Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Morning everyone!

Speaking of...
I just realized that next year's MG (when we want to go) s the week of President's day...Do yall think we should still aim for that week? I heard it can be really crowded, and we will be paying peak season rates, whereas if we wait 2-3 weeks we can get value rates(I think), but we risk running into Spring Break and we will only get to go for 6-7 days instead of 7-8 days...any thoughts?

Mrs. K - Check the calendar again. Pres. Day & MG were a day apart for 2008. If I'm looking correctly @ my 2009 calendar, Pres. Day is Feb 16th (the 3rd Monday), whereas MG is Feb 24 (the 4th Tuesday). The week of President's Day will be slammed (reason for Peak rates), but as the weekend approaches, crowds should start tapering off. Of course, that's when 1/2 of LA will arrive to start their Mardi Gras trip!

Depending on the resort you choose, I believe "regular" rates begin at the end of March, so MG will probably still fall in those Peak rates.

Give her something else to play with in her hands-like a deep pan/crawfish plate full of cornmeal or grits.Outside if possible!! Those huge crawfish plates come in very handy for gooey and messy materials. We still use them for the volcanoes. My kids STILL play with plah doh and clay. She can draw pictures or whatever in the grits. We even used it for learning letters-drew them in the grits/cornmeal.

Just my 2 cents advice to take or leave. Good luck!

My kids are taking SAT's this week. Haley told me she got everything right today! This can be REALLY great, or devastatingly BAD!!! But i thought it funny she came out of it and said this.
One more week of school after this!!

Lori

Lori, That is a great idea! Alexis is practicing writing now, but she gets frustrated so easily. That'll be a great way for her to practice. With summer break almost here, feel free to throw more of your "HS Pearls of Wisdom" my way! As of now, we haven't enrolled her in any sports or classes, so she'll be home with me ALL day during the break.

I had to giggle at Haley! Everything right, uh! When my DD said that, it was usually very bad news! ;) Let's hope with Haley it will be great news! :wizard:

Hey everyone, my computer had a virus or bug. My DH restored it, but disboards didn't recognize my name. It took my two kids to help me get back on here. Now I have to go back and catch up on the stuff I missed. Its been about 1 1/2 weeks since the "bug" thing happened. I hated not being able to "talk" with all of you.

I hope everyone has a good night:)

Mary

Mary, Welcome back!:goodvibes We were worried about you! So that's why we have kids! To help us with all the electronic mumbo jumbo!!!

Terry, :cool1: It's getting close for you!

Alexis & her Mom & Dad are going to DW very soon too! We decided not to go with them, I think I could use a Nana break before summer starts. I think they're leaving in 10/11 days. The day after Alexis's last day of school.

Well it was Language arts(not her favorite thing and also her weak point that i can see) so i am not expecting stellar outcome in this area. Hopefully she IS on target though. That is my wish for LA for her. She loves math so today we'll see what she says. I am actually sitting in a PJ's right now, having tea and Dis'ing without (much) guilt!!! I have LOADS of laundry at home but NEVER ever are w/out my kids, so i am taking advantage of it. Never done this before. Now i can put this smilie...:surfweb:

Weird!

Kinda' lonely actually:laughing:

Hope Alexis enjoys the grits. You can also use shaving cream-which cleans the top of a desk miraculously!! Write letters in the shaving cream or with the shaving cream. Not for Sienna YET though- NO eating shaving cream!! (DO not use the gel kind, it doesn't work as nicely)

Lori

We're back from our walk and trip to the playground, and it's getting warmer earlier and earlier! I complain about the cold, but I'm not ready for the summer heat either! And somthing else I noticed at the playground.... there are usually way more boys than girls at the playground. Sienna usually runs around with the boys there, it's rare that we see more than one or two girls. Are people just having more boys these days, or do girls just not go to the playground as much? :confused3 In our playgroup there are six boys and only two girls (one of those girls is Sienna). Just wondering...

The grits are a great idea, now you know after you were gone for a while we need a daily Sienna update.......

Well speaking of things we'll remember when she gets older, here's the Sienna snippet of the day:
DH bought her a miniature baby grand piano for her birthday (nah, she's not spoiled at all! ) and she loves to perform for us. She'll sit down for us, her audience, and "play" her piano and sing, then pause for applause after playing a minute or so. If we don't applaud her, she'll glare at us until we do. Then she'll continue playing, stop for applause, and repeat. When she's finished, she stands up and says "thank you and goodbye!". I don't know where she got this from, but it's downright hilarious and DH must get it on film because it will be great blackmail for her teenage years.

Terry- Only 26 days- wow! :cool1:

I think you are right. I think we are just going to go MG week. At least if it is Peak season the parks should be open later, right?

