Mickey shaped beignets and bignet sundaes available at Port Orleans French Quarter

Wow, this is new! We just had beignets on Saturday and they were the regular ones! They were delicious but everything tastes better mickey-shaped!

Anyone have details? Are they the same price? Are they now the only beignets? Or can you get original ones too?

The photo I saw of them on the Food Blog was unappealing. They looked flat and doughy. Not airy. More like a cake doughnut than a beignet. But POFQ never really had beignets that were that great anyway. Nothing NOLA quality.

I agree. We stayed at POFQ for the first time this March, and we were looking forward to the beignets. We ordered them one am from a CM that was sarcastic about saying the name just right and giving us a dirty look. Sorry, I'm from way up North and don't apparently know the proper way to pronounce them. She went to the back and after a while came out with some sorry looking beignets. They were dry, tasteless, and covered with too much powdered sugar. It seemed like they were "old" ones, because surely these could not be the delicious ones a lot of people love. We were very disappointed and threw them away.
Maybe we got an "off" day for beignets, but we are one and done.

Bean-Yay, for those not sure of the pronunciation. And they should be drenched with powdered sugar. You never wear dark colors when you order true beignets. You have to get them fresh out of the oil. Otherwise they are tough. I haven't gotten good ones at POFQ, just NOLA.

Saw that on DFB. I had the old version. It wasn't bad, but not close to a true New Orleans beignet. Hope the new ones are better.

Well, she was apparently saying it wrong, LOL. She pronounced it, Bennie's! Like Ben and EEE's. I said Ben-Yay's, so I guess I was close. Doesn't mean anything in the scheme of things. I know they have a lot of powdered sugar on them, but this was excessive, even for "Bennies"................ Ours was not fresh out of anything, horrible. Too bad, we were looking forward to them.
