The offer and incentives were way too good to pass up! We are now officially DVC owners! :dance3: And we were given 16 additional Fast passes to use at the parks! What a fine time to be pregnant since the only FP rides i'm able to go on are Soarin' and Roger Rabbit LOL

Yay for you guys! I was going ask which resort, but I see that now! Can I ask how many points you got? You won't regret it! Just think, now you can book CL at 11 months!

I was waiting for you to post! When we went to check in, they asked if anyone referred us and we said no. Not even thinking. HOWEVER, when we left the tour later that day, I said, Oh crap! I should have put Alison as the referral! So when we went back to sign, the lady that gave us our paperwork asked us again, if anyone had referred us and I said YES! I wasn't sure who's name it was under but I put yours and I still had your phone number so hopefully the referral goes through.

We bought 140 but are given 160 points for the life of our contract. We were even given an additional 160 points for the year 2011 (not sure if they do it for all inquiring first timers) so the incentives were great!

Now to just figure out how to use these points! You'd be the best person to ask this question....we weren't 'planning' on taking a WDW trip until January 2014 which means something needs to happen with 2011 points since it can't be banked that far into the future. We were thinking, just thinking since we know the probability is slim to none, of booking GCV in August during the week?? Is that completely crazy to even consider? I know that Cars Land opens up in June and that will affect availability, but figured I should just ask instead of sitting here wondering...

Thanks for the referral, you're the first one who has referred me AND purchased!

So what is your UY? That's also important in how you can use your points. What I would do is call Member Services at 6AM our time tomorrow. You can have two waitlists going at any one time. I would put in for a waitlist for a one bedroom when you want to go that expires 7 days before you want to go. One bedrooms are easier to get than studios, just don't pick August 12, I'm trying for that date, but I can't waitlist it because my two waitlists are tied up with Carsland opening day! :rotfl2:

Also that weekend of the 10-12 is Destination D so lots of people won't be giving up their reservations.

Also get yourself registered to use the website. Online booking rules. So your 160 points will be good through the rest of this year, and your 2012 points will need to be banked into 2013 four months before your UY ends. I'm guessing that you probably have an April UY, so November. In that case, you can use your banked 2012 points, 2013 allocation, and if you want borrow from 2014 for your Jan 2014 trip. However, if you stay this summer, I highly doubt you'll have any of your points left by then, you'll want to use them all at the VGC! I predict by 2014 you'll want to add on! :lmao:

CONGRATULATIONS!!! :cool1:

Alison's totally right, you won't regret it, it is a fantastic investment. Can I ask where you got the cute emblem? I've seen people with them and haven't been able to find them, AKV is one of my Homes also.

Every time I've checked for VGC this summer everything is sold out. But they did announce a few weeks ago that they are opening up some regular hotel rooms to book with points but they haven't shown up on the website to book, they might only be available for call-ins at the moment.

Everything depends on your use year. You might have to bank your 2011 points and use them in 2012, and if you don't think you'll be able to use both year's points at once you can bank your 2012 points into 2013. The flexibility of DVC is amazing.

You should come over and check out my TR :)

Our UY is December. Our tour guide/contract booker told us that our points expire July 31 of this year, so we either had to bank them by that time or use them somewhere. I tried registering online, but we haven't received our activation code in the mail yet. I'm guessing since it's only been a week we may not get it until next week, cause it says it takes two weeks to get to our house.

We were actually looking at one bedrooms anyway so that would work. However, we need to have a back up plan in case this falls through. Have you ever booked hotels with RCI? We were thinking about heading up North (where to? I don't know!) like Oregon or something. What do you think?

CONGRATULATIONS!!! :cool1:

Welcome Home!

Jill in CO

Thanks Jill:goodvibes

Congrats!!! I love my DVC. We are going to Aulani in July and I can't wait. Have fun with it!

Awesome! DH and I would LOVE to go to Hawaii someday. Do you mind me asking, what did you pay for plane tickets? We looked up random dates when we would be able to go in a few years (during January) and tickets were about $650-675 per person. Is that right??

