MGM/Disney Quest

We got up to go to MGM before it regularly opened at 7:30(resort perk). We had a ps for Hollywood and Vine, but decided we were “buffeted out”. We ate some breakfast bars I brought along to hold us over and went straight to the Tower of Terror. Did I mention the crowds were really low this week? The ride was a thrill as the “elevator” drops, then ascends, then drops a few times. The building is open in the direction you face, so you can see the entire park as you drop and scream! The ride is based on the theme of a Disney Channel movie (I forget the TV name). We rode this ride 3 times during the day (our 2nd favorite ride here). Next, we went to the Rockin Roller Coaster. A fun, but loud rollercoaster in the dark (reminded me of space mountain). I’m not an Aerosmith fan, but it was a must go on ride. We rode this ride 4 times! Then we decided to finally eat breakfast (it was only 10am) and we had a decent one at the ABC Something (starts with a C), on the other side of The Sci-Fi drive in. We saw just about everything except skipped the Millionare attraction (starts every hour) and missed Doug, Beauty, and Big Blue house shows. The only fast track we used was for the Indiana Jones attraction, as the crowds were pretty light. The little Mermaid show was neat- the used blacklights and large puppets-different from the other Disney shows (The sea-witch scared some little ones, so consider this before going in). The Drew Carey sound stage was totally in the dark, so please don’t take your kids who are afraid (one poor little girl screamed to be let out and her parents made her sit through it until a CM politely asked them to leave.) I unfortunately forgot about Fantasmic (how could I forget???) and we missed that also.
Linner (as my kids call lunch and dinner combined) was at the Sci-Fi drive in. Some have criticized the restaurant to be mediocre food, but if you stick to the burgers, it was great! The older kids remembered it from 8 years ago (hasn’t changed) and the little one got a big kick out of the corny thriller movie previews. Very quiet atmosphere and you sit in cars facing forward toward the screen like a real drive in! The kids were given full size frisbees as a souvenir. We went to the Indiana Jones show after eating, which was exciting. Really neat stunts including fire and such.
Since we seemed to have done everything we wanted , we shopped a little and went back to the Poly for a swim. Then, we decided to try the Disney Quest.
With all of the stuff going on at the parks, don’t be upset if you miss the Quest, as it was nothing spectacular. There was mostly video arcade games and a few virtual reality things to do, but the wait was long for them. The Buzz lightyear bumper cars had a height requirement of 51” (taller than most little kids interested in Buzz) for no good reason that I could see. The older kids did them and said it was pretty boring for them. The virtual Jungle Cruise was neat, as you sit in a big raft that moves and you paddle virtually through rapids. Alladins Carpet ride was fun also and both did not have height requirements. There was video arcade games galore. My only complaint was that many were violent involving killing and guns (as in most arcades). We finally had enough and walked around outside before catching the bus back. We couldn’t find ice-cream that late, but found churros and a store that sold candied and caramel apples-Yummy!
While hubby and kids went to sleep, I stayed up until 2am doing laundry. Very costly-$2wash, $2 dry and had to drag four loads across the resort. But, my idea was to pack lighter and rewear clothes for cruise.Just wish the resort had laundry on each side of resort or could transport me with a cart (lol).
Tomorrow we would be leaving for Port Canaveral. Please see Cruiseline Trip Reports Board for the rest of our trip……….

Thanks for the report.

Tower of Terror is based on one of the episodes from The Twilight Zone.

Yes, it was, but also Disney made a movie (for television) starring Jeff Goldblume based on it too. It has aired on the Disney Channel in the last year. My son says it is also called "The Tower of Terror" or something similar.:D
