Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 09/2009

I'm so bummed out. We waited 1 1/2 hrs to try to cross the ferry in Gretna. We were told it would probably be several hours more to get across. The ferry only held 230 people at a time. There were literally thousands waiting.

Sheryl,
Were y'all in a vehicle or on foot?

Hey y'all!

Sienna is sick, so no parade for us! DH went but came home before the parade ever got to him because he said the crowds were so huge that he started to just get uncomfortable (about 150 people deep!) and he was freezing! I enjoyed watching it from home. ;) Sean Payton dancing on a float- priceless!

Mary, I hope you feel better!

I wanted to mention that if anyone is heading this way for Endymion, feel free to stop by to use the potty (the real one, not the driveway...:lmao:) or just to say hi! I don't have any parking available as my driveway has already been spoken for, but y'all are welcome to come by! We are going to have a full house, so the more, the merrier! PM me for my address.

How awesome is this?!?!

I posted some pics on FB from the parade. At 6:10 after seeing just two of the 10 floats we decided to call it quits. It was incredibly cold and the group I was with, we had enough. It was starting to get dark, and my pictures weren't coming out very well, and that was really why I had stayed for the parade. I was there with some people from work, while my family was watching it from the warmth of home. Traffic was still backed up everywhere trying to get into the city for the parade. It really was insane. Fun, but insane!!

Futhermore, I'm questioning BR's ability to throw a parade. Did y'all hear Pete Fountain's HalfFast Marching club was asked to leave a BR parade on Friday because they were moving too slowly???? :sad2:

:rotfl: :lmao:

Did ya'll see Drew on Letterman? And Baylen & Brittany after the segment was over? I have got to figure a way to arrange a marriage between Shelby & Baylen! lmao
:cool1: I want to come to THAT wedding! and welcome!! I am Kristina and I live in Metairie :D
I totally missed Drew last night on Letterman. I got home from work and went right to bed. Working yesterday after Sunday's game wore me out! Anyway I just wanted to stop by and say hello and introduce myself. I'm a Native New Orleanian living in Dallas. I'll be stopping by this thread  It'll be nice to talk to home folk!
welcome we are so glad to have you also!
Hey, it looks like I won't be able to make the parade tonight. I just got back from the Dr's office. I have a throat infection with a ear infection in my right ear. I'm glad I went today because he said it was spreading into my left ear too. I am going to stay home and try and get better for the weekend.
sorry you feel bad hon please let me know if there is anything I can do for you - hugs! hope you heal really quickly

thanks i will try not to pee on your lawn ;) I waved and called ya as I drove by your house on the way home from the parade this evening :D tell Todd sorry I lost coverage and couldnt call back to talk to ya:confused3
Living in Houma, I would love to experience a New Orleans parade, but I'm too scared lol
come to Metairie - must less crazy and more family oriented. we have a great spot with not too many people :)

Thanks for the well wishes.:) I am feeling a lot better today. Yesterday, I felt like my right jaw was going to explode. Thank God for antibiotics and tylenol.

Lorie, I hope Sienna feels better.

Cara, make sure you get your note:rotfl: from "Mom"!

I agree that Fox 8 had the best coverage. What a special night:goodvibes

Mary - So glad to hear you're feeling better!

Off to work, then gym then home to pack!!!:goodvibes

Kicking myself that I didn't get back here last night. I wish I would've thought to see if Fox8 was streaming. Furthermore, it never dawned on me that ESPN or NFL Network would've carried the whole thing live. :headache: I had instructions from DH to record the CST coverage (Cox sports TV), and it was actually worse than WWL's live streaming.

I was disappointed that WWL didn't have the Gallier Hall reviewing stands mic'ed. You couldn't hear any of the toasts. CST's, however? Let me just be nice and say they need to stick to football / basketball / baseball coverage. I was screaming at the TV because everytime a band started to play in front of Gallier Hall they'd go to a tape of highlights, or the announcers' favorite moments from Miami, or focus on the 2 announcers instead of SHOWING THE PARADE! :sad2:

shovan - I'm hoping y'all were able to make it back home in time to see some of the televised coverage. Once I heard traffic reports, I was afraid a lot of people were going to be experiencing it via radio only.

Flora - Take it easy so you can feel better quickly. It looks like we'll have some cold parades this weekend.

To all of you who are frantically packing before heading to DW for the holiday - HAVE FUN!