Woo hoo! Congratulations! Just think of all those FUN family vacations ahead of you :cutie::love:

Thank you! Super excited about this investment!

OK, Dec UY, yeah so you need to book something through Nov 30 of this year or bank them by July 31. If you bank the points you can use them any time between Dec 2012 - Nov 30, 2012. That's why I suggested you call MS. You can book VGC anywhere up to Nov. 11 of this year (7 months). You might think about your pre Thanksgiving trip. MS can tell you if there is any availability between now and 7 months.

You will feel so luxurious in a one bedroom! The jacuzzi tub, all the space, the two bathrooms, the washer and dryer. I can't wait for you to stay there!

Congratulations, how exciting!! Those are very attractive incentives too..I wish I could get DH to go for DVC. I working on him LOL.

Congratulations on your DVC purchase :cool1:

We bought into DVC last year and it was just soooooo exciting when we finally did it

Just think of all the amazing family trips you have to look forward to :goodvibes

Congrats on becoming a DVC member. We had looked into a couple of months ago.

WOW!!

I wish I was a member, what sort of incentive did they offer you? Maybe I should sigh up for a meeting this coming november. Are you a member in Cali of the world?

EDIT: So I guess I should have finished reading, but can you tell me more about it, in a PM if you don't want to put numbers up here. I have always thought of buying in, more as a late since we seem to be going every 1-2 years now. Should have bought in back in 2004 like I wanted before the stock market crashed ::sigh::

Recently, yes.. it has been very expensive to go to Hawaii. There are low seasonal months to go like May, Sept or October. January through April are pretty popular because one the snow birds want to get away from winter and 2 it is whale season. Also, the summer holidays and school breaks are also expensive times to fly. Somethings you can do to lower cost of air flights are to fly during the week and not a FRI, SAT or SUN. If you can fly Alaskan Airlines they have a credit card where they give you a coupon for buy one flight and get one free. The card is about $75 a year but totally worth it for the free flight. We mostly use points to fly. I have the American Express Starwood card. We own on Maui at Starwood so, we go yearly if not twice a year. Anyways, my dh owns his own business so we make a lot of work purchases on the card and get points that way. I know the average person can't rack up as many points as we can but it is helpful to start earning them. So, definitely sign up for frequent flyer miles on whatever airline you fly. We love Hawaii and have been going forever. It is one of those vacation spots where you go and do nothing. My kids even look forward to it where you just hang out on the beach, snorkel and watch sunsets. Sometimes other vacations are just too much go-go-go. Good luck.. If I think of anything else. I'll let you know.

Congrats on buying DVC! We've considered it but haven't taken the plunge yet. DH would love AKV though, so maybe in the future!

I was considering the pre Thanksgiving trip, but DH wants to go somewhere in the Summer. Last night, he kept looking online at the Intrawest Resorts in Palm Desert and San Francisco. The only way we could do VGC during August is if he gets the new job that's available here in Tulare. He turned in his application and is waiting for the call back for an interview. If he gets it, that means his Summer is extended by about 2 1/2 weeks. If not, he goes back to work on July 27, so no VGC for us.

Congratulations, how exciting!! Those are very attractive incentives too..I wish I could get DH to go for DVC. I working on him LOL.

Thank you! The funny thing is, I didn't push DH whatsoever, to make this purchase. We've been thinking about DVC for a long time, but always thought it was going to be too much of a dent in our pocketbook each month. Turns out, we were pretty wrong. Perhaps a DVC tour is something you two should do together when you're in WDW one day. Will give him an idea of how flexible it can be, plus you'll probably get some FP's out of it :thumbsup2

Congratulations on your DVC purchase :cool1:

Thank you! We are both very excited that we did it. DH moreso I think...he talks about it all the time when he gets home like, "Okay, we really need to start planning our trips now." etc. :goodvibes

The incentive that was offered was giving us an additional 160 points for the year 2011. The other incentive was only paying for 140 point contract but getting 160 points for the life of the contract. Or you could do 100 points and get 110 or 120 point contract, etc, etc. It was a great offer, IMO.

