Mike & Missy's Saying Goodbye to the Wonder 09/19/10 Pre-TR--Now a TR!--Updated 12/05

Glad eating at BBB worked out! I haven't done that before but its good to know that that option is always available! :goodvibes

I love walking around the ship at night. Most people are in their rooms or at the clubs and the kids are in bed. So peaceful and serene. Man I miss it!

It worked out great!!

I agree about the ship at night!! It's just so serene!!:lovestruc

We were up and at it bright and early this morning! It was Castaway Cay day and we really wanted to try and be off the ship as early as possible.

We managed to be up and ready around 7:30, so we headed on up to BBB for a quick bite of breakfast. I couldn’t believe that this was the first time we’d eaten breakfast here during this cruise!! Thankfully, we’d made it there before it got crowded, as we managed to make it through the line pretty quickly.

I think we were so excited about getting off the ship that we ate a little quicker than normal! Within no time we were done! So, we headed back down to the room to grab all our stuff before we made our way to the tender lobby.

Ashore time wasn’t until 8:30, but we arrived a little early in hopes of being one of the first off the ship. Normally the island is pretty full by the time we get off, but not this time. I think it was around 8:15 or so when they finally let us off! We were both excited about being here again as we had several things planned for our day!
DSC03288.jpg

DSC03289.jpg

First off, we headed over to Gil’s Fins and Boats to pick up our snorkel equipment. We had decided to do the Island Getaway Package that included snorkeling equipment rental, float/tube rental, and bicycle rentals for the day.

I’d read that for best visibility, that it was best to try and snorkel early in the day instead of waiting until the lagoon got crowded and all the sand got stirred up. We found a couple chairs close to the shore and stowed our stuff there, then headed to the lagoon. We ended up being the very first people in the water there! I was a little nervous about what we’d see, but excited too! I really wanted to try and find the sunken Mickey statue, so we made our way out. Unfortunately, even though I was having a great time, Mike was having a really hard time with getting his mask to seal around his mustache. Water kept seeping in which made it really difficult. We made it all the way out the lifeguard stand before we decided to turn around. I would have loved to keep going, but Mike had had enough. Before the trip, I had planned to buy a waterproof camera, just for this, but I never could find one at a decent price, and I ended up regretting it. We saw a ton of cool fish! And the water was beautiful, so I think I could have gotten some neat pictures. So, before our next cruise, a waterproof camera is a must on my to-do list!!

After our under-sea adventure, we thought we’d head over to the other side of the family beach and check out Pelican Plunge! Mike and I both love waterslides, so I was excited to try this for the first time!!
DSC03290.jpg

DSC03291.jpg

Again, I wished I’d had a waterproof camera! The slides were awesome! On our first time, when we got to the top, the lifeguard said that the enclosed slide was a bit faster and had a bit more “push” at the end. So, Mike decided to try it, while I went on the open one. He beat me to the bottom by a couple of seconds. Then we decided to go back and switch. I took the enclosed, and he took the open. The lifeguard wasn’t kidding about the enclosed being faster! And instead of just sliding off the end, you literally get dumped into the water!! It was a lot of fun, and definitely a cool addition to the island!!

Finally, we were ready for a little relaxation, so we decided to head over to Serenity Bay to spend some time there. But first, we had to make a stop by Castaway Air bar to pick up a couple Konk Koolers!

Frozen concoctions in hand, we made our way over to the beach and found a couple empty chairs! Now this is heaven!
DSC03293.jpg

I swear I don’t remember the water being this beautiful before. It was absolutely gorgeous!!

We relaxed on the beach for a little while before we decided to head out and enjoy the beautiful water and sunshine! As we were floating out, I noticed a dark spot in the sand. I asked Mike if he could tell what it was, and after a little further investigation, we’d found the coolest star fish! Again, I wish I’d had a camera!! It was the neatest thing!! Mike picked it up and we checked it out, but then he put it back in the water where he belonged! That was such a cool moment!!