Morning y'all,

Yes we were able to watch it on tv. DH had recorded it. It looks like a great parade, but we did the right thing bailing out. A friend that was in the ferry line ahead of us (they got there at 4:00) didn't get across to Canal St until 8:40! They caught only part of the parade. Then waited an hour in the ferry line & it didn't move, so they called for someone to pick them up. It still took them until 1:30 to get home.

muffin, We parked in Gretna & then tried to get across. The Gretna Ferry wasn't taking any cars, I don't know about Algiers.

The parade looked awesome though! It was fun to see the guys having so much fun. Who knew that Sean & Drew had so much soul!

shelby's mommy, That pic is AWESOME!!! I have to laugh at you wanting to marry shelby & Drew's son Baylen! My DD is close to Eli Manning's age. As a baby we planned that marriage! Always joked about it, then we she got up to marrying age, what does she say "He's not cute!" :sad2: Kids! What ya gonna do?!;)

Lorie, So sorry Sienna is feeling sick! Hope she gets well for Endymion! I'd be visiting with you for that, if we weren't headed to WDW.

I'm feeling a little more excited about the trip, but also dreading the cold!! Looks like lows next week over there are going to be pretty chilly too.

Looking at some of the videos from last night, I have to say these were my favorite moments- The normally very formal USMC band getting crunked, the rocking stands @ Gallier Hall, and the whole Saints crew having a fabulous time!

I did get nervous for a few of those players who were hanging over the sides of the floats for autographs & interviews. Goodness knows we didn't need that kind of accident happening!

Hey y'all!

Oh, I am just so disgusted right now! The insurance company originally said DH's car was a total, so we have spent the last week looking for and then finding a new car, and just waiting for the adjuster to tell us how much they were going to give us for DH's car so we could finally purchase this car (RAV4). Well the adjuster called and said they had two Camry's confused and DH's car is NOT a total and is repairable. I'm so ticked...they wasted our time, the dealership's time, not to mention the fact that I fell in love with the car we were going to buy which I am now not going to get! I filed a claim with the insurance co when I didn't even have to because the body shop said it was unrepairable(we were originally going to pay out of pocket for the repairs) and now my rates are going to go up too- for nothing! I could just cry! :sad1: I need some good luck desperately...

Sheryl- I'm sorry you didn't make it to the parade, but it was for the best I think! DH bailed because he said it was way too crowded and cold to enjoy.

Lorie, That sucks! So, the frame isn't bent after all??

Lorie, That sucks! So, the frame isn't bent after all??

Nope, doesn't seem that way. There were two gray Camrys, one a total and one not, and they confused the two. I am just royally ticked after having gone through all of this. He was hemming and hawing a lot on the phone- he knew they screwed up! He still has to give me the repair totals, which doesn't really matter since I just have to pay the deductible. This also stinks because I have been without a car for two weeks now, and will have to be without a car for at least another two weeks while they fix DH's car. At least it's cold outside so I would be going stir crazy anyway from being a house hermit.

Lorie-I am so sorry!! What a PITA!! I would be disappointed also, esp if you "saw" what you'de be getting and how it would work for your family.

Sheryl- I am praying for some warm sun to shine strong- it IS cold today. I guess though, like Disney can say in summer, so many of the attractions and things to do are INside and you can be cool or warm, depending on time of year.

We were in Downtown Disney last night with DH's boss and co worker who was here for the dance competitions. We had dinner at Cap'n Jacks and that made my kids happy! Of course, I booked and planned it b/c they all know me as a Disney freak;):rotfl:

DH is working fm home today and to 'get out of his hair' we are going to a movie in DD. One thing that a fellow homeschooler mentioned about living down here and homeschooling is that the police are never gonna question why your kids aren't in school- that is a definite plus! Not that has ever happened to us.

As much as we missed watching the parade last night and FB and the NOLA Dis was soo abandoned b/c of the parade- we had a fun time last night. We are gonna look for the parade on WWL, but we saw a few personal pics on FB.

I have been on so much b/c other than our outing last week, we've been really cooped up. DH finally got his car so I am free to go if I need too. He's been having the car.

We have to find a Petsmart and post office today also.

My mom's birthday is Friday and I have YET to send her gift!

See ya-Lori

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers- we are very frustrated about not being able to close on the house this week. I cannot tell you how much we all want our own beds now. Week 1 was like a vacation and now we just wanna go home- at least have our own beds! We are going to sneak a look at the house again- we are very eager to get in there.
FHA has tons of new rules coming out all the time and each time it changes a rule we need to sign something saying we know about it and then we gotta wait 48 hours after they get the paperwork back- and before they add some new rule. Our financing has been done and complete and ready to go for 2 weeks now! Congress is still in session and we are praying they make NO more changes! I wish they'd all take a vacation for a week till we close!
