If we buy the military salute tickets on base do we have to go to the ticket booth to activate the tickets or can we go straight to the gate? TIA!

Straight to the gate--they are e-tickets, at least in my experience (we've used them every year for the last 4). That being said... you can buy them at the gates too. After I nearly forgot them (like, leaving for the airport in 30 minutes, and realized I forgot to pack them), I just buy them at the gates now! LOL!

If you buy them at the gates, will they tax you? If you buy them on base, no tax. And certain ticket offices sell them for cheaper than others. The base price is $143, but I am going to get my tickets at Lackland AFB for $140 each. Not a huge difference, but a savings is a savings.

Just wanted to encourage your family to check out the Flag Retreat ceremony at DL each day at 4:45. They recognize service members and it really is worth doing once or twice during your visit!

We have always wanted to do that! I think we will this time! My husband would love it and I would love for my boys to see it. Thanks!

Thank you ^ we will definitely check it out!

Disney's website states that they can be purchased for family as well. If tickets are purchased on base, do you need a military member to check in with you at the gates? There is no mention of that on the t&c's.

According to all I have read or seen the military member needs to be with you when you use the tickets for the first time. My stepmom said when she got them last time nobody ever checked her ID even for first use of the tickets but they usually check her military ID when they activate the tickets for the first time but not for subsequent entries. For example, for a 3 day park hopper the military member needs to enter the parks with you on the very first day but not on the next two days of your trip.

Disneyland DOES NOT CHARGE tax on tickets

To add to this: no theme park in California charges state tax on admission.

You will be charged tax at WDW at the gate on military tickets, though, since Florida does tax their theme parks. So those are the ones to get in advance if you're ever doing a trip there :)