Yes I think I'll be seriously missing my quiet Dising time this summer. :surfweb: And doesn't it just seem like yesterday, when I was sad that she'd be in school for full day?! :confused3 Shaving cream! Oh I'll bet she would love that! Thanks for the tips!:goodvibes

I don't know about more boys than girls. Maybe it's a cyclical thing:confused3 , Alexis seems to have more girls than boys in her grade at school.

"thank you & goodbye!" :lmao: That is too cute! :cutie:

Enjoy your DIS time, because you'll soon be like me- All Alexis, all the time! The shaving cream sounds fun! I can't wait until Sienna gets old enough.

Maybe all of the girls are on the Westbank, and all of the boys are on the Eastbank. ;) I did read somewhere that more girls were being born these days, so who knows?

Kurt jr was the only boy all four days we were in the hospital, when he was born. When he went to daycare he was one of two boys in a class of 12.

:scared: Oh man! I'll hear "Hey Nana, You know what?" like 50,000 times a day! I'd better stock up on the ibuprofen now.

Lorie, Maybe because you're neighborhood hasn't fully repopulated yet, you're not seeing a true representation of boys vs girls.

Lorie, that is too funny:rotfl: I can picture her now looking like a little pop star

Lorie - I LOVE the Sienna snippet....:rotfl2: You have got to at least get a pic of her at the piano for me, please!!!!!:flower3:

Hey ya'll! Just jumping on quick to see what's up?

Playing with the new phones so I can figure out how to run them.

AIDEN CAN NOW ESCAPE HIS CRIB!!!!!:scared1:  :sad1:

Kurt jr didn't figure this out until he was 2 1/2!!!! So much for sleeping tonight!

Lorie-you need to write that one down!! How cute!

Haley told me again how she got everything right again today, then laughed. I am really not sure at all what to expect from these results-and it is gonna be hard to wait out the 6-8 weeks it takes to get them in!!! She had math and science today. She is good at math at home, so we'll see. I am POSITIVE she did not get everything right-goofy girl! But the fact she laughed about it this time just tells me that she doesnt want me to know anything!!! Sneaky little chic! She cracks us up! I asked her what she was daydreaming the other day about, and she told me, "You just have to know everything don't you?!!!" in a pretty prissy tone.:cutie:

How old is Aiden??? OMG, this must be a boy thing, possibly? My cousins kids cimbed out, mine never did this. They did other things to make up for it:laughing: . Good luck!!

One more day of testing. One more day of having a few hours to ME to do whatever. If I had more $$ this week I'd go get a massage!! I just bought next years curriculum. Next year I will plan better!! Pedicure on day 1, go with friends on day 2, massage on day 3!!

Lori

Sorry, I can't help, but if neccesary, I'll lend you my kid or hubby or even Alexis! She can already tell me which remote works what!

Stephanie, My DD was climbing out before 2. I think she was about 16 months! We had to move her to a big bed, even leaving the crib side down, she could fall.

Lori, You could always go for a quickie chair massage at Whole Foods. It's only a dollar a minute. And believe me 10 to 20 minutes can make a world of difference.

Good morning.

Sheryl, the "Nana, you know what" thing cracked me up:rotfl2: So she's a talker, huh?

We had to put my DD is a big girl bed before she was two also. I remember putting her down for her nap and about 15 minutes later I was doing dishes and I hear little footsteps and she just came into the kitchen like "ta-daaa", look what I can do.:lmao:

Maybe all of the girls are on the Westbank, and all of the boys are on the Eastbank. ;) I did read somewhere that more girls were being born these days, so who knows?
Nah, all the boys are here! On our street alone (about 20 houses), we've got 14 girls and 20 boys. Most of those girls are less than 5yo, while all but 3 of those boys are between the ages of 6 & 9!!! Can you imagine what our street looks like on any given afternoon??? Bikes, ripsticks, skateboards, pick-up baseball / basketball / football (or any combination thereof!) I'm not complaining, though; it really is fun. I'm just wondering what will happen when all those boys get their own set of wheels.....:scared1:

AIDEN CAN NOW ESCAPE HIS CRIB!!!!!:scared1:  :sad1:

So how did last night go? We moved DS1 to a big boy bed with side rails @ 18 mos in anticipation of DS2. DS2 was a climber from the beginning, so he was moved @ 18mos as well.

:scared: Oh man! I'll hear "Hey Nana, You know what?" like 50,000 times a day! I'd better stock up on the ibuprofen now.

Love the grits & shaving cream ideas! DSs did the shaving cream in day care - you could always tell those days because of the fragrance when you walked into the school.

Shovan - if you need some ideas (other than mini-Iron Chef competitions) to keep Alexis busy, try the Family Fun website. It's a magazine published by Disney, and I've seen some really cute, inexpensive project ideas on there.
