We were in the disney store yesterday buying our tickets for the next trip and I told the assistant that the kids didnt know so could she serve me discreetly.:goodvibes

She told me about the promotion they are running from tommorow and I thought id share it as its a lovely way to tell the kids.
The children will be able to wite a letter asking to go on holiday to DLRP or WDW and post the letter in store. The cms in store will then distract the child and Mickey mouse will appear with the childs letter and tell them their wish has come true and they are off on holiday.

Hope that helps someone as I think it wil be a lovely way to break the news. :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

However Im still standing firm on telling mine just 1 day before we go :woohoo::woohoo:

This sounds a lovely idea for the child/children it is intended for but can you imagine the chaos and amount of disappointed children there.

I wonder if Mickey will ignore all the other children in the store or will it turn into a meet and greet

I can also imagine a lot of children wanting to post a letter in once they've seen it happen and think Mickey is giving the holiday - as I say a lot of disappointed children

it is a properly shot video of mickey in the parks :)

Nice idea, but I agree with a PP and there will be many disappointed children in store if they write a letter and they're not actually going :( A lot of pressure on parents too!

we told ours when we dropped the car off at Gatwick. We had a completely normal morning - they got up at normal time and had their usual breakfast. It was a school day so i told them I'd put clothes out for them. They asked if it was a non uniform day so I said yes. Then we got in the car (loaded up the night before with all our cases) and said that they weren't actually going to school, we were taking them out. My eldest (then 7) thought we were going to London as she'd wanted to go to the Tower of London for her birthday a couple of weeks before. She saw the road signs and they all said London, she didn't seem to cotton on to the Gatwick part of the signs.

When we got to the off site parking we got them out and stood them on the path at the side and then unloaded the cases and wheeled them over to the children. DD looked very confused and I told them to look at the labels. Orlando she shouted, we're going to Orlando! Yes I said. DS (5 at the time) looked up and said - "am I going to school tomorrow?". When we said he'd be at Disney for his birthday he was a bit upset as it meant he wouldn't have the other children sing happy birthday to him in assembly! He soon cheered up when I told him he'd be having breakfast with Tigger that day instead.

Luckily, when he returned to school he got his happy birthday assembly so all was well!

Definitely precious memories for us.

Im plannin on doing that too....how are you gonnae tell them ??

Im lookin for inspiration.

Hi,
We are planning on playing a game of pictionary. Its something we do as a family quite often so wont seem out of the ordinary, during Dh go he will draw clues to say "We are Going to disneyworld!"

As soon as they have got the answer I have cards that I made on Moonpig for them all which explains we are leaving the next day and they are all adressed from their fav characters!!

I also have a goody bag for each of them which will double up as their trick or treat bags for Mnshhp.

Hopefully that makes sense to you.

Hi I was just asking today in the Disney store in Milton Keynes about park tickets, and the CM didn't mention anything like that! Maybe its just at certain stores? :confused3
I also agree MM would be mobbed! And that would just be by me and DD for a start! ;)

Claire :)

I assume it would be a video of Mickey rather than the Mouse in person, so to speak? A bit like the message from 'Santa' at the North Pole? Or the video you could 'make' at WDW with your name on everything? It would be great to be able to make one online and then show the kids at home - come on Disney, that would be great!

It would be so great to be able to choose a character, put in your child's name and age and have the character 'reveal' the surprise.:goodvibes

definitely something you will never forget :cloud9:

The cast have badges on in store saying (tell me if you are going to Disney ) it is not open to everyone . Then the child or adult will fill out an envelope . fantastic !! Had this done in the Belfast store .

OMG I'm filling up:sad:The way in which our children have been surprised is so special. We did this last year too, we managed to keep it from them until the morning we were leaving, it was priceless. We are trying to do the same for next year now, but they're a little older and wiser, and are constantly looking for clues, so the ways in which others have done it is very helpful:thumbsup2

it IS a video message - i watched the dvd this morning :)
