Day 5, Tue 6 Feb

Weather starts to warm up today and the sun comes out, hurrah! Breakfast at villa but we are not early enough to miss the traffic, so we encounter long queues at the TTC for the monorail. We walked straight on before (at 8am) so the lines are a bit of a surprise! We eventually arrive at MK at 9.45, tut tut! The boys are dressed as pirates today and get lots of catcalls of "Ahoy There!" and "AArgh!"

Captain Hook is missing a vital accessory - his hook!! I forgot to pack it. So first stop is the Emporium to rectify this mistake. We also rent a locker as we have brought fleeces and extra clothes as we plan to stay for the evening.

First stop is Adventureland as we hadn't really explored this area on Saturday.

We head straight for the Pirates of the Caribbean ride and walk on.

The new additions are very effective and we all enjoy this one. As we exit the ride and extricate the boys from the shop, we see the Pirates Tutorial is about to start. Mack is setting up his cart and indulging in some pirate banter, and he is soon joined by Captain Jack Sparrow! A very convincing lookalike, ladies! As DS1 is dressed as the man himself, he gets picked to do some sword fighting with Jack and Mack (cue camera batteries dying!) We are all named new recruits and the kids are given cool certificates. Jack dashes offstage, presumably so that he doesn't get mobbed by his fans!

We then make our way to the Haunted Mansion, which is good spooky fun. This one is a walk-on too, although it must be 11ish. Fantasyland is next, the boys want to go on It's A Small World Again but DH can't face it so I go on with DS2 and DH and DS1 go on Snow White instead. We get FPs for Peter Pan, showing a 50 min wait, and decide to have an early lunch. We have pizza in the Pinocchio Village Haus, which is surprisingly good, and a lot quieter experience than our lunch at Columbia Harbour House on Saturday. Go early, people!

I then take the boys on Peter Pan while DH goes off to hunt down FastPasses. We agree to meet at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlour. As we walk towards Main Street, we see a horse drawn tram, so we have a ride on that down Main St! It is getting warm and the sun is coming out so we put our coats in the locker. We then get our ice creams and sit in the sun in a little garden near Tomorrowland to eat them. A very indulgent interlude!

We then head back to Adventureland and go on Pirates again, maybe a 5 min wait this time. We then experience the rather mad Enchanted Tiki Room show and then the Jungle Cruise, which at 30 mins is the longest wait of the day. Some of the rides are not operating their FastPass machines, so we have no option here. It was a fun ride on the boat though, we all had a good laugh.

It is now 2.30pm so we go back to the hub to get a spot to watch the parade, which we all enjoy. The castle is sparkling in the sun and everywhere looks more vibrant somehow.

After the parade we go to Tomorrowland. Buzz is showing a wait of 30 mins but we join the line anyway, and it is actually only 10 mins wait. By the time we come out though, the queue has lengthened considerably. DH and DS1 go on Space Mountain while DS2 and I have a ride on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, this is such a cute ride. We then go and see the Carousel of Progress, hmmm a bit odd but a nice sit down.

At 4.30 we walk over to the Castle Stage and see the 'Dream Along with Mickey Show', which has loads of characters in including Peter Pan and Captain Hook. It is all about the power of dreams and how they can come true.

We have a 5.10pm ADR for dinner at the Liberty Tree Tavern. We enjoy our meal of salad, roast meats and stuffing with mash and green beans. The boys enjoy meeting Goofy, Minnie, Chip, Dale and especially Pluto (DS2's favourite!). The characters' and servers' costumes are very elegant and there is a nice atmosphere in the restaurant.

It is dark and much cooler when we come out of the restaurant. The park looks really pretty with all the twinkling lights. We walk round to the locker where the boys change out of their costumes and put on warmer clothes. We then find a spot near the Main St station to watch Spectromagic at 7pm. This is just magical and truly spectacular. All the lights go out as the parade passes by and there is a great atmosphere of anticipation and surpressed excitement.

After the parade we walk back up Main St and find a place in front of Crystal Palace to watch Wishes! We spread our blanket on the floor and drink hot chocolate, just enjoying the atmosphere. Wishes! starts at 8pm and again all the light are dimmed. The fireworks are so fantastic, we are awestruck!

We then experience the crush of closing time at MK. The boys are tired so we don't feel inclined to linger. We catch the ferry back to the TTC and then walk back to the car, arriving just before 9pm. We realise then that we have left our bag of things in the locker! Ooops! We decide to sort it out another day as getting home is the priority.

Next up: a rest day at Blizzard Beach, dinner at Boma.

What a fantastic day at the magic kingdom. Hope you get your bag back from the locker easily.

really enjoying you reports Michelle, great stuff!

A magical MK day. I thought your son could not fail to be picked for the pirate tutorial with that costume! The Liberty Tree tavern sounds good too - another place we are planning for September!
