We are staying at Pop Century and only using Disney Transportation--my question is, can we buy the 4day discount tickets at any park--or only at SOG? I realize that we'll pay tax but it would be a long complicated trip to get to SOG from Pop. We are retired so don't live near a military base.

I'm pretty sure you can activate them at any park but you must by on a military base or at SOG. I'd spend a few dollars on a taxi and get there quick and easy.

We bought ours at Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Shades of Green and all were activated at the first park we went to.

If you do need to go to SOG, its not that complicated. Take POP bus to Magic Kingdom get on Monorail and off at Polynesion Resort...short walk across the street to SOG...

It will cost about $20.00 to take a taxi from POP to SOG, buy your tickets and then ask for the golf cart to take you to the end of the drive way and its a short walk from there to the Poly. DH and I are also retired and we do it all the time!
While your at SOG have breakfast at their buffet, it's lovely and at hometown prices.

The Armed Forces Salute tickets may be purchased at any Park (including TTC, water parks, DTD or Epcot International Gateway) ticket or Guest Relations window.

If you go to the locked sticky Everything About WDW Tickets in the TPA&S Forum, especially Post #17, you can get a lot more information. An easy way to get to the sticky is by clicking on the link in my signature. The ticket sticky is your friend!

Ask the hotel about golfing at the Magnolia golf course. If you are interested in golfing there they will shuttle you directly over there for free. My husband did it and Disney called him a cab and sent him to SOG. He told the driver he was making a tee time, bought the tix, then was driven back. He gave the driver a nice tip. Everyone seemed to know what was up and they all just gave him a wink and went on about their business.:rolleyes1

For Salute tickets, must the veteran be present at turnstile to use? Pop Pop is a vet, but no assurance with his health he could or would come to the parks...

he doesn't need to be at the turnstile each day but he does need to be present to activate the tickets.

Please note these tickets are for active duty and retired military, not simply someone who is a veteran.

He or his ID holding spouse must be there to activate the tickets.

This is true. The Armed Forces Salute tickets are not available to every person who has ever served in the military.

The tickets need to be activated for all parties by him or a spouse.
Since he is the Military party up to 5 additional tickets can be purchased. If he is not going, his Spouse would only be able to purchase and activate 5 (including her ticket) He would be eligible as a vet under the following conditions

Eligible Service Members (or their spouses) who purchase Disney 4-Day Military Promotional Tickets for admission to the Walt Disney World Resort for themselves and their family members and friends will be required to activate those Tickets at Walt Disney World theme park ticket windows, no later than Sept. 28, 2013, in order for those Tickets to be used. Valid military identification will be required. 100% Disabled Veterans with a United States Uniformed Services Identification Card (DD 1173), and Foreign Military stationed at a United States Base with a valid Common Access Card (CAC).
