After a hectic couple of weeks at work I was looking forward to a holiday but at the same time I didn't feel that I had cleared up enough at work to be 'ready' for it.
I was up at 7:00 and after a wash and shave I did the last bits of packing ready to leave at 8:30. As it turned out the cab was half an hour early so we were on the road by 8:00 and at the airport by 9:15. There was nobody at bag drop so we soon said goodbye to our luggage and were through security fairly quickly as well.
We stopped off to get a bottle of water each and then into Pret a Manger for something to eat. After eating we took it in turns to wander round the terminal before sitting down to wait for the gate to open. As we were waiting we recognised Marcus, the Head of Terminals from the Inside Gatwick documentary series, wandering around seemingly trying to blend in with the passengers as he was carrying bags and wasn't wearing his security pass.
At 11:40 we spotted on the screens that we needed to go to gate 19 so we made our way down there and boarding began half an hour later. We took up our usual seats - 80H and 80K at the back of the upstairs section and enjoyed our pre-departure drinks.
Push back was about 5 minutes early and after a short taxi we were soon airborne. After takeoff we had a whisky and ginger each before lunch, which was supposed to be a choice of chicken breast or beef chilli but they had run out of the chicken by the time they got to us so we both had beef. During the flight I watched Attack the Block and Kung Fu Panda 2 on the inflight entertainment, followed by Planes, Trains & Automobiles and Ferris Bueller's Day Off on my iPad.
We landed at about 5:05 and were soon being seen by an Immigration Officer, which is where I got caught out. He asked me for the exact address of where we were staying and all I knew off the top of my head was that it was Boardwalk Villas and the road name was something like N Epcot Resorts Boulevard. There was nothing on the online check-in confirmation that I had printed out but luckily the officer looked it up for me and was happy, but it is something people should bear in mind for future visits.
We then picked up our bags and after waiting in a short queue at the Alamo desk we went over to the garage and picked out a Toyota Corrolla that (we thought at the time) would be our carriage for the next 2 weeks. We were on the road by 6:15 and passed under the arch at 6:38, so for anyone wanting to work out timings plan on about an hour and a half from landing to arriving on property - a little less if you are not collecting a hire car.
We were soon checked in at Boardwalk Villas where we were allocated room 5001 and we were more than happy with our home for the next two weeks.
After Dad had done his unpacking we wandered round to the International Gateway at EPCOT where we bought two annual passes and picked up our tickets for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party for the following Tuesday. From there it was back to the Boardwalk Inn where we went into the Belle Vue Lounge for a drink.
After our drink we went back upstairs so I could do my unpacking and there was a chance to see Illuminations from our balcony for the first time.
We were in bed by 10:00 ready for our first full day tomorrow.
