Mid-September Crowds

Due to having two kids in college at once, my wife and I have not made a trip of more than one day to UO in a long time (summer 2008). In the past, we always brought the kids for an extended weekend in mid-September. We found the parks virtually empty, particularly in 2002 - 2005 when we went right around 9/11. Is this still the case? We now live in GA and were thinking of spending a long weekend around our anniversary at PBH (maybe 9/13 - 9/17). We were also going to get new APs (our's expired in 2009) to see if it helped with the room rates, etc. Since we are only 4 hours away, the passes would definitely be used several more times each year.