They need a down payment (10%) of the contract (a little under $20,000) and you're able to finance the loan for 10 years. After the 10 years are up on the loan, you just pay for maintenance fees, which comes out to about $1,000 a year.

Wow, sometimes twice a year?! That would be nice. You must rack up some major points with the cards. I have a Southwest card (was able to get 2 free roundtrip flights last year) so we've been using the card for every purchase we make including paying bills so we can get points to go to WDW or PA to visit my grandmother, but it seems like it's taking forever!

Congrats on buying DVC! We've considered it but haven't taken the plunge yet. DH would love AKV though, so maybe in the future!

Thank you! We both have always wanted to stay at AKL, so now we're thrilled that we get to call it 'home' :lovestruc

I forgot to address your RCI question. From what I have heard (never did the RCI trade myself), the hotels are hit and miss. Some are as nice as DVC most are not. Also RCI trades take time and patience. You need to put in the request a year or more and cross your fingers it cones through.

I don't know anything about Intrawest, but the general consensus on DVC is you get the best value at DVC resorts. For the cruises, i could spend over three weeks in a one bedroom at WDW for what it would coat for two on a MR cruise. I couldn't have even used points for the cruise i booked because they don't offer it for what we reserved.

Look at what they are charging in points and compare it to the DVC charts. If you are in a use em or lose em situation that's different, but you have a year and seven months to use them so just think about what kind of value you get for what you pay. Even though they're points, it still is money. Think of them as being worth about $10pp and that might change your outlook.

I'm glad you guys are playing the miles game. That's how we fly free! And yeah having your own business helps build expenses. Right now we're on our way to buy a refrigerator and a gas stove. Owning apartments is a good way to build up miles quick! :rotfl:

Hi Lesha! That's so exciting about you guys buying DVC!! :yay: My family have been members since 2002 and I love staying at the resorts :cloud9:

I'm so jealous that you got to go to Disneyland again! :wizard:
And that bag of extra toiletries from mouse-keeping would have been my best birthday present :cutie: (I still have a few of the bottles from the Dream and Grand Floridian from last year!)

Hope you're having a good week,

We were doing research last night on some of the hotels through Intrawest and a lot of them looked pretty nice with good reviews and they are all within driving distance. I was just telling DH that it would be better for us to use these points towards Disney resorts. I also told him this wouldn't be very difficult if we had tons of air miles available to us, but that's just not the case. And not just that, now it's trying to find the time to be able to go. He can't take time off of work, so the only times we would be able to go to WDW are : During Easter, During Summer (ugh, i'm not sure if I want to go through that again..that was just miserable), Thanksgiving week, Christmas vacation, and our ideal time would be the first two weeks in January (if he gets this job). I wish we could go this January actually but not sure.

Okay, so with all the trips this year for you, are you or have you already, bought the premier pass for unlimited use to WDW and DLR? And what delivery service did you say you used for WDW? Now you got me thinking of adding up the numbers to see if it would be possible to go in January...BAD ALISON! :rotfl: ....oh, also this kid kinda ruins it for us ;) of course i'm joking but wondering if we did go in January, do we take the baby or not...

Hi Emma! Wow your family has been members for a while! Are you and your DH ever going to get your own contract someday? Don't you just love the toiletries? While browsing the shop at the Grand Californian, I went to price the shampoo (since it's fantastic and great smelling) and holy cow! I think like $16-18 for one bottle! No way. So I was THRILLED when I go this baggie of goodies!

Yeah I just realised my parents have been members for 10 years now! :goodvibes I'm an associate on their membership, but one day it would be nice to have our own too, one day, although they are always so generous and let DH & I use points whenever we ask!
Whenever there's a big euro-millions jackpot here, and we're day-dreaming about what we'd do with the money if we won... DH says he'd buy his soccer team, and I say I'd buy the maximum number of DVC points we could!

I love the H2O range they had on the cruise... at the Grand Floridian, I put a couple of bottles in my suitcase, and the next day the housekeeper replaced those with loads more! :cutie:
