MGM Backlot Tour?

Does anyone know why they have discontinued they tour of the residential area? It was always a favorite of mine to see the Golden Girls house. I miss it...

When I last took the tour they were about to change things...including the house you mentioned...

I wonder if this may have to do with the Disney-MGM Split.

I experienced this on my last trip too, and I believe they basically wanted to make room for other things (including Lights, Moteur, Action! Stunt Show)

My understanding is that they tore down the backlot area and put in the arena/theater for the stunt show.

Let me get this right.. they took away the entire ride? I loved when the water came rushing down the hill at the train... I was so excited and told Dbf all about it.. it's his first trip to WDW this coming weekend!!

No the ride is still there, the Golden Girls house and the Empty Nest house...those are gone. It's just a little shorter I guess...although with the tour guide we had last time, it sure didn't seem shorter

We went on the Backlot Tour in May. I have to tell you that I was very disappointed. I guess that I'm one of those people who doesn't like change. Catastrophe Canyon was still there and the part when people participate in making the movie (naval ship, etc) was still part of it, but it seemed to be lacking. The TV houses were taken down to make room for the Stunt Show area. I think if they are going to continue the Backlot Tour, Disney might consider bringing in new (discarded movie and TV) items to view from the tram. The tour guide we had seemed to be bored with the whole thing - barely making an effort to talk to the passengers. As Emeril says, they should "kick it up a notch!"

The tour doesn't go through the residential area any more because there is no residential area any more! It's now the area where Lights, Motors, Action! is staged.

Very weird to walk around that area now. Very disorienting. But LMA! is a cool show, so it's worth losing a small bit of the tour (even though it was pretty cool, too).

I thought this ride had really suffered from the encroachment of the stunt show stadium on its real estate. Now it seemed as though the whole thing was made up of the water canyon, the preliminary Pearl Harbor show, views into costuming departments, and drives around the scaffolding for the stadium bleachers. I think they really need to add something back to this.

The backlot tour is hardly worth taking anymore. I liked the residental street but I enjoy the stunt show more.

That's sad, because the houses are history, whereas the stunt show is pretty dumb... No offense, but a bunch of cars performing stunts has nothing to do with Disney AT ALL. Plus Disney Studios already has a Stunt Show...lets not forget Indy.

We hadn't done the Backlot Tour in years. Much like Indy, it needed some serious updating. Unfortunately, the updating took away things rather than added and I don't see any need to do this on our next trip in June.

Also unfortunate is that they got rid of these residential streets for the Lights, Motors, Action Stunt Show which is poor, in my opinion. Another one I don't need to see again. MGM was once my favorite park, but not anymore.

We were there in July and after the ride I asked and they said the homes and the backlot as we remember is gone forever due to the stunt show. The tour is also very lame as it is short and besides the canyon stop it lasts about 5 minutes. The homes were a special thing on the tour. I was telling my daughter about the homes and were excitied to see them and they were gone. Just have pictures left to remember.

Wasn't Herbie the Love Bug back there too?? Is he gone? With the new movie I would think he would be left. Can you still walk around the New York city street buildings or something

I was a little disappointed in the backlot tour too on my past trip. Catastrophe Canyon is still fun, but the rest of the tour seemed kinda...lacking. I hope they decide to revamp it!

The best part though was that DM and I volunteered to be in the naval ship scene! So much fun wearing big huge boots that were like 8 sizes too big for me!
