French quarter but perhaps movies or pop would be better and save $$$ too. What other moderates did you prefer out of curiosity?

Each guest has a different experience so you can't be too worried about your own stay unless there is a plethora of negative reviews on a regular basis. I just got back from 10 days at POR and had an excellent time. Only complaint was that one day I couldn't find a chair at the main pool ( people didn't clean up their towels so you didn't know if chairs were taken or not.) I'm already hoping to go back in 2 years and stay at POR again, it would be my 3rd stay at the resort.

We only stay at POR and love it! We really can't imagine staying anywhere else. We heard it's the nicest moderate resort? We always have a towel shaped animal (maybe it was a fluke it wasn't done?).

I still like the mods over the values. Mainly for the fridge, but I think the values have them now, the pool slide, bigger rooms, queen beds etc. Again, Riverside was fine, just not what I expected after staying at a number of other Disney resorts. (Pretty much everywhere except the Grand Floridian and Beach Club over the years).

My favorite mod? I have liked them all actually, but, oddly, I enjoyed Port Orleans French Quarter quite a bit more than the others. The size, smaller, made it easy to get around. One bus stop, and we had some great service over all there. You also have the boats to DTD and you can walk to Riverside for use of their pool if you want a change, and it's far better food court.
However, like others have noted, one stay does not a resort, good or bad, make.
It's still all pretty good. :)

We are In alligator bayou and staying 10 days as well. I fin housekeeping to be lacking as well but no other issues. We also drive everywhere but last year our buses were really long. Just a ton of people there.

This year my other complaint is just how busy the foodcourt is each morning. I'm wondering if the deluges have the waits like Por does?

I found the Mill to be crazy busy after 9:00 for breakfast. I guess not that many early risers or rope droppers at POR!

OP: I just want to say I am sorry your stay at POR wasn't up to par! We love POR, its our favorite resort so seeing a negative review makes me sad.

Now to others who are worried about POR vs a deluxe, in my opinion, don't be! The OP had an experience that was less than stellar and it stinks when that happens. But it could happen anywhere. He might have stayed at WL last week and had something similar or worse, because it can happen anywhere.

We have had great stays at deluxe's, used to own DVC and are still quite happy at a value and happiest at a mod. For us, they work best. The only thing I miss at a DVC/deluxe is a balcony, but not enough to shell out hundreds or even thousands more for our 10-14 night trips.

But I am sure sorry the OP had this happen, there's something about a Disney resort not being Disney that is just wrong!:(

I'm sorry your stay wasn't that great.

I love POR - it's been my favorite moderate. I'm not a big fan of having Disney icons everywhere so that may be why. Although I'm staying in a Royal Room on my next stay just to check it out so I guess I'll be having those in my room. LOL

The bounceback issue doesn't surprise me. The front desk at any resort never seems to know about those. I asked them about it when I stayed at BWI because there wasn't one in my room and they had no clue. But I knew the extension number and called it from my room and got the bounceback.

I don't notice how housekeeping is as long as I've got clean towels and the garbage is empty and everything works in the room. Towel animals don't matter although I have to admit the one time I got one, it was cute. But then I'm there solo most of the time so they most likely wouldn't leave them anyway.

But the lack of refills of shampoo would have bugged me since that's what I use and having to call housekeeping to get more would've gotten old fast if I'd had to call more than once.

Buses anywhere are always hit or miss. If you hit it wrong, you can have a long wait. I was lucky on my last trip - never had more than a 10 minute wait and I'm hoping for that on my next trip too but my luck isn't always so good.

I hope your next trip is much better.

POR is gorgeous. its our fave mod. Dont worry! I wouldnt change my resort reservation based on the OP's experience. It was just that, HIS/HER experience. When we stayed there the room was spotless, and our supplies were constantly replenished. Mousekeeping was fantastic, even thou we didnt get a towel animal either. great. The OP thought the CM at the fishing hole was rude, but perhaps it was a misunderstanding? Ive noticed that with some ppl where english is their 2nd language, they come across as abrasive when in fact its far from what theyre trying to be. I work with a few ppl like that and had a discussion with them, they dont realise they come across as rude. So maybe it was just a misunderstanding on the OP's part. Who knows. I've had a few misunderstandings with CM's before, but i wouldnt let that get to me or i wouldnt hold that against the resort itself. that makes no sense to me. I had a room mix up at POR, but dispite their mistake, they handled it very well and fixed it as best as they could. I got an upgrade to a river view room! Yay! :) We also had trouble with the safe in our room, but they fixed it real quick. These things happen. What can you do. This stuff can happen anywhere. I've read negative reviews (similar complaints) about delux level resorts. Shocking huh? Lol.

