Mickey and The Promise of Cheesy Dorito Fingers- Oct 2012 PTR Update 10/06

Thanks for joining in! I'd love to hear any tips you may have for POR! You mean that the busses have only stopped at POFQ once? were you there in slow or busy times? your surprise sounds so fun!

Sorry it took so long for me to answer you, I thought I already had actually. My experience was that it only stopped there once. Our first trip was the first week of August and crowds were 8&9. Then last year we went at Christmas which are the highest crowds of the year, they actually closed parks due to filling to capacity 2 days that week. Even coming back on a mostly empty bus in the afternoon for naps. Really don't worry about POR. It's lovely, so relaxing. It's a real respite from the parks. Fun games at the pool in the afternoon. Food is average. Lots of trees, the river, some wildlife.

I haven't finished shopping for our trip yet. I'll probably do it the week of us leaving. I have bought index cards to make itinerary cards for each day. And I found a small 5x7 scrapbook to glue them into. I decorated the front & it's really cute. Now, I won't have to worry about loose documents everywhere. I saw those Frog Toggs at Academy the other day. Do y'all take them into the park just to help with cooling off?

I did 2 sets of swimming lessons with Reid this summer. 1st set went well & he was sort of swimming. The 2nd set, he didn't care for his teacher & I think he regressed. We'll be trying that again in the spring.

Congrats on a lower rate! The autograph books/bags are darling. Soccer sounds like fun for the kids! I'm going to have to google Frog Toggs because I have no idea what that is?

a frog togg is just a piece of fabric with some crystals inside... once you wet it it stays cool for a long time. i've never tried one before, but have many occasions i could use it at home so figured why not. it gets pretty good reviews.

that sounds a lot like what i did last trip. i took a 4 X 6 cheapy photo album and slid all my papers in the pages. i found a flat one at the dollar store i think.

reid's lessons sound like mayas when she was that age. she did great the first set, then refused to get in the pool the next set. we took a year off after that one. this year, maya did great. james just climbed in and out of the pool and refused to get near his instructor. then, with like 6 minutes left in the last lesson he wanted to jump in and kick

I love the autograph books and matching holders, they are too cute! :cutie:

thanks! i can't wait to give them to them... 3 weeks and one day from now we will be arriving!

so, i mentioned that i have requested disney gift cards for birthday, etc... well i never thought about the fact that the website and store are programmed to not allow you to buy a gift card with a gift card. have any of you ever consolidated gift cards? if so, how? right now, i have 11 gift cards ranging from $15 to $50 and that is a lot of purse space LOL.

Pretty sure you cannot. And you won't want to put them on your KTTW card unless you know you will use it all. Otherwise any remaining balance goes back on the cards and you have to match the right amounts to the right cards.

i almost don't know how to handle it i'm so excited.

i'll tell ya, it has been easy enough to keep this a secret until recently and now it is not at all.

1) its hard to pull things for packing without them noticing

2) i had to make up a trip to a hotel so that i had something that i could use against them in cases of bad behavior- like i normally would with the trip LOL

3) i can't have them count down with me. its so hard not to say in 2 weeks we will be at mnsshp and will be dancing with woody and jessie (or whatever)

i really hope that they dont' want to be surprised next time!!!!

my Crystal Palace morning was one that is now opening at 8am, so i think i'm going to cancel that one.

i worked really hard on my paperwork last week for the trip- i procrastinated on it for sure. and then my computer crashed and didn't save it. annoyed the mess out of me because it is set to automatically save every few minutes. so i'm trying to find the time to redo it now.

my minutes are alternating with extreme stress and extreme elation.

oh- and by the way....

12 Days!!!!!!!!

I cancelled an 8:10 am res on Tuesday the 8th this morning. You may not arrive until after that though. Its the one that is duplicated with my res on the 9th that I got so lucky with!

SINGLE DIGIT DANCE!

As I told some people on facebook, i tried to get James to do the single digit dance with me this morning, but he looked at me as if i was crazy. Imagine that! Of course, he'd still look at me that way, even if he knew why we were dancing:lmao:

I put in for a mail stop this morning. And i picked up some snacks at Target this weekend.

its getting so very close.

