Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Kathy, That was a quick decision!! :goodvibes We had never stayed at a value until our last trip with an overnight at ASM. We'll be doing one night there again in Oct. I thought the room was great! The pool looked nice, the only thing I didn't like was the food court. The food we had was fine, but that place is a madhouse.

Mary, I was feeling better, I'm a little more achy today. I think I overdid it in the pool yesterday. Also hurt my ankle while swimming:confused3 . I do think the injection is helping some. I'm having less pain, but the numbness & weakness hasn't subsided.

Peggy, Right now they are thinking it's going to come in north of the city. Let's hope they are right. I know you've had enough of Faye & would like to see that sucker move on!

We are really frustrated with Disney right now. They have scaled way back on F&W events for our upcoming trip. Of course big name chefs like Cat Cora will be there the week after us.:sad2:

Thanks Peggy! Are you or anyone else here familiar with the Sports Complex area, that's where they'll be playing? We're trying to decide where to stay, it'll only be for 3 nights and we've never stayed at a value resort before, but probably that would be the best bet????

The All Star Resorts and Pop Century are both close to the Wide World of Sports area. The All Stars are much farther out for getting to the parks - it is a very long bus ride anywhere you are going other than the Sports Complex. Plus each All Star resort has their own small food court. They are all on the same bus route, so which ever one you get on or off at, you have to stop at all the other All Star resorts, too.

But..... my brother has played in WDW softball tournaments several times and all the teams have stayed at the All Star Resorts. The Wide World of Sports Complex has their own website: http://disneyworldsports.disney.go.com/dwws/en_US/home/home?name=HomePage&bhcp=1

We love Pop Century. It is close to the Sports Complex, too. They have one of the best resort food courts - it is huge. Plus they have their own buses so you don't have to stop anywhere else. And they are in a good location - much closer to get to the parks or anywhere else in the World. We are staying at Pop Century when we go in a few weeks. :woohoo:

Fingers crossed for you guys!

Thanks so much Peg for all the great info! I'm pretty sure that's where we'll end up.:thumbsup2

Forgot to mention before, if you are going to the Animal Kingdom - the All Star resorts are a great location! :wizard:

Here's a map to see the Sports Complex.
All Star Resorts are 26, 27, and 28 - Pop Century is 31 on the map

Louisiana plans official event announcement with Disney
Aug 21, 2008

Louisiana Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu will participate in a news conference with Disney representatives on September 10 to announce the state being a part of the 2008 Epcot Food and Wine Festival.

Louisiana is scheduled to be featured the week of October 19 - 25. Stacy Brown, the president of the Louisiana Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau, estimates that 1.3 million will be in attendance at the annual Disney event.

Lisa Johnson, the executive director of the Bossier Chamber of Commerce is expected to represent the state during the Food and Wine Festival.

Good morning guys.....Today would be my Mom's birthday so I'll be heading to the cemetary on my way to the gym. Mom's birthday always leads into Katrina so I may be a little out of touch for the next week or so.

Hello all!

So sorry ive been off the boards this week, its been crazy! Jack started school and I started a new job that came on quite suddenly.

Kathy... hope you had a good day, I cant imagine how hard this was for you today! to you!

We have had a bad week with Mr. Jack. He was rotten everyday this week at school, yelled at the teacher, slapped a cpl of kids ( the teacher said she understood because the kids in question were being bad too, but he needs to learn control DUHH??!!) , disrupted class, would not do class work etc.
He is such an angel with us and any time he has spent with our friends, Im so confused . Everyone I talk to who knows him doesnt understand.. no one has ever seen him act like this.
Today we get a call from the Principal.. she wants to place him in first grade??!! She tested him today and discovered he is prob on a second grade level in reading and language.

I have spent this last week trying to decide if I need to home school or keep him at his school. So much confusion!! Im getting ready to yank him out and homeschool, I should have went my gut in the first place and not listened to anyone but Lori LOL.

Three more weeks till vacation, I think we need it!

Thanks Jenny, I think God blessed me today by sending Kyle home with his baseball schedule. I got right into planning our March trip and it occupied me for the day.

Maybe Jack needs to be put in a higher grade, I just hate to see a child rushed into higher learning. I'm not much help on the subject but I will pray that everything works out for you.

I havent gone back a page yet.. yes I know its rude, but Im just freakin out on the whole Jack thing LOL!

