Mexican Riviera cruise for honeymoon, new to cruising

Hey Everyone,

I am in the process of planning the first phase of our honeymoon for September. We are going to be going to WDW in December (phase 2), but wanted to do something right after the wedding for a proper honeymoon. I told my fiance that its going to be just a cheap getaway, but I plan on surprising her.

My current plan was to fly out to San Diego, and have her think that is the destination. After a few days, I will surprise her with the 7-night Disney Cruise to the Mexican Riviera. I would probably prefer the Caribbean, but the dates dont line up as easy, and it would be much more difficult to surprise her if we fly to Orlando.

My questions for you fine folks that know more about all of this than I:
Are these locations in Mexico safe?
Should I be concerned about hurricanes? I don't really care if ports get changed, but I would be sad if the cruise turned into a turbulent and rainy mess.

Is there anything else I should be concerned about?

The Zika virus, if you plan to start a family anytime soon. The CDC recommends women wait 8 weeks and men wait 6 months after traveling to an infected area.

We will be on the Sept 24th cruise from San Diego! It definitely is hurricane season, however for the most part cruise ships have the ability to sail around hurricanes. Sure, you may miss a port or go to a different one, or you may end up with all sea days (I really doubt that but suppose it could happen). Hurricanes usually move through pretty quickly and are not the monsters the east coast has. Disney would not go to a port that they think would be dangerous. We've been to Cabo and Puerta Vallarta in 2014 and had a great time at both, never felt anything but perfectly safe. Mazatlan will be a new one for us and I don't think Disney has gone there in years. Do some research and if you don't feel like it's a good idea, stay on the ship and enjoy the atmosphere.

We will also be on this cruise. I never really gave much thought about hurricanes.
Disney does a good job of navigating through rough waters. Cabo will be fine. I know
Puerta Vallarta had some problems but they must have cleared them up. Mazatlan i
don't hear much about.

Well... There is always the side-effect my aunt and uncle had on their honeymoon.

They did a cruise and she was seasick the whole time. Got back and she stayed seasick for a couple of weeks. Went to the doctor finally and he said "Um, you are NOT seasick..."

Ok I like that idea. I honestly couldnt care less if the ship never went to port. I am doing the cruise for the cruise and not so much for the ports. Have you ever had experience with a ship rocking a lot with the weather?

Ok I like that idea. I honestly couldnt care less if the ship never went to port. I am doing the cruise for the cruise and not so much for the ports. Have you ever had experience with a ship rocking a lot with the weather?

I guess the most movement we had was heading from LA up to San Fran, we had a pretty good rock going but nothing dangerous or anything. There were some people missing from dinner and the hallways were a little hard to navigate without brushing the walls but it was generally pretty fun, honestly.

We're on the same cruise.

Hurricanes (I think they are typhoons in the Pacific, right?) are very rare in that part of the Pacific. Things have been kooky the last few years with the El Nino's and the "blob" so ocean temps have been really warm, but normally that part of the Pacific is too cold to have much storm development. It's not impossible, but it's nothing like the Atlantic hurricane season.

The ports are safe. We know people who drive down the Baja peninsula all the time for long weekends and such.

What are your plans for San Diego? It's a vacation destination all on its own. And of course there is Disneyland close by as well.

My son and his soon to be wife (3 weeks away) are flying into Los Angeles for a few days then driving to San Diego after a couple days there, they will be boarding The Wonder for a 5 night Baja cruise to end their honeymoon on a relaxing note.
They are most excited about Palo brunch and a few dinners hopefully.

*** I just wanted to mention, they signed up for the Disney Fairytale Honeymoon registry and they have gotten a nice about of gifts that family and friends gave to her for the bridal shower. Just something to consider for you guys if you're considering Disney in anyway