By this time, we’d gotten pretty hungry, so we decided to pack up and head over to Cookie’s Too! Thankfully, it wasn’t very crowded at all, so we made our selections and found a table in the shade. I didn’t think to take pictures, but if I remember right, I had a cheeseburger (surprise!!), and Mike had ribs. It was a lot better than I remembered it being last year!! As we were sitting there, one of the trams came down the runway and was making the turn to drop people off there at the tram stop. But right as they were making the turn, we heard someone from the tram yell, “Oh my God!” Unfortunately, a gentleman in a wheelchair had been thrown off the tram when it made the turn. It was quite scary. Thankfully, it looked like he was okay. The tram was out of service for a few minutes, so they were sending golf carts down to transport people in the mean time.

We finished our lunch, then decided to hitch a ride down to the Bike Rental hut. I was really excited about going on the bike ride as I’d seen pics from podsnel’s report, and I couldn’t wait to see it for myself!! We signed the waiver, picked out a bike, and were on our way! Because we still had our bag with us, Mike got a bike that had the baby seat on the back so that he could strap our bag in and not worry about it as we rode. Right after we started out on our ride, a nice gentleman saw us taking pics of each other and asked if we wanted a pic of the two of us! Of course we did, and it was really nice of him to ask!!
DSC03296.jpg

It took me a few minutes to get used to riding since it had been so long. I was a little weebly and wobbly to say the least! We made it down the first part of the path to the observation tower, and headed to the top. The view from up there was pretty cool!
DSC03299.jpg

DSC03300.jpg

DSC03301.jpg

Seeing the undeveloped part of the island was really neat.
After that, we headed back towards the runway, and headed down towards Serenity Bay where we took a right on the trail that goes behind the cabanas. At the end, you come to another stopping point where the view is once again, gorgeous!
DSC03305.jpg

DSC03307.jpg

DSC03308.jpg

By that time, we were pretty hot and tired, so we headed back to return our bikes. I was really glad that we decided to take the ride! It was really neat and provided some cool views of the island!! We’re actually thinking about doing it again next time!

Once we were done at the Bike Rental hut, we decided to do a little shopping to see if there was anything we wanted. I did see a shirt that I liked, but I wasn’t crazy about the color, so I decided to pass.

Shopping done, we decided to head over to Cookie’s to grab a cup of the famous Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream that I’d read about in Lifelong Dreamer’s TR! She mentioned how yummy it was, so we had to try a bite. She was definitely right—that stuff was delish!!

After practically licking the cups, we finally made our way back towards the ship. It had been a great day on the island, and I was finally begging to “get it”. Before, I never really understood why everyone though CC was so great, and especially didn’t understand why anyone would want to stop their twice. Now I do—I totally get it—it may have taken me 4 times, but I totally understand now!!

It took you 4 times to get it?! LOL I super duper love that place!!

I'm all about buying an underwater camera the next time I cruise too. When we went on our honeymoon and I snorkeled at Trunk Bay I brought a waterproof bag to put my point-n-shoot camera in and the pictures came out horrible.

I can't believe that man fell off the tram! :scared1:

Your Castaway Cay pictures are gorgeous. The day there sounded absolutely perfect (except for the man who fell off the tram...yikes!). So good to hear the cookie dough ice cream has returned!

I just spent almost 2 hours reading this TR from start to (I hope not the end) now..... I want MORE!

We're going in April on the Dream with my DH and 2 DD's so can't wait.

Just out of curiosity (and because I want it too!), was the watch expensive (as in, over $100?) I know.... nosy New Yorker.

Keep it coming, cant wait to read the rest!

Hey Missy! I was cruising ;) the boards this morning and I saw your report. I haven't been on the Dis much lately thanks to school but I knew I had to take the time to read your report. :goodvibes Sounds like a lovely vacation!

I know, I know. I guess I'm just slower about getting things than most!

I wondered how well those camera bags would work. I thought about getting one, but with my luck it would have leaked and ruined my camera...LOL!

Thank you! It was an awesome day!

Hello, and thanks for joining! I'm just about to post another update, so no worries!

For the watch, it really wasn't expensive...at one time you could get it online, but I can't find it on there now. I want to say it was like $89.95.

Hi, Lessa! I haven't seen you around much lately, so it's great to see you here!! I hope all is well with school! Have you and your Mom made any new plans for another trip anytime soon?

Once back onboard, we were able to rest a little before getting ready for dinner. Tonight was Pirate Night, and we’d decided to dress up again. Before our cruise last year, we were able to find some really cute costumes, and we decided to use them again.

Since we were all dressed up, we had to make a stop in the atrium on our way to dinner to get a couple pics with our pals!

