Mickey Pool and parents

This is probably a silly question, but here goes...

With all the talk of how crowed the mickey pool is are the parents allowed on the edge to make sure their kids don't get hurt by other children rough-housing? Or is it strictly children? I realize that parents would make it more crowded, just worried about my pettite girls getting knocked down by bigger kids.

I recall last year lots of mothers sitting at the end of the Mickey Pool in chairs watching over their kids. Some even sat in the pool or on the edge.

The "ears" of the Mickey Pool form two shallow pools that lots of younger kids (almost toddler) were splashing in and were they ever having a good time!

This is the greatest pool for smaller, younger kids. I don't think you have to worry but Yes! sit by the pool or even in the pool. They are going to have a great time.

I'll be sitting in the pool watching my 7 year old daughter.

My 7-year old daughter had no interest in the Mickey pool because it was too shallow for her and full of little kids. She only swam once on the first day at the Goofy pool with my husband. After that, the pools were just too crowded. The one time she did swim, we were either in the pool with her or in lounge chairs at the edge of the pool. Eventually she wanted out of the Goofy pool because too many kids were jumping all over everyone else.

I was in the mickey pool with my son some of the time, playing with him. We then sat and watched. If you get a spot right under the slide it seems to be a great spot to watch. Just don't hold your drink over the water, they frown upon that. You can also sit and dangle your feet. No worries.

That would be a very shallow pool for a 7 year old. My 4 year old was in it for awhile but she was not crazy about it since she couldn't swim around in there, all she could do was walk or sit. Its only 18 inches deep. One ear has water in it that is shallow and the other just has a fountain going for non-potty trained kids. I did sit on the edge of the pool along with lots of other moms though just to make sure it didn't get to rough for her since she is a bit on the small size for her age. We went in the Goofy pool once before it got really cloudy but there were so many kids jumping off the sides and playing ball in the pool it was to dangerous and we got out. I did love the adult pool, as soon as my daughter would go to the kids clubs I hit the rainforest room then the adult pool, it was heavenly! My daughter got to swim in Grand Cayman in the ocean and then at Castaway Cay so she really didn't mind not going in the pools on the ship. We stayed the night before in the Radisson and went in their beautiful pool and then when we got off the ship we were staying at Universals Royal Pacific and they have a very nice pool so she enjoyed those much more than those tiny ones on the ship.

My 3 and 4 year olds loved the Mickey Pool. I sat on the edge and watched. DD4 lost her footing once and fell face first into the pool. I lept into the pool, fully clothed to pick her up. I am sure I was a sight to behold.

One of us stayed in the baby ear with our 6 month old, and the other in the toddler ear with our 3 year old. No problem at all. The best time to be at the pool is while you are in port or at Castaway Cay. We always skip a port day so that we can enjoy the ship to ourselves. And we left Castaway Cay at 2pm to go back to the pools on the ship - I looked at the computer when the were logging us in and there were fewer than 100 people onboard the ship!

I dont encourage skipping ports and some Castaway Cay time for everyone, but for people with little kids it works great.

I had DD in the ear and I sat on the side with her. I had trouble keeping her in there though - she is a *swimmer* and wanted so much to go into the big girl pool.

I do fully recommend you watch the children in the Mickey pool. We had a small incident, and not to worry it wasnt a big issue, but I was pleased we were close.

Our son likes to investigate things and one day on the mickey pool, he somehow got one finger into a drain hole, it stuck, he pulled it back out and cut along the side of the finger all the way up.

The pool life guard saw this and gave first aid.

They told us if we complained they would have to close the pool an a lot of kids would be unhappy, so we decided not ot say anything, but asked them to check the pool was ok for other kids.

We were told the ship, ''flex's'' in the sea and this is how these things occur.

We kept an eye on is and the ships engineers did review it again the next day.

On the May 8th Western I had gone to the room to get a bandaid for my son (he cut his foot on the light in the Goofy pool) and apparently while I was gone, the Shutters photographer fell into the Goofy pool fully dressed, camera and all --hitting his head on the way down! The pictures he had taken of Dh and I on the pool edge never did show up in Shutters!

While the mickey pool was unbelievably crowded, the kids weren't roughhousing. There just is not enough room to handle all of the kids who want to go swimming on the days at sea. The problem is that they accidentally bump into each other while playing or just moving. I stood at the edge of the pool and it wasn't frowned on. I watch my son every single minute he is in the water.

My older dd will be 7 , but she is small for her age I know she will LOOOOVE the mickey slide, when we stayed at Poly and POR she ( and her sister) would go down the slide then back up in line again(for hours on end) so I'm not too worried about the depth, just didn't want them knocked around.

I thought there was a no jumping/diving rule? Are there no CMs around, or is the rule not enforced?

I'm hoping both of mine will be able to feel the same way:D

I didn't see any CM's around the area of the goofy pool when we were there and if they were they certainly were not stopping any kids from jumping in. I found that if I took my daughter tot he Mickey pool or Goofy pool at 7am we were pretty safe in there for a hour or so.....

I don't think that they should be allowed to play ball in the pool! Those little water balls hurt when they hit you! And who wants to be in the middle of that?!

But without DCL crew members patrolling and enforcing, it is left up to the parents and children themselves. I don't see a lot of parents telling the kids not to do these kinds of things. I know my kids spent very little time in the pools (only on embarkation day) and the reason was they were getting jumped on and knocked over (especially in the goofy pool) Clearly stated on all sides of the pool it says "NO JUMPING" but it seems that people on vacation suddenly forget how to read. Or they assume those ruled don't apply to them.

Also you don't see a lot of kids taking it upon themselves to stop the risky behavior b/c the parents have never stopped them in the past so they don't even realize their behaviors are not apporopriate.

ohiominnie- I agree with you 100%! I see it at my school all the time!! It's sad!! I don't know why a cm can't patrol the pool area! After all, it is a safety issue! I guess it will take someone to get really hurt!
