Migraine sufferers who take preventatives

At what point did you decide to take a preventative med rather than an abortive? I'm getting near that point right now. I've taken 6 AMerge in a week and a half.

When I went on medication, the doctor started me out on a preventative. I was having migraines at least once a day 4-6 days a week. I very happy with being able to prevent them altogether (99% of the time) rather thant having to start getting a migraine and then trying to abort it.