IMG_5313.jpg

There were lots of people out and about, but hardly no one was dressed up. I think Mike and I were one of only two other adults that we saw dressed up the entire time. We did get a lot of compliments as we were waiting in line though!!

After we’d pillaged with our Pirate friends, it was time to head on into Triton’s for dinner!
Somehow, I can’t seem to find any current Pirate Night menus online, so I’ll just have to go from memory with trying to remember what we had.
I know that I started off with the Pot Stickers, but I have no idea what it was that Mike had:
IMG_5314.jpg

IMG_5315.jpg

Unfortunately, I cannot remember the soup either, but we both had the same one:
IMG_5316.jpg

Next was the main course, and once again we both chose the same thing, which I *think* was The Black Pearl’s Oven-Roasted Beef Tenderloin:
IMG_5317.jpg

And lastly was dessert. Of course, I can’t remember either one of these, but I do think that I ended up going with pudding from the Kids’ menu:
IMG_5320.jpg

IMG_5321.jpg

We were finished with dinner and were out of there in no time. Other than maybe going to the Pirate Party, we really didn’t have any plans for the rest of the evening. So, we decided to head up to deck 9 to see what was going on up there. Nothing much was happening other than lots of CM’s getting everything prepared for the party.

Since there was nothing to see up top, we decided to head back down to the room for a little bit to kick our feet up before time for the party. Once we’d gotten comfortable in the room, we decided that we didn’t want to mess with going back out again, so we decided to call it a night and skip the party. So, Mike found Iron Man on TV and started watching it. A little while later our stateroom host came in to turn down the bed. We offered to step out while he did his thing, but he told us we were fine where we were. He left this cute little fella for us:
IMG_5327.jpg

Evidently, watching TV can make you really hungry, so we decided to call up Room Service once again! I think we ordered more from room service on this cruise than we did on our 7-night last year! We decided to change it up a little bit this time—Mike had the Steak sandwich and Mexican Tortilla soup, while I opted for the pizza!

IMG_5322.jpg

We ate while we watched more TV, then finally decided to tuck in for the night. Since the next day was at-sea, we didn’t even have to bother with setting a wake-up call!!

:cool1: Yay! I'm finally caught up with your TR!
I'm so glad you were able to get the King size bed room at Pop. Those were some awesome night pictures that you took. The hair in the bed was gross!
That is so cute that you named your weiner dogs Bo & Luke. I had the biggest crush on Bo Duke with a big poster of him on my wall!
I love your door decorations. And, I'm too jealous looking at ya'll chilling on Deck 9 on your arrival!
Mike is a great guy surprising you with the Mickey watch, I love it!
Those waterslides in the ocean look too cool:cool2:. I love waterslides too.

glad ya'll decided to dress up like pirates..:)

I can't wait till I can cruise more than 4 times so I can say...we are not doing any of the activities but just chill out on sea!!!!

but this first criuse is going to be jammed packed!!!

I hope we can take pics with Stitch the Pirate!!! and of course Mickey and Minnie Pirate!!!

and I'm going to order a ton of stuff off the menu...I'm going to look like a pig..

Yeah, I'm glad you're all caught up now!! I'm so enjoying your report!!

The waterslides were pretty cool! I can't wait to try the AquaDuck on the Dream next year...I think that's going to be pretty darn cool!

glad ya'll decided to dress up like pirates..:)

I was glad that we dressed up too, but I'm not sure if we'll do it again. There's just so few that actually do that it's just not as fun.

We did miss a lot more of the activities than I thought we would. Hopefully next year we'll be able to catch the Sailaway and Pirate Party. But then, sometimes you just have to slow down and relax!

Oh, don't worry you won't look like a pig...the servers love it when you order lots of stuff...I think they like to see people eat...I know ours did!

Because we hadn’t placed a wake-up call, or set the alarm, we were able to sleep in just a little this morning, which was quite nice. I think we finally woke up and started stirring a little after 8. The plan was to skip breakfast since we had an 11:00 reservation for Palo Brunch—since this was our first time trying it, we wanted to make sure that we’d have plenty of room!

