Military families that use Disney Visa Credit Card?

Does anyone know if park tickets purchased at SoG are considered as purchased at a Disney location in order to get the 2% reward dollars on the Disney Premier Visa card? I know SoG is on property but technically we'd still be buying through the ITR office so I'm just curious which category it would fall under.

Also, does anyone know if commissaries are coded as grocery stores with this card? I'm trying to decide whether to go with the premier card or the regular rewards card. We'd use it strictly for some bills/gas/groceries and pay off the balance each month in order to save up some spending money at the parks, but if commissaries don't count as a grocery store then we'll most likely go with the regular card.

I don't think they would be. But why not call the Disney Visa and ask them

I don't believe the ticket office at SoG would be considered a Disney ticket office, they are an authorized reseller. You can buy the same tickets at TTC or any Disney ticket window, but you will pay 6.5% tax on them.

Not sure about the Disney Visa, but our USAA Amex lists the Commissary as Government Services, I would call to ask them.

Yeah I didn't think the ITR office would count. I guess I'll just buy tix here on post - no point in paying 6.5% tax to get rewards!
Thanks everyone!

No, for Disney Visa purposes, any purchases made on Shades of Green will not count as "Disney" purchases, since SoG is not Disney-owned, nor does SoG make use of Chase (the official bank of WDW) credit card terminals/ATMs (SoG contracts with a different company to process card payments).

Most CC purchases made at SoG (with the exception of the on-property BX/PX) will simply say "Shades of Green" on your monthly statement. The Exchange purchases usually say something to the effect of "AAFES, Patrick AFB, FL".

Not sure about military commissaries, either -- it all has to do with the "category code" retailers set-up with their in-house credit/debit card processors.

Thanks JB2K. I will just go with the regular rewards card and if the commissary is coded as grocery I suppose I could always upgrade then. :)

Amex blue cash prefered codes military commissaries as groceries stores. The card has 6 % cash back on groceries 3% on gas and department stores and 1% on everything else all the time with no rotating categories. It does have an annual fee but with 6% on groceries I still come out waaaay ahead of other reward cards. It s a much better reward card than the Disney one. I have a regular Disney visa for discounts but that's all. I be looked at the disney premier but I don 't think the annual fee is worth the benefits on that card.

It's worth noting at my base they charge 6-7% at the ticket office if you use a credit card there by negating your tax savings. They require payment in cash or check or they will charge the fee.

I'll have to look into that AMEX card... we currently have zero credit card debt (like to keep it that way) and were planning on never using our cards again. We've never used credit cards to get rewards but as long as the balance is paid monthly some of these cards seem to be a pretty good deal!

Really? I have never heard of that. I've always bought our tickets at our ITR office on post with a debit card and have never been charged a fee like that.

I would imagine "YMMV" on that one, as I have purchsed tickets from Scott AFB, Illinois with no surcharges tacked-on.

But then again, Scott is a major USAF base, and some of the small bases may sell only a few Disney tickets a month...

The base here doesn't charge extra for using a credit card.. Or any other Itt /mwr I've been to.

I'm at ftgordon so not a small base and they often sellout of tickets. Perhaps because its army? (Dh is AF and we have never in. 13 years been stationed on an air base :(

We are at Ft. Benning and have never been charged any kind of fee on any tickets we have bought at ITT, and we have used cash and credit. I don't think I would be buying them there if they were going to charge a fee.

I think there is a misunderstanding - you won't pay tax if you make a purchase at Shades of Green ticket office, but you won't get points. I think the PP meant you would pay tax at OTHER (Disney) ticket windows where you can purchase the military ticket, using your Visa to get the reward points.

For the record, I have never paid a fee to use a credit card at an ITT (Information, Tickets and Tours) window - big base, little base, Air Force Base, Army Base, Navy Exchange, mwr recreation facilities. I am surprised to read that.

I'm near Fort Knox and have never been charged any kind of fee on th tickets either and that is where I have bought the tickets several times.

We are in Northern VA and shop at the commissary every week and Yes! It is coded as a grocery store. We called Chase and specifically asked this question before we upgraded our card last year.

No I got that :) I meant that it wouldn't make much sense to go buy the tickets at the MK ticket window for example just to get the rewards on the visa because of the tax charge, when I could just avoid it by buying here on post. I wasn't sure about SoG though, but now I know!

That is good to hear, thank you!