About the buses...going from MK to ANY resort after wishes at night will be TOTALLY INSANE. The transportation system isnt perfect anywhere. Not even at delux level! So take it all with a grain of salt. Try out POR. You never know, you just might like it! We sure did. :goodvibes

POR & POP are both great resorts, in different ways. POP is more colorful (and loud). POR is more serene, grounds are lush. i'd go based on your budget and which theme you like best. Theyre both wonderful. Pop is my fave value so far (havent tried AoA), and POR is our fave mod. You cant go wrong.

The food courts at most resorts are crazy in the mornings. Everyone is trying to make it for rope drop. i've seen it at CSR, POR, Pop, Movies, Sports etc.

Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy POR as much as you hoped.

We're going to POR in a few weeks time, I've read both good and bad reviews about the place but we'll judge for ourselves :)

Thanks for the review! We are doing 2 nights in a Royal Room before 8 nights at Poly and were really hesitant to book a moderate (even for only 2 nights) because of our lackluster experience at CBR. We actually wanted AoA for our 2 nights but it isn't available with our mil discount, so POR it is. Even at CBR we still had a great trip, except for when we were at CBR...:rotfl2: I'm hoping POR is at least better than that!

We love POR as well as WL, and have stayed at ASMu as well as POP. I would never choose a value over PoR! It is a gorgeous resort. We drive to the parks so the buses weren't an issue. We definitely love WL but can't always afford it. Our favorite mod is coronado, though ;-)

I have stated at Sports and pop and have never seen lines like we encounter here. Like a PP said, the strange thing is that it's 45 mins after the parks opened, and still it's packed!

We stayed at Poly in our first trip and POR our last two trips. We like both but can't justify the extra money for Poly or any other deluxe when POR/mods have everything we need.

This year my other complaint is just how busy the foodcourt is each morning. I'm wondering if the deluges have the waits like Por does?

We went to the POR food court around 7:30am each morning so we could get to the bus by 8-8:15 to make RD. In our experiences, the lines were minimal and we had no trouble finding a seat. We did go over to POFQ around 8:30-9am one morning for breakfast and it was much busier, but it was also much smaller. We had to eat in the lounge. I guess we were just early and beat the crowd :confused3

I do agree with OP on the POR housekeeping issues. We stayed in Acadian House last trip and when we walked into our room the first time, there were crumbs by the AC/window seat, finger prints on the mirror, and drink rings on top of the armoire where the TV is. There were also no toiletries. The crumbs remained almost our whole trip so I doubt they were vacuuming daily. We got one towel animal. For the remainder of our stay, toiletries and towels were not consistently replaced - sometimes we'd get one wash cloth, sometimes two, etc. We did not complain about any of it and it would not deter us from staying there again, but just something to note.

Stayed at POR last Christmas and thought it was the nicest of the resorts we've stayed at so far (mind you we haven't stayed at deluxe...yet....) So lush and green and spacious, and we were lucky to have one of the brand new AB rooms for families of 5, so very clean and new! I thought it felt like Disney enough for me, it was REALLY beautiful with the christmas decorations and singing in the lobby etc. I would go back in a heartbeat over CSR which seemed totally undisney to me, and ASM, which seemed VERY disney, but very crowded and loud...

We never found the lines at the foodcourt to be long at all, and we were there over the holidays, as well. I agree that FQ seemed much busier when DH and I walked over one a.m. for some beignets......Ahhhh makes me want to go back!!! but we are trying AKV this time.

We've stayed at many Disney resorts and only got a few towel animals this last time at POFQ. I think that it depends on who is cleaning the room, not the resort. I also never ran into particularly long lines in the mornings at either POFQ or PORS last month. (I walked over to PORS for breakfast twice.)

I like PORS better than most resorts personally. But of course to each their own.