I'm trying to rework my TP with the earlier openings and the fact that some of the characters are about to move, some may be in soft opening, etc. for some reason it is throwing me off.

i guess i'm just going to go with the standard surprise- i'm still not coming up with anything creative about it. i asked Chris what to do and he was like- what do you mean- isnt' telling them we are going a surprise. uh- yeah- a BORING- one!

So i guess what we will do will be go to pick her up early from school. Chris and James will walk in there to get her. Meanwhile, i will stick a big plastic tote next to her door on the sidewalk. it will be closed, but will have their names on it. and when they open it, they will see the mickey head balloons float out and they each will have a note saying surprise!
I'll stand behind the car with earplugs and a camera!

Can't wait to hear how the surprise goes!! I couldn't do it! I know my weakness! :rotfl:

]so this morning, we were running a little behind and in a rush to get to school on time. I turned to Maya and i said how about we just skip school and go to Disney instead.

Do you know what she said?

She said no.

what?

I asked her why, and she said she didn't want to miss school because I'd go to jail. (here the law is that they can send the parent to jail if they miss X number of days unexcused- we are no where near it- i think it is 30+ or something like that. we have missed zero. thinking back, i may have not fully explained that in a keeping that to myself in case i ever need a bargaining chip sort of way.)

oh, not the reaction i was hoping for... hope this isn't a sign of the response to come!

I can't believe you've kept it a secret. That would be amazingly hard for me. But I'm very happy for you to be so close (and me too!!)

The packing is going to kill me. Glad we are driving because there is no way we would be able to do anything as elborate as we are doing.

Getting close!
I've been following your PTR all summer, but just haven't had much time to post. We've had a couple of major family health problems-(thankfully not in our house though!), but sadly brother-in-law just passed away, so needless to say, nobody has really been in the "talk-about-Disney/Orlando mode" for the past few months.
Number one son and I DID make our Universal Studios trip in July and enjoyed the Despicale Me grand opening, so we did get that portion of our Orlando fix. Heck, we even managed to sneak over to the south side and dined with the Mouse and friends at Chef Mickeys and spent two days at DTD/Disney Quest. It was hot and pretty crowded, but we managed.
Looks like y'all are just about set to go trick-or-treating with Goofy and the crew, and I know everyone will have a blast-we sure did last fall...can't wait to do it again. Have fun! :thumbsup2

....BTW...our Halloween trip last year was a surprise trip too...took the kids to the Houston airport and told them I was meeting a "customer" there!...then tried to convince them the "customer" was gonna hafta meet us in Florida. Couldn't pull that part off though.

surprise trips add a whole new element to the planning. i prefer when they know, myself. but i have to admit i'm proud to have pulled it off so far.
sorry for the rough times you had recently. i'm glad you got to spend a little time there though!
thanks for keeping up with me!

packing. ugghh. i dont wnat to talk about it:rotfl:

oh, i can't believe i forgot to mention this-
we were talking through our ADR's the other day to make sure we definitely wanted to cancel the Crystal Palace.

so we got on the subject of food and wine. Chris started going on and on about the wrist gift card. and how he was going to put $200 on it. i was like, don' t you think that it a bit excessive, we will use snack credits towards a lot of it, etc. well, he got down right defensive. "look, i want to try almost everything and whomever said money can't buy happiness had never been to a place with food and wine booths"

i'm just so excited to have something he loves at Disney!

LOL @ Chris' comment. DH will probably be the same way re: F&W booths. I think he is planning to use a park day to go over there while DS and I are at our Monther/Son MNSSHP day just for F&W. It will mean he can't come with us on Sunday before we leave unless he wants to upgrade for an 8th day.

The $ add up fast at the F&W. He's got the right idea, lol. We were there this weekend and Tuesday night. I very strongly suggest doing the booths on a weekday or weekday night. On Friday and Monday (Epcot's B-day) the booths were all about 50 people deep of a line. We went Tuesday night and there might have been a handful of people in front of us at the busiest booths.

its not too much to add another day.... just a few bucks between 7 & 8! a small price to pay to make a dh want to come back in my mind :rotfl2:

I'm almost embarrassed, but between the 4 of us, we have over 40 items on our F&W list. i'm sure we may decide against some for wahtever reasons in the eat of the moment, and its lunch and dinner and snack, but still.....

I am sure it does add up quick. i'm thankful we will have some snack credits to use for the more expensive items! we will be there one week from today, stuffing our faces with hopefully light crowds!
