About 6 months into chemo, we did the organic milk, eggs, cheese(only b/c she loved it and ate it often). Then a few months later, we started doing all natural meats from Whole Foods. The organic kind was just too pricey and the guidelines to be officially "organic' are harder for farmers to attain-so natural is no seroids or. antibiotics given to the cows and chickens and whatnot. To be "organic" the animals have to eat organic as well, plus have no extras. I made a monthly trip to Whole foods and loaded up on all our meat. I rarely bought veggies there b/c we just get frozen.
We also made waffles, buscuits, pancakes, etc.. from scratch, using unbleached organic flour, ground flaxseed, soy flour and some other grains all mixed up. I used a lot of ground up nuts too. Fish is wonderful with ground up pecans-baked or paneed. She also took and still takes a veggie/enzyme and Vit C, and acidophilus. In the past 2 years we have dwindled down to few natural meats(it just killed our budget, but do not regret the extra spent money), and still do organic milk and natural eggs or fresh eggs(mostly from a friend who has chickens and only feeds them veggies and whatever the feed is). I have just started to implement some of our old ways b/c we got so far off of them. Back to whole grain breads and making my own muffins and pancakes(I am gonna miss the easy jiffy and Martha White muffin mix!!). Ironically, I have always mixed Smart Balance with butter. I mean, margarine is horrible for cancer and butter is horrible for your heart-what gives?!!! I am happy that Smart Balance now does the mixin' for me! Good oils are grapeseed and olive(the darkest-1st cold pressed), and even coconut oil.
Right now our diet is very typical of the modern American family- easy foods, some fast food(not much), and about 3-4 nice dinners per week. Ham sandwiches and PB&J. Pizza and chicken nuggets. We wing the rest.
SO I am feeling the pull to eat healthier! Thankfully, Ashton had gotten used to eating semi healthy and hates fast food and either wants Subway or makes me cook!