SO from what im getting Kyle will be in WDW at some time soon?
Let me go back and read.

LOL on top of all the Jack stress, I just get a call from one of my cousins.. he has a new daughter we didnt know about here in Baton Rouge. She turns a year tomorrow!
woo Auntie is going shopping!

Jenny, So sorry to hear Jack has had a rough week. After meeting Jack, I am totally not surprised that he tested at a higher grade level! He's probably bored to tears! Bob spent a little more time talking with him last year than I did. (while us girls were getting to know each other, shopping & drinking!) After our get-together, Bob commented that he thought Jack was extremely bright! I am suprised he had trouble with his behavior, that little man was as good as gold, putting up with our chatty, partying peeps! :goodvibes

Awww its so sweet that Bob thought that!
Yup we do think our boy is bright, but im not so sure ready for first grade... but I guess ive been out voted lol!
He has never acted up like this before i guess he is bored.

How are you feeling?

Hey y'all!

Well I finally got off of my butt and started packing today. I have to pack slowly and gradually- if I do it all at once I overthink everything and get stressed about it. :rotfl: I also went to Target to buy the last of the stuff we need for the trip with DD singing "Frere Jacques" all through the store (in French toddler babble, thank you very much :snooty: ). Good times, good times. Only 13 days left! :cool1:

Kathy- Wow, another trip! How awesome!! :dance3: Hopefully it will take your mind off of things.

Hey lucas! :wave2: Thanks for the map! Since we're doing a split stay, it is good to see where POR and CBR are in relation to each other. We're driving, and DH and I both have terrible sense of direction. Yep, we'd even get lost on Disney property even with all of those signs around.:upsidedow

Jenny- I can imagine how nerve-wracking it must be with the school first reporting bad behavior from Jack and then wanting to move him up a grade. Maybe he is bored and therefore cutting up? :confused3 I will say that I understand your hesitation with the homeschooling in regards to the opinions of others- when I told a friend we were thinking of homeschooling Sienna, she looked at me like I had two heads and told me what a horrible idea that was, that DD would never be properly socialized and be weird, etc, etc. I can imagine that must be some of the reactions you've been getting too. But you gotta do what's best for your family- that is what matters the most. I hope it all works out.

I'm okay, doing a little better than usual, but not quite as good as the past couple of days.

I wouldn't want to sway your decision about school though. I really believe Mom knows best! If I were you, I'd have to have a very long, long discussion with the Principal before making a decision. And I'd probably go with my gut feeling on it.

Lorie... Talk to Lori, she will tell you how great it is! I just need to get my stuff together and ignore everyone else lol!

Well this fall we start applying and campaigning to get Sienna into one of the charter schools. If she doesn't get in, then we will seriously start thinking about homeschooling. I may be talking to Lori plenty then!

Hey ladies. Jenny and Kathy I am sorry yall are having rough weeks!

If anyone is interested in taking the cake decorating classes or know anyone who is interested, I will be at Michael's in Harahan from 10am-4:30pm doing class demonstrations...feel free to stop by and see what I do and what you can learn to do.

Good morning all.. off to do a bit of shopping today. Ive got to get some new things for our trip in
TWO WEEKS AND FIVE DAYS LOL!

I managed to get through the summer with only three pairs of shorts , but i think I need more than that for the trip.
I have a feeling we will be changing clothes be prob twice a day with all the sweating that will be happening LOL!

Hey Kathy .. We stayed at Pop last yr for one night. It was fine, nothing fancy, fun to look at all the crazy decorations.
I didnt quite now what to expect , so I was a little put off on HOW FAR you had to park away from rooms etc. Im a bell hop , valet kinda girl when it comes to staying at hotels so it was kinda a surprise for me lol. I was also surprised at the amount of people they packed into those places ... the food courts were crazy!
Also the buses were NUTS so I would never stay there with out a car.
The food court was actually pretty good and from what Ive read Its the nicest of all the values.

With all that being said , I dont hate the values, I just wasnt expecting how BIG the areas were and how tiny the rooms were lol. It was clean and neat and exactly what we needed for a bargain. We are staying at All star Music
this time around, I was told they just finished updating all the rooms last yr. All the others its been about 3 yr since updates.
I do wish we were going to be back at Fort Wilderness this yr , but Ill save that for 2010!