Soon enough, we began to get ready for Brunch. I was so excited to be trying it for the first time, especially since I’d read so many good reviews here on the DIS! Around 10:45, we decided to head on up and check-in, but before we did a super nice CM offered to take our pic…
IMG_5346.jpg

We’d planned to try and meet up with Crystal so that we could eat together. Bless her heart, she had booked the trip for herself, her husband and little girl, but just a couple weeks before we set sail, her husband learned that he wasn’t going to be able to take the time off from work. I felt so bad for her, but she decided to go ahead and take her daughter for some Mommy-Daughter time, and I thought that was really sweet of her. And since she had made a brunch reservation for her and her DH, she was now going to be eating alone. So, of course I invited her to eat with us, and thankfully she was there checking in just as we walked in, so it worked out to be perfect timing. Crystal asked if we could be seated together, and they were very happy to let us do that.

With Brunch reservations being so popular, I figured that the restaurant would have been really crowded, but it wasn’t. We were lead to our table which was situated with our backs to the window. It was nice to be able to turn around and look out at the ocean!
IMG_5357.jpg

IMG_5358.jpg

Palo is such a beautiful restaurant!! We’d only been seated a few seconds when our waiter made his way over. Of course I can’t remember his name either! He asked if we’d been for brunch before, so we told them that two of us had not and the other had. He then asked us to follow him for the “grand tour”! He led us around to each station and told us what everything was, but I was totally lost by the first one!! There was so much food there; I wasn’t sure where to begin!
IMG_5347.jpg

IMG_5348.jpg

IMG_5349.jpg

IMG_5350.jpg

IMG_5351.jpg

IMG_5352.jpg

Everything looked so yummy!! He left us alone, and told us to take our time and get whatever we wanted!! I don’t even remember what all I piled on my plate! There was SO much to choose from. Mike was in heaven—he just loved having all that to choose from. As we were finishing our first plate, our server came over to see how we were doing and asked if there was anything that we wanted from the kitchen. I knew I wanted a flatbread, so I decided to go with one of those, with mushrooms. Crystal had the same except she wanted sausage instead of shrooms, and Mike decided to go with the Chicken Parm after the server highly recommended it!
IMG_5354.jpg

IMG_5355.jpg

IMG_5353.jpg

At first, I was a little skeptical about how a flatbread could really be that good, but boy was it!! It was so yummy and fresh tasting! I was really glad that I decided to order it. Crystal was impressed with hers as well, and Mike, well he was just in pure heaven!! By this point, he and I both were SO glad that we’d finally decided to try brunch as we’d been talking about it and talking about it, but never did it until now! Before we went back for dessert, our waiter kindly took a picture of the three of us to commemorate such an awesome meal!
IMG_5356.jpg

I ended up trying a couple different things from the dessert table, and which I don’t remember. I know that I tried the Tiramisu, and it was just okay. Before we finished up, Crystal had to run since she was being paged to pick up her daughter. I was really, really glad that we’d all been able to eat together! We took our time finishing up our meal, then took care of the tip before we headed out with some really full tummies! To say that Palo brunch is great is definitely an understatement—everyone should try it at least once!

Oh yum! My tummy is growling just thinking about Palo's brunch!

Hi, Lessa! I haven't seen you around much lately, so it's great to see you here!! I hope all is well with school! Have you and your Mom made any new plans for another trip anytime soon?

No plans as of yet, I am really eyeing the Med cruise. The price of the cruise itself isn't bad, it is just the expense of the flights that deters me. I'm also really interested to see if the Magic will be doing Eastern Med cruises in 2012, I might hold off for one of those. We'll see how things stand after Christmas.

WOW, Brunch looks good. Every other picture I have seen of the brunch includes the cold seafood and then the cheese table and only a few hot items. Your pics have definitely got me thinking I may want to try it on our 7 night. Thank you for sharing.

I feel like Pirate Night falls on the way side. Doesn't seem like anyone dresses up. Glad you did! :thumbsup2

So glad you didn't eat breakfast before your Palo brunch. So much food is an understatement! Glad you enjoyed it! :goodvibes

You guys look like you had a fabulous time at Palo Brunch. How awesome you were able to meet up and eat with Crystal.

IMG_5289.jpg

This is the tuna tartar (on the Animator's Palette menu). It's my very favorite (now). It was a dish they made in one of the Adult Enrichment events on one of my cruises, so I had to taste it...and fell in love!

Thanks for the photo of the room service pizza, it actually looks much better then the pizza at Pinocchio's.
