Just got back from an 8 night trip. Here's a very quick run down of our dining experiences.
Tony's. Often I read bad reviews of Tony's. Mostly negative comments about their Maranara sauce. None in our party has ever tried that so can't comment. However, we have eaten at Tony's 3 times over the years and every time is a good experience. Seated within 5 minutes, friendly staff and good food. Three in our party, one had chicken pasta alfredo, two had steak. Nothing spectacular but good food, great staff and an enjoyable meal.
Coral Reef. We visted here 4 years ago and had a poor meal. I had steak which was tough, fatty etc. Others complained of cold meals. Service was slow, not a good night. But this past week was very different. Seated right away near aquarium. Steak, seafood and staff were all great!
Ohanas. Usually we've had to wait well past our ADR. Not this trip. Full house but was seated immediatly. I've heard complainted about dried out overcooked meats and poor service. Not this time. Food was supurb and waiter kept coming by with more.
San Angel. One of our favorates. This time was mixed. Food was great as always but service was horribly slow. All of us ordered the steak mole with stuffed pepper which was excellent.
Teppan Edo. Never tried this one but did so as kids love teppanyaki at home. While this place gets great reviews it will not from us. First off it was sweltering hot outside at night and inside at the table was no better. It was dang hot! I assume its because of poor A/C to counter the heat from all the tables. But this is not a problem at any other similar place. Food was decent but simply no comparison to what we can get at home for a far lower price. We won't be going here again mostly because of the horrible heat table side.
Chefs De France. We love this place. Always great food and this time was no exception. Had steaks and seafood combo which were both good. However, service was lousy. Not a single drink refill during our entire dinner. Sorbet dessert with mixed fruits was one of the best!
Kona. Our best overall meal. Service was great as was the food. The desserts are all excellent. I prefer Kona over Ohanas next door.
Le Celliar. A love it or hate it restaurant lately! We love it. Best steak we had on our trip with Kona's a close 2nd. All of us felt the desserts were very lacking. Service was great.
