Hello,
any military reservists/spouses that have utilized the cruise discount? Appreciate if you can give me any advice. I spoke with DCL agent & they said that the reservist or spouse must provide 1)proper military ID
& 2) documentation proving that the reservist is active duty--how do we obtain this? Do they really check for this paperwork at the check in counter?
we have cruised before when he was active duty military & that was easy because all we did was show our military ID @ cruise terminal check in counter. This time, as a reservist, we're not sure if it will be that easy.

Thanks in advance

Very good questions indeed. I can vouch for the fact that they indeed require proof of eligibility at the check in counter. I can't pull up the eligibility documentation from the Disney site, but I would be a little surprised if you actually had to be activated. So it might be worth while to wait until someone else chimes in and even then still call Disney and if you get a difference of opinions.

DCL site states: Activated members (or spouse) of the U.S. National Guard or the U.S. Army Reserve must also show active duty orders (active duty papers must be dated as of January 1st of the previous year to qualify).

I just want a clarification of this. When i spoke w/the DCL live chat agent, she said per her supervisor that it needs to be an official doc stating the reservist 'can be called to active duty at any given time.' I'm just not sure if this is a specific G.I. doc or whatnot..my husband isn't even sure himself/has no clue :headache:
it would royally suck if you show up at the counter & they deny boarding due to improper documentation. wish the (Sel)reserve military ID was good enough..

I'm a Navy Reservist (SELRES), and I've gotten Disney military discounts with no problems just showing my CAC. The CAC hasn't said RESERVE and ACTIVE for years. If you have the SELRES member, you will not have any problems.

If you are state National Guard, then you would need to show your mobilization orders. If you are in the Individual Ready Reserve, then you would need to show mobilization orders.

The only issue you would see is if you were a SELRES family trying to travel WITHOUT the military member. SELRES dependent military IDs are different than Active Duty dependent military IDs (SELRES dependents are not authorized medical care; when I was mobilized 2 years ago my family had to get new ID cards; when I returned they again had to turn in their active dependent IDs to get SELRES dependent IDs again. However, I kept the same CAC the entire time. So if you want to travel without the reservist, you would need a copy of his/her mobilization orders to be eligible.

thanks Rob for better clarification. it's a very high possibility that i might travel without reservist..re: his copy of mobilization orders--that means he's definitely gotta be mobilized/deployed to active duty as a reservist? the whole 'wknd warrior' thing won't be good enough huh?
i know that i can get entrance discounts for Disneyland & WDW just w/my reserve ID alone...but cruising..is a different story.

You might have no problem. However, since your dependent ID card is a different color than the active duty dependent ID card, there is a chance that the Disney CM might recognize it as a different category and impact the discount. Most places don't know the difference; my wife can get a military discount in the mall stores with her reserve dependent ID. I'd hate for you to gamble and run into problems.
