Has anyone had beignets from the Mint Julep Bar? Are they the "same" as the Cafe Orleans Mickey beignets?

I have only had the beignets from the Mint Julep bar. They are shaped like Mickey. They come in a white paper bag with a lot of powdered sugar in the bottom of the bag so you can shake the bag to coat the beignets. They were warm and delicious. I haven't tried the Cafe Orleans ones, but I heard you get a dipping sauce there so that would be different. I believe the Cafe Orleans beignets cost more than the ones at the Mint Julep bar. I rather suspect the beignets themselves taste the same, and I prefer the idea of no dipping sauce, but that added feature may be more important to others.

I didn't know that you can get the Mickey beignets at the Mint Julep Bar! Next time I'll have to get some, as usually when I'm having a meal at Cafe' Orleans, i'm too full for dessert

I'm really sad they changed from serving Fritters to Mickey Beignets at the Mint Julep Bar. That is my most vivid memory of trips to DL as a kid. My mom always had to get the Fritters and a Mint Julep. I always had the fruit punch drink they used to have, as I'm not a fan of mint flavored drinks.

I saw they were still serving Fritters at the Royal Street Veranda last trip, but every time I went to go try them, the line was huge. I am going to try them for sure later this month when I go. I hope they are the same!!

How big are the beignets? I don't think I've had them before... Are they the size of a doughnut? Or are they smaller, like a mini-doughnut?

Ralph Brennan's beignets are better and more authentic than the Mickey ones.

To answer the OP's question, the beignets at the Mint Julep Bar are the same as those being served at Cafe Orleans, with one exception. The beignets at Cafe Orleans come with a vanilla and a raspberry dipping sauces and those at the Mint Julep Bar come in a sack with powdered sugar.

I've also had them at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen and I'll agree that that the shape is more authentic, but I didn't really see any difference in the flavor. They were all very, very good.

One of my fondest memories of Disneyland as a kid was going to the mint julep bar and getting a fritter, so good! I am bummed they don't have them any more. I will probably have to try the beignets now, but may also have to try a fritter at Royal St. Veranda. I guess diet will not be in my vocabulary this trip. :rotfl2:
