Strange question but am just wondering how do you get on giving a baby/toddler milk on planes (particularly International flights)? Previously I have just taken powdered formula (in formula dispensers) and added water and it in the bottles but now Baby Girl is on regular plain milk. Obviously I can't take a big bottle of milk with us to use each time...sooo...any advice? We are flying Qantas this time, for first time. I'm sure I am over thinking this but it is a 'new' part of travelling that is bugging me trying to work it out.

You shouldn't have any problem if you fill the sippy cups or bottles with milk and put it in a soft sided cooler. You will be asked what it is - just be honest as on the plane you will not be able to get regular milk only UHT.

We have never had an issue however when we were travelling with breast milk in containers (and we had the baby with us) we were asked to drink some! Of course I refused but I offered to feed it to my DS and they said not to worry about it!

Good luck! I hope other message board members can offer more recent experiences.

I'm not sure but why don't you contact Qantas via fb and send a pm and they'll be able to tell you.

You could also try asking about bringing on milk boxes. They are small, portable, and don't require refrigeration. Not sure if they are considered exempt as breast milk/formula is, but it would probably be easy to find out.

I don't know about that one because there is a limit on the amount of liquid you bring in. We weren't allowed to bring in a bottle of water from outside but it was fine once we went through the customs thingy to buy one there and take it on the plane no questions asked. So maybe once you're in the waiting lounge for international, you could buy your milk there.

Ky71 that is so funny that they asked you to drink some lol Reminds me of the poison tasters for the kings. lol

Thanks everyone :) Maybe buying milk in the terminal is a good idea...they do sell it don't they? Might also ask in the family board see if anyone has any other ideas :)

Coming home last time I had some formulated milk left in a bottle I'd forgot about it showed up at the LA security, they got it out of my bag (didn't allow me to touch it "Ma'am do not touch the bag" - lol acted like it was an explosive) and took it for a test, came back after a min and gave it back to me no worries.

You will not be able to buy plain milk in sealed cartons/bottles in the terminal at LAX, DFW or MCO. However you can always ask at a coffee shop if they would sell you enough to fill your containers after you have gone through security. When our DS was 3yo we had success at MCO but not other airports.

Take it in bottles and you will be fine. We took 3x 260ml bottles of milk for DS3. We got our vegemite confiscated (it's apparently a liquid and I forgot to pack it in our checked baggage), but the milk when through no worries. I didn't have to taste it either. DS3 is 2 but NEEDS milk to sleep.
