Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Just asking for prayers for my dog Sammie - here's what I posted earlier and just now:

Just when I think things can't get worse - they do. When I left for work this morning my dog Sammie was trembling. I called a friend to go and check on her for me mid-morning. She found her lying on the floor as stiff as a board and she'd thrown up. If any of you have a prayer to spare for my girl please do. My friend brought her to the vet and they are checking her out now. She's an old gal but I really need her to get through this.:sad1:

Just got back from the vet, they let me spend about an hour with her. They had to give her some valium because what happened this morning was a seizure and she'd already had another one by the time i got to the vet's office. The blood work showed some problems with her liver and her thyroid. Whether or not she can be treated depends on how this afternoon goes. If she continues to have seizures this afternoon, due to her age, they suggest we put her down. My heart is just breaking.:sad1:

Kathy, prayers being said for your precious Sammie. :grouphug:

I almost went the binky splitting route, then thought it best to just take them away completely. Like Alexis, I knew DD would just cry for a new one. She really isn't a "wean off" kind of girl I've found, it's best just to take away from her altogether. A whole week, huh? I sure hope it doesn't take that long- I won't survive! :faint:

I guess it was more like 5 nights. She still had trouble falling asleep after that. And then just when we thought she had it licked, she'd start asking for it again. We did it right about the same age as Sienna is now. Right around when she turned 2. We realized it was time for her to be off of it, since she actually could say " Nana, I NEEEED a new noonie!"

I just got a call from the vet and they want us to come and pick her up and bring her home because they don't want her left alone in the clinic overnight. She hasn't had another seizure so far, hopefully they will put me in touch with an emergency pet clinic should I need one. I can guarantee you Mom will be by her side all evening and all night. I'm really not sure what the prognosis is at this point but I want to thank you all for the prayers and good thoughts, keep them coming.:grouphug:

Kathy - for you and prayers too.

Not trying to put a damper on your efforts - but I took my daughter's away when she was a little over two. She then switched to sucking her thumb at night and did that until she was 11 or 12. Here's hoping you have much better luck than I.

Kathy, I hope this evening goes well! Our vet was Airline Animal Clinic, I hated going across the river, but they have a hospital there & staff at all hours. I'm not sure if they take emergency cases from other vets or not.

Prayers for y'all. :flower3:

OMG Kathy, prayers your way right now!!! I always am so nervous about my doxies backs after I think it was, Jenny's story a while back. I just love'em to pieces and know I'd feel sick if either of them were that sick. Sooo sorry you have to go through that right now, or anytime.

And Lorie, I wish you luck. Neither of my kids took to a binkie, BUT Haley still sucks her thumb when she is tired. Ashton never needed anything-thumb,fingers, binkie. We tried a binkie, but neither of them liked it. tried with Ashton ofr a few months-she spit it out constantly, so did Haley, and stuck that thumb in, from birth almost!! I guess with the thumb you have less control, but it doesn't bug me. Only b/c i sucked mine till i was old enough to know better!!!

Lori

Did anyone see Paula Deen's show yesterday? She was on with her brother Bubba who has a restaurant and they made chargrilled oysters. She mentioned Drago's in New Orleans!

Thinking of you Kathy!

Good luck Lorie. We had to take away Kurt's binkie at 4 months b/c he almost choked on it. Aiden has sucked him thunb since he was in the womb...I could feel it at night when I was still. My Aunt told her DD that the Easter Bunny took her binkie b/c they needed them for the baby bunnies. She now hates Easter, and this was 8 years ago.

Good morning everyone. Looks like Sammie had a stroke. She slept all night and when she tried to get up this morning only one side of her body cooperated with her. I helped her to stand and when she walks she's leaning to one side. She is slowly starting to do her normal everyday routine stuff and hasn't had any more seizures, thank God. The vet says we just need to take it one hour at a time and see what the day brings.:grouphug: to all for your kind words and prayers. I am whipped out - I stayed up all night and watched her sleep.:guilty:

Positive thoughts coming her way! Keep us posted and take care of yourself.

Kathy- I am praying for you and your special Sammie.

Kathy- I was thinking about you and Sammie and wondering how y'all were doing. Sending more positive thoughts your way.

Binky-gate is going better now. It took two hours for Sienna to fall asleep for her nap, but she did sleep for an hour. Then last night we had another discussion about the binky before bedtime- how he had to go work for another baby since he wasn't needed here anymore because she was a 2 year old big girl now, and she started crying and told me to "Go!" (she kicked me out of her room! :rotfl: ) BUT she went to sleep and stayed asleep all night! So hopefully things will keep improving!

Time to make my ADRs today!!! I still have to narrow down what we're doing. Here's the problem: DH does NOT believe in planning on vacations. He knows that ADRs are necessary but HATES having "appointments" and "somewhere he has to be" during vacation. He's agreed to three, maybe four ADRs at the very most. And of course, I want to eat at more TS then that. I'm thinking about booking four or five, and then cancel them as need be if he still doesn't want to keep them once we're there. It also depends on how DD acts while we're there- on our trip a year ago, she would not sit well during our TS meals and we had to cancel a few of them because we got so worn out with her. Hopefully she'll be better now that she's a little older. Ugh, decisions, decisions!

Morning Y'all,

Kathy, I am still praying for Sammie. Has the vet given her any meds? Keep a close eye on her. And rest yourself!

I'm not feeling great, started with a sore throat last night. And my fibro is really bothering me. But I have a haircut appt this afternoon that I can not miss! It's been 11 weeks since I've had a haircut. It's looking really ratty, so I'm going.

Lorie, That's really good news with the binky! Even if you were ordered out of her room!! Seriously, she is doing great. First with the sleeping in her own big girl bed & going to sleep the first night without the binky!!! That's like WOW!!! Alexis ended up crawling in her Mom & Dad's bed when the pacifier disappearred! So Sierra is really doing wonderful! Keep up the good work Mom!:thumbsup2

On the ADR's, I've been book everything we think we want to do! Then if it doesn't look like we are going to make it, I cancel them. I think I've booked Artist Point twice now & have cancelled.:confused3 August is probably a busy time, so I would go ahead & book all of the ones YOU want (not DH's).;)

Hope everyone has a good day.

Sheryl

She's on thyroid meds, prednisone and valium if needed. The vet said she'll probably never be the same again but she should regain most of her strength in a few weeks. Dogs are much more resilient than humans when it comes to rehabbing from a stroke. She needs lots of encouragement and attention and has to have my help when she tries to get up, so you know I won't be leaving her side for a while.

Hope you feel better.

Kathy, Just wondering how Sammie is doing today? I"m praying she can recover from this. How old is she?

She's 13. I don't want to speak prematurely but I think she's going to recover from this. She slept most of the day and she just walked outside to go potty and she seemed to be walking "just a little drunk" if YKWIM. She ate a little bit and she got semi-excited when she saw the mailman. I'm so afraid of another seizure I calmed her down right away. I know she has a long way to go but Mom will be helping her all the way.:goodvibes
