Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 09/2009

Just a quick check in to tell everyone hi. I hope everyone had a great Mardi Gras!! I have to go back quite a few pages to catch up.

We had a great unbelievable Mardi Gras season, but got some sad news yesterday--my husband grandfather died early Monday morning. He was 93 and he has been in bad health the past few years, but it still is sad. In some ways, I hate to say this but it is a relief. He was in a lot of pain and hasn't recognized members of his family for a few years. He had dementia. Please keep Darryl's grandmother in your prayers. She and his grandfather were married for 71 years.

 That is tough to deal with. I'll keep your family in my prayers. And 71 years?!? Wow that is :lovestruc right there.

Wow what a pile of you know what!! :lmao::lmao:

Uh, yeah. :lmao: And most of the plushes were not in the picture, and none of the cups or frisbees!

Good morning! We got in late last night, had a fantastic trip!!!!! Not sure if I'll have time to catch up here today or not, have tons of errands to run and loads of laundry...bbl....

I'm not sure what happened with my cell phone on this trip. I kept texting Lori & Sheryl but got no answers. I realized yesterday that the only calls/texts I received were from Kyle. Johnny got no calls either and we had full signals?????

Welcome home! I'm glad it was a great trip....no dental issues I hope??

Weird on the phone...I hope you get it figured out.

I too have tons of errands to run today. You see it's after 10 and I haven't left yet. :rolleyes1

Mary- Don't think there's anything wrong with relief from death of a beloved grandparent. It's emotional relief, not glad relief. We'll be keeping your family in our prayers. 71 years of marriage is a wonderful thing to be able to go to heaven with! wow!

VERY wierd for Sheryl, but i ahev had cell phone dilemmas for the past 2 days. I am finally past is but I lost all of my contacts. I could recover SOME, for some reason, but not all. So sorry for missing that!

Glad your trip was so much fun!
Can't wait to hear about it!

Lori

Hey y'all!

We stayed home yesterday and watched the parades from the comfort and warmth of my own home. Lazy day! Unfortunately, Erik's cold seems to be hanging on, so I'm bringing him to the dr later today.

Mary- I'm so sorry to hear about your DH's grandfather. 71 years- wow! Your family will be in my prayers.

Kathy- Welcome home! Can't wait to hear all about the trip!

Lori- Sounds like y'all had a great night last night with Sheryl & co! I can't wait to try WCC in May- was it good?

Bethany- That is quite a pile you have there. It's funny, after the parades you just look at the pile and wonder what am I gonna do with all of this junk (that you worked so hard to get!)? :rotfl:

Another thing to consider with the cell phones....the towers may have been overloaded. I had some trouble with my phone this past week, almost exclusively when I was in crowded places. I had trouble at Endymion, there were so many people and I heard a lot of complaints about the service cutting in and out. I also had trouble last Tuesday night (Lombardi Gras ;)) and Sunday after the Superbowl (in the Quarter).

Hi everyone! I hope ya'll had a great Mardi Gras! We stayed home, we rarely do parades anymore. I spent the day working on income taxes, fun!

Bethany - that's quite a haul!

Lori - sounds like a great time! I love WCC!

Kat - welcome home! Glad ya'll had a great time; bummer about the phone messages. :confused3

Condolences to you and your family, and prayers for Darryl's grandmother. 71 years, wow! I do understand the relief aspect. My Dad lingered for several months in a vegetative state before he passed away. And it was a great sense of relief then.

I thought about that. Between President's week crowd and Mardi gras crowd there was a huge cheerleading championship there too. Kyle said quite a few times when he tried calling us it went straight to our voicemail. I've never been to WDW when it was that crowded!

Thanks for the prayers. Yesterday we had Darryl's grandmother over for dinner. She was already talking about not being around to see the all the great grandkids grow up. She is not in the best of health herself and I think she was holding on to be around for him. This will be a hard week for her.:sad1:

So sorry to hear this Mary. His grandmother will be in our prayers.

Okay....NOW what am I supposed to do with this stuff? :confused3

Holy Moly, that is a ton of junk :) Keep it stored somewhere. I usually just give it to a friend I know is riding. They can always use them. I like to recycle. The fun is catching them, but I don't like to keep them.

Lori, sounds like an awesome night with Sheryl.

Kat, I am sorry about your phone. The crowds must have been unbelievable!

