those traveling were me, nicole, 25 and my fiancee, chris, 28. this was my 5th trip to WDW and DBF's 2nd, the last time he went, however, was before EPCOT opened. we carried a passporter with us at all times and it was great. that's how i'm able to remember enough to make trip reports even after we've been back for two weeks and survived the holidays. we stayed at the animal kingdom lodge for 6 nights.
this was our first day at the parks. we started out with a half day planned at MGM. we got there about 8:40 and were let in. the security check was no big deal, i was worried due to reports on the boards, especially at MGM. we gathered on hollywood blvd and heard the opening of the park announcement. i got super excited, after months of planning we were finally in a park!! the let down the ropes after asking everyone to walk not run, and we proceeded to rockin' roller coaster. we walked right into the pre show and then into the alley. we were among the first to ride, what a way to start the day!! we then moved on to Tower of terror and also went right to pre show and waited very little in the basement. DF really liked this one. at this point it was only 9:15. we then crossed the park to star tours, and the wait was short here as well, i am not a fan of this ride, i get motion sick. i took some bonine that morning to see if it would help, and it did not. then we walked over to the muppet 3-D. we were in pre show for what seemed like the length of the movie and then went in. we were sitting on the far right so we could not see the swedish chef but i do love this attraction. we made it right on the great movie ride after that. we did not have a very good gangster and that really affects the enjoyment of the ride, but it was still neat. there seemed to be a new "movie clips" movie at the end and i enjoyed it.
we had ps at prime time at 11:00 so we hit a couple of stores and went to the restaurant. our experience there was fun, the server was not to much into the act, but did have us say hi to all our cousins. i did notice you don't get as much attention as a couple. when i go with my sister's family we tend to get a little more attention because there are more of us. he did however have a family album on the table with personal pictures that DF thought was really neat. we had lunch coupons we bought from connections 123 and used them here.
we had the option of dessert or a milk shake so we each got a shake, me vanilla and DF peanut butter and jelly. we also each got and appetizer, so we orderd the trout dip, which was excellent and the fried boursin cheese that you spread on crustini drizzled in rasberry sauce, also very good. DF got salmon which he enjoyed and i got the opened face steak sandwhich, also good. all of this was included on our coupons. these coupons were $29.95 a piece and though i forgot to save my receipt for this particular meal, i think we got a good deal since that included tax and tip. being in the restaurant business i did leave a little extra tip.
after lunch we did the animation tour. it was o.k. i do like the robin william's movie part and then we moved on to a discussion forum with an animator. she drew a couple of character's from Lilo and Stich which they are working on now and i believe she said all the prodution is taking place at WDW. the small children in the tour were bored and were loud when we were with the animatior. if you have small kids you may want to leave this tour out. the walk through was alright, but we really didn't see anything all that exciting.
after the tour we hit the stores on hollywood blvd. a quick funny story, we saw a woman in a wheelchair digging through a pack of seven dwarves day of the week underwear. whe was counting to see if they were all there. then she was making sure they were all a size seven, when she looked like she probably needed a few sizes bigger than that, then she asked the poor CM if there was a place to try them on. i was just trying to imagine the woman in the dressing room trying on seven pairs of dwarf underwear.
we moved on to my favorite store, villians in vogue. i always know that a big hunk of my spending money will be spent there. i found a long sleeve maleficent shirt, a maleficent shot glass, perfect for me, a maleficent - loving bartender, and a villians beach towel, perfect for our home with the villians bathroom.
we had plans to make it to MK for the share the dream parade and had to go back to the hotel so BF could pick up "something" which i found out later was the engagment ring.(see MVMCP report)
the next time we were at MGM was our last day at the parks, and our half day was late efternon and evening. at check in at the AKL we made ps for 4:00 at mama melrose for the fantasmic dinner package.
we arrived at MGM to get a spot for the "stars and motor cars" parade. we went back by star tours so we could catch the begining of the parade. we stood in a little walkway right across from the Att-Att, and by a restaurant. we were at the very beginning of the parade, and watched the cars as they came out of the big double doors. the parade was great, the cars were neat. i enjoyed the star wars car, rolie poly olie and bear in the big blue house, along with the villians of course, and the little mermaid car.
after the parade we did the backlot tour, no wait, we saw some things form pearl harbor and my personal favorite, Doom's dip machine from Roger Rabbit. we moved on to One Man's Dream, i had been looking forward to this the whole trip. it was worth it. you are not allowed to take pictures, flash or no flash, but i would have loved to. there were models of walt's idea of the city of EPCOT, the castle in Paris and disneyland, the new hotel in disney sea, among others. his desk from grade school was there, MM memorabilia, his office, lots of facts and info. very much a highlight of my trip. we skiped the movie in order to make it to our ps at mama melrose. we couldn't use a meal coupon here and you have to order an entree for the fantasmic dinner package, so we each got a pizza, which were very good. i got a glass of wine and our total bill was $36.92. we walked around NY street and then went to fantasmic about 5:40 and got a good seat in our reserved section close to the middle on the third row. to me it's worth it to be close and get a good view but get wet. i love this show everytime i see it. and am always excited maleficent has such a great role. none of the pics i took came out good, most of them were pictures of mist.
after the show they invite everyone to the osbourne lights, the rest of the park is closed but the lights are open till 8:00. they have the houses of the backlot tour all lit up. it was fun to see the backlot tour and the lights in the same day to see the differnce. it was very beautifull and much in the spirit of the holidays. pics of this did not come out at all, i didn't use a flash and walgreens didn't even develope the pics, so i don't even know what they looked like. there was snow on NY street which was nice. it wasn't too crowded leaving but i was a little chilly after the misitng we got at fantasmic. we were very tired and ready to get back to the hotel.
