I will be buying a new computer and can't decide if it is worth getting Microsoft Office Home + student (includes word, excel and powerpoint) for $149 more, or Microsoft Works Suite 2006 (includes MS word 2002/Encarta 2006 + more) for $79 or just getting Microsoft Works 8, with no MS word, for no additional price. I woudn't be using for any company work, and didn't know if my kids who are only in 1st and 3rd grade would eventually need it.
Anyone have any insight on this?

I got the Office 2007 Student one (Word, Excel, PP, and OneNote - whatever the hell that does). I like Word a lot more than I did in the 2003 edition. :thumbsup2

I don't know what kind of budget you're on and wouldn't dream of telling you what to do. Just thought I'd give my opinion on the new Office. :)

I just bought the student edition a few months ago, and it included 3 loading of the program.

Get whatever has Word. People are always sending my wife Word documents - Mom's Club, Scouts, etc... and she could never read it, or modify and send back. Pony Up!

I agree. Get Word not Works. The student version is great. It's a shame that they took out Outlook.
