I'm hoping someone can help settle an argument between DH and I. I have googled and can't find an answer anywhere. He was deployed to a combat zone almost all of last year so most of his income was nontaxable. Looking at his w-2 his nontaxable income is much higher than his taxable income, as it should be, but they don't add up to how much he actually earned. I handle our finances and I know he brought home approximately $20000 more in nontaxable income last year.

He says that they only put his base pay on there and don't include all of the extra pay (hostile fire, etc). I think that may be what they did, but aren't they supposed to include ALL of his pay? If so, shouldn't he ask to get an amended w-2 before we file?

If anyone has a link to reference their answer that would be great because otherwise he won't believe me.

Thank-you for those links! Sadly I'm wrong :rotfl:, but at least now I know for sure and when we're ready I can move ahead with filing our taxes.

Things like BAH, BAS, Sep Pay, TDY pay , PCS entiltments , Hazardous Duty and so on are not taxable. The only pay I know that is taxable is any money you make from a DITY move and I think if you get some sort of reenlistment bonus.

I know they're not taxable, but I thought they were still supposed to be on his W-2 in box 12 with the other nontaxable income, but apparently not.

If it helps-all his PAY does show on his W-2. BAH,BAS and so on are non-taxable ALLOWANCES and thus dont show up on the W-2-so you were both right :)

Well, it's semantics, but I'll take it ;)

Yes, he has a Q, but the amount isn't high enough to have included the allowances, that's what confused me.
