Military Salute w/ AP

Hi. Military family here. We have been grateful to be able to use the military salute tickets for years. This year- Although SoCal natives, we are first time AP holders for Disneyland woohoo!

Here is the issue- what does anyone know about this. We want to get salute tickets for family to go with us, which according to thwebsite is cool. My issue is normally we utilize the salute tickets with them- this year we have AP’s.

The Disney website says:
“Important Details for Promotional Ticket Offer
Disney Military Promotional Tickets may be purchased at participating U.S. military sales outlets only by Eligible Service Members (defined below) or their spouses (but not both), who present valid military identification, for use by themselves and other family members and friends, as provided herein.”

But.....Further down the page also says...

“In addition, one of the six (6) Tickets purchased must be used by the Eligible Service Member or his/her spouse”

We will be using the AP. If we HAVE to use one of the salute tickets for the service member can we upgrade or credit the balance on our flex account? I don’t think they sell salute tickets at the Disneyland gate? Should we have to get one for us. We would already had purchased on base for family.
Anyone ever go through this?
we have always done the salute but this year having the AP is throwing us off.
Much appreciate any advice.

Does anyone know if we can apply that salute should we need to purchase an additional one if they say the service member can’t utilize the AP and needs to use a salute ticket at the gate to allow fam to use their salutes tickets towards our AP payment balance or if not upgrade the AP?

I do not believe you can apply the value of a ticket toward payment of an already active AP.

Under Number 6, it says:

Note: Disney Pass Holders do not need to have a Salute ticket for themselves, but one of the 6 tickets is “reserved” for the member and cannot be used by others.

While not a Disney-official answer, Military Disney Tips is a pretty darn reliable source

I am thinking.... the idea of them being a ticket holder themselves is to ensure people are not selling and are actually attending themselves. That said if they require us to purchase one for ourselves, I wonder if we can upgrade our current ap with that ticket. Such a waste to purchase an additional 3 days salute ticket to be used when already have an AP. Grateful for the opportunity tho.

I don't think you can apply the cost of the ticket to an AP that you already own. Can only be applied when buying the AP in the first place; but you should not be forced to buy a ticket for yourself. However, I think Disney Military Tips is almost always spot-on, so what that means is that you will only be allowed to buy 5 military salute tickets instead of the usual 6 tickets, since you are using an AP instead of a MS ticket.

On our last trip in 2017, my dad was the military sponsor but had an AP for himself, and just bought the salute tickets for my brother and I. He had to be with us of course to show his ID and activate the salute tickets upon entering the park for the first time, but there was no issue with that he wasn't using a salute ticket himself.

Also, I've read mixed reports here about people being unable to buy salute tickets at the park ticket booths. We've never had an issue buying them at the Disneyland Hotel, but I'm sure there have been threads here about the ticket booths claiming they were 'sold out.'

I also realised after posting that while 2017 was our last trip, we also did the same (dad/sponsor with AP, salute tickets for brother and I) in 2015 and 2016 as well.
