What would you do ?

Thrifty has a mid-size car for 9 days at 170.00. (Dodge Stratus)

I already have a luxury car for the same 9 days for 250.00.

Would you save the additional 70.00 dollars on the Stratus or keep the Luxury car at 250.00. The Luxury car is a Chrysler 300. I've always wanted to drive one.

Thoughts

Well, since it isn't MY $80 (check your math) I'd say go for it. Oh, and don't forget to add any taxes, etc when figuring the difference.

A rental car is a good way to try a car that you are considering buying. You get to use it for a longer period of time than a simple test drive. The trouble is, you can't count on getting the exact car you reserved. A "Dodge Stratus" might actually be a similar sized Ford or GM product. Same with the 300M.

If you have always wanted to drive the 300M and as long as the $80 price difference isn't a hardship, I say go for the 300M. A rental car is a great way to check out different types of cars.

Yep, even if it was my $80, i would say go for it. The "similar" luxury's would be Cadillac DTS, Lincolin Town Car or sometimes an import like a Hyundai Azera....

the only problem with that is what if that car is not there? We've rented cars many times that says.. grand am or similar, you get there and there is not one grand am to be found.. (not that we specifically wanted a grand am) just making a point.....

Keep the 300. I have a car reservation for that price, specifically requesting (thru my AAA travel agent), a Chrysler 300 also- to surprise my DH. She got it all set up but said that there's actually no guarantee it'll be a 300, just that class of car. I'm going to have her ( or me do it), check back with Hertz the week we go to re=specify the 300. And hope for the best.

I'd be highly supprised if this would happen (Not too many business travelers, first off in Orlando and second off renting from Thrifty/Dollar, most business travelers use either Hertz or National.). Also, if this did happen, they would probibly downgrade you to a premium class vehicle and downgrade your rate to a fullsize (usually the rule is the highest class, and you get comped the price of 2 classes below that)

Thanks for the input and the Math lesson.....lol

I think I'll stay with the Luxury car. Its a great rate and won't break me. The rate now is close to 400.00 dollars. I hope it is a Chrysler 300M, but the Cadillac DTS would be great as well.