Well, we decided that now that Logan is 10, it is high time he learned about lent. We asked him what he wanted to give up this year and he said initially his chores, but with further prodding he decided sugary drinks would be the thing. Now he is counting down the 40 days and 40 nights until he can have chocolate milk for lunch again. I also want to bring him to see the Stations of the Cross. I just want it to be him this year, as Spencer will make it a miserable experience for everyone in attendance.

I finally got my rear in gear and am in the finishing stages of the boys bedroom. The carpet they had was plain gross, in both color and condition so I am putting down vinyl tiles in there. I find those to be the most durable for them and so much easier to keep clean. The room looks 100% better. Over the summer I am going to repaint their walls since whoever last did it painted latex over oil and it is peeling off in spots. The room was a bright blue so it stands out against the current white walls. I know I can at least go back to work feeling good that I got something accomplished over the break.

Mary - It is going to be extremely difficult for her, I will keep her in my prayers.

Forgot to mention that the "Who Dat Nation" was very well represented in WDW. 30 minutes never passed without hearing or saying "Who Dat", it was so much fun!

I know the feelings of sadness and relief:hug:. We had them when my grandfather and then grandmother died. You were sweet to have your grandmother-in-law over for dinner. Lots of hugs and prayers.

Great view!!! I'm glad y'all had a wonderful trip!!!

Today is Rie's sweet 16 and she's away at school.:sad1: We cannot talk to her for another few weeks but at least we can communicate by email. Tim and I sent her birthday emails. Our liaison called us today and told us that she had a very good day and there were no tears. The kitchen baked her a birthday cake and she was able to share it with her group. Even though I'm missing her terribly, sending her to this school is probably the best gift we could ever give her. Rie is sounding very positive in her emails. Her attitude seems to have done a 180. We are so grateful and thank God a thousand times a day!
I've been out of touch because we've been at the camp. We're truly in the middle of the swamp!!! The other day we bought an air card to get the internet but it's like a v e r y s l o w dial up. It would more than likely take 10-15 minutes to open the DIS and then that much time again to load the NOLA group, so instead of getting aggravated and throwing my laptop, I figured that I'd wait until we got home to get back in touch with y'all. Tim and I are leaving on Sunday for Gatlinburg. It's a 5 day getaway. I'm bringing my laptop, so I'll check in with y'all.

Nice pic Kathy..yes the pic does look a bit fuzzy.

Julie I'm glad things are looking up for Rie and that she enjoyed her birthday. :) Enjoy your trip to Gatlinburg.

Lori how'd the dr apointment turn out? I too enjoyed a nice day at home yesterday.:thumbsup2

Bethany did you finish your errands? Better yet did you ever start them...if you're like me, I bet you got sidetracked. :lmao:

Cara how'd you spend your last day before returning to school?

I hope Sheryl and her gang are enjoying themselves at the world.

I mostly finished the errands. I did NOT finish the things around the house, but they can hold off for tomorrow evening/this upcoming weekend.

I went to Target and scored big time with things on clearance. :thumbsup2 Totally not on the list, but mostly consumable household stuff that I won't need to buy until probably August or so. :lmao:

I also went to Academy and got some sneakers and a Saints shirt. I wanted a black Saints shirt with short sleeves that said champions on it or something to that effect. The black champions shirt was only in long sleeves. I should have bought it. It would have jinxed the weather into warming up immediately. I ended up getting a Superbowl shirt that is cute, just does not specify champions though. I think we all know who won. ;) I can enlighten anyone who is still somehow clueless. :rolleyes1

Funny thing with the sneakers though: the first shoe that caught my eye on the display were the exact same ones I was wearing. :lmao: Guess I am consistent with my taste in shoes. :rotfl2:

Dropped off my overdue book at the library, got gas, and went to Winn-Dixie.

I feel like I got nothing done today, but actually I did. I just did not get everything on my list done. Maybe I just need to make shorter lists! :rolleyes1

That is a great view!

Do all your pictures look blurry, or just this one? It's a bit blurry, but not too bad. The streetlamps are on; it's dusk. Your flash may not have gone off. If it didn't, you almost need a tripod to get it steady enough to not be blurry when taking shots like this. Another possibility is if you had just stepped outside and there was a change in humidity causing fogging, but this doesn't look quite like that.

My best guess is it's related to the lighting.

Julie - I'm so sorry you can't spend Rie's birthday with her but this is the best gift you can give her. Enjoy your trip!!!!

Bethany - here's another pic, I think they all look blurry:
