So...for the first time in our household the other day...we got a fish...well two. Actually..it was the first time we have EVER had a pet in our house...EVER. A swordtail fish...and a Mickey Mouse fish...

See the Mickey on his tail? Yeah, well our Mickey symbol was even darker and more pronounced...we named him Mickey...obviously. Well to me...he always looked sad and kinda lost. I mean, how would you feel if you were taken away from everything you knew and thrown into solitary confinement with one other strange fish of a different species? It's awful enough. Then our water is kinda sucky...I guess it smells funny (according to my mom)...

Well, despite my promises to myself that I wouldn't...I got attached to this little fish...

And now...he's dead. Mom found him floating on the top of the tank, and then he pummeled to the bottom right in front of her eyes.

What a terrible watery grave...suddenly not being able to breath, or being so depressed or traumatized...dying alone in a fish tank surrounded by big huge people.

Poor Mickey...and now that he's dead...I'm sad. The first loss of our first pet so quickly. I can't even say that he lived a good life, because it was so short and so full of changing locations...

Poor poor Mickey..not to mention the Disney connotations...

Death sucks and now I'm very sad. :sad1:

So anyways...this is dead serious and it's over a stupid fish...sigh.

It doesn't help that my little brother (11) doesn't get it (the seriousness of the loss of anything's life) and thinks it's kinda funny and just wants to get another one...but it's not his fault...he's still young.

So...loss of pet tales anyone? Or just words of comfort for poor Mickey?

awww im sorry and isent a 11 a little old for that

He's 11 AND a boy...think about it for a minute, haha.

And thanks guys... :guilty:

Awww, poor little Mickey! May he rest in peace in fish heaven!

You scared me so badly when I saw the name of the thread. I am very sorry about Mickey. R.I.P. Mickey

Well, last night was Operation Rescue Josh...(the other fish we have...a swordtail fish).

He was in the same icky, smelly fish tank as Mickey, and he started to look pretty sick himself. He was even swimming around looking for Mickey after we hadda take him outta the tank...isn't that so sad!? So then my parents put him in an empty cool whip container with water...I proceeded to flip out and say how he was gonna die b/c he couldn't see anything and was gonna totally wig out. So then mom and I put him in a vase with water and a lil food. The problem is that it is kinda too small...but it's the best i can do for now for poor Josh. He is just lying on the bottom of the vase right now looking quite ill. My dad is now treating the tank with some MORE chemicals (WHAT??? According to the guy at the pet store...grrr)...and we're going to have to put poor Josh back. I swear, if he dies too...I'm gonna be pretty traumatized.

Update too: About my little brother laughing...apparently my dad was making jokes, and he was laughing til tears ran down his face...and my mom told me (I was upstairs and just heard laughing, she saw it), that he was actually really crying b/c he was so upset but was covering it up with laughter...isn't that awful? This morning he is pretty reserved and quiet...I think it bothered him more than we thought...

Oh, I am so sorry! I've had 5 pets die already in my family. They were all birds. 2 Adult birds, amd 3 yound baby birds. This happens to everyone and although it hurts so much when they die you have to think about the good memories you had with that fish, dog, cat, bird, etc.

Lots of hugs and pixie dust!! :cloud9:

we had a fish who was the FATTEST fish probably in the history in fish.
we fed him the regular amount of food - but he was just so FAT! When he was a small little fishie and we picked him out - my mom said we can only get a fish IF we name him Jacque as in Jacque Coustau ( or however you spell it ) :rotfl2: but we had this fish who we were told would live up to 6 months lived for A FULL 2 YEARS WITH US!!!!

we had our little Nemo about 3 years ago and lived for about 6 months.
Did you ever realize you get kind of attached to fish?

lol

We had like 2 fishes (all gold fish) in the same tank and one day one disappeared and we didn't know where it went. So one fish ate another. :sad2: And it was really fat. It lasted like 2 or 3 years.

Sorry Ash, I had a lot of pets (Hurhit (sp?) crabs to hamspters). :grouphug:

So sorry to hear that. That happened to me one time too! Don't be to overupset by it though. Eventually everone has to go when their time comes. I will pray for your Mickey. Looks like it was a pretty cool fish. And I do feel bad for the fish, they lose the other fish they know.
