I am just home an hour ago from a short five night trip to Boardwalk Villas. I went solo this time, just to get away and relax. And it's the first time I've seen the Christmas decorations in 10 years!

The Room -
I was in a standard studio, #2085. I am happy to report my room was in PERFECT condition. I checked in around 5 PM, so, of course, the room was ready. It was spotless and everything in perfect working condition. There were two small stains on the arm of the sofa, and a scratch on the kitchen counter, and that's all I could find wrong.

I loved this location. It is the same floor as the lobby, maybe 10-12 doors from the elevator. I was right next door to the ice room, and never heard any noise from that. I was 2 doors from the trash room, which was very convenient. The balcony was very private and larger than most balconies I've had before. This was a dedicated studio, so it had the daybed. There wasn't a coffee table, which would have been nice. There also wasn't a VCR or DVD player. Did I imagine it, or were these being added to the studios?

I DID have some noise when trying to sleep, and never figured out what it was. It was RIGHT at my head when laying in bed, and sounded like it was IN the wall (like when we had squirrels in our walls at home :scared1: :rolleyes1). One night I didn't have any neighbors in that room, and didn't hear it that night. Not sure if they were opening and closing drawers, digging out the cables to hook up to the internet or what. I only noticed it at night, but maybe that's because that's when I had the tv off. Not sure what was on that side of the wall in their room, so not sure what it was.

The Resort -
Of course, the decorations were amazing. Overall the resort was in really good condition. They were power washing the balconies while I was there. I also saw them cleaning some of the carpets in the hallways.

The Parks -
The parks were more crowded than I expected. We prefer the third of fourth week of January, when we have found the crowds to be non-existant. I chose this week in November, thinking most people would have gone the week before, when the kids were out of school. Most rides had little wait, but there were so many people everywhere.

My Complaints -
This has happened more than once, so I was sure to remember it this time - if you're in a studio, check your refrigerator as soon as you get to the room. I have found they are usually turned all the way down. I guess they do this to save energy, but it is annoying. I have never had this issue in a 1 or 2 bedroom. My refrigerator was not even cool, much less cold. I cranked it to max, but 3 hours later, when I returned to my room with a quart of milk, it still wasn't cold. I had to put the milk in the ice bucket full of ice. By 11 PM, I could finally put the milk in the refrigerator and go to bed!

Will we ever get free internet in the rooms? I don't even know/remember the cost, but I know it's a ridiculous daily amount. Thing is, I NEED to get online about 15 min. a day to check email, etc. I'd even be happy to pay by the amount of time used, similiar to how it works on the cruise. But, I think DVC, like ALL other hotels I go to, needs to offer this for free.

I'd be happy to answer any questions!

Glad the resort looks good! Was this your first solo trip? How did you find that aspect of it?

I was glad the resort looked good, too. I've read lots of negatives on here lately, so was glad to find the opposite. And to see actual evidence (power washing the balconies, cleaning the carpets) that regular maintenance was going on.

No, this was actually my fourth trip solo, but it's been a while. My solo trips have been in 1998, 2000, 2004 and now this time. My DH isn't quite the Disney fan I am, plus doesn't get as much vacation time as I do. My brother, my sisters and my nephews are usually lined up to go with me, but this time it just worked out to go solo.

I enjoy an occasional solo trip, but I tend to like a lot of alone time, so it works for me. My sister, on the other hand, would never dream of it. I spent one day shopping at Downtown Disney, one day "off" just resting, and two days in the parks. I sometimes strike up conversations with people, and sometimes just keep to myself. The thing is, I can do WHATEVER I want, WHENEVER I want to. I am usually "Tour Guide Barbie" on Disney trips, and it's nice to occasionally do exactly what you want, spend as long as you want in a shop, etc. If you've never done a solo trip, and are thinking about it, check out the Adults and Solo boards.

Hope this helps!

Glad to hear BWV is lookin good:goodvibes

A solo trip.....I would Looooove that...

Did you do any table service....if so where...
Kerri

Alldiz, no, I didn't do any table service. I know it's just my own personal hang up, but I don't enjoy table service solo. This drives my husband nuts and he can't understand my uncomfortableness, as he dines solo all the time. Counter service doesn't bother me solo, probably because there is no waiter, and you're not there as long.

I eat breakfast in my room with stuff I brought - cereal, oatmeal, fruit. Then for lunch and/or dinner I get counter service, get ice cream, eat some protein bars or crackers I bring in with me, or a combination of everything. I just eat when I get hungry, not necessarily at "meal time." I really enjoy having a snack while sitting on a bench and watching all the people. It's like you're invisible.

Next time you go solo try eating at the counter at Flying Fish or Jiko. It's fun to watch the chefs and talk to them while they cook. I don't don't like dining alone but I always enjoy the experience at the "kitchen counter." I guess it's because it's like eating at home in my own kitchen. Except nothing I cook compares to Jiko or Flying Fish.

Thanks, BrvchJ! That's a really good idea. I've never eaten at either of those places, though I/we've stayed at BWV about 10 times. It has just never worked out yet. I'll keep it in mind for next time.
