I moved to CA in the late 70s during a 2 year drought. I'd heard for years about the "rainy" season. I moved away and didn't go back until the late 80s - again in a drought. So I'd never seen this mythical rainy season that I'd heard of for a decade.
Finally we get a "rainy" year - what whimps! Just a slight sprinkle - no umbrella or raincoat needed. The yearly rain fall is about 10 inches. We get that in New Orleans in a good afternoon. I told my friends there that I never wanted to hear about this "rainy" season again.
In New Orleans you get these drops the size of saucers that beat down on you like a drum. You can be soaked to the skin in seconds. Water will be above the ankles in no time.
Where my parents live, they average about 7-10 inches of precipitation a year. For July the average is about 0.25" for the MONTH. I was in high school before I came to the realization that filthy cars are NOT the norm!

It tends to rain mud there when it does rain in the summer, because it's so dry that the winds that bring in the rain will whip up a dust storm first, so the rain falls through the dirt and becomes mud!
10" of rain does not sound like a "good afternoon", by the way.
Bethany, I'm glad you will be getting out of that apt. soon! I think that it and stress are making you sick.

No tax on clothes in NYC?? I don't know if she knows that! I'll texted her just in case. I hope the weather is clearing up over there, they have tickets for baseball tomorrow.
Thanks for the hug. I need it. I am dreading going in tomorrow.
Yes ma'am! No tax on clothes and shoes that cost under $110 (per item)!

We are going to start having to pay 5c per plastic bag at the supermarket, but no tax on clothes!

(They will change that back soon...they used to be taxed up until a couple of years ago.)
I think you posted elsewhere that the game is today, right? Bad news...it was clearing up ALL DAY and just started raining again. My friend is at the game (he's a sports writer) and he says they may postpone the game. As of right now it's about 5 minutes before game time and the tarp is on the field. I asked him when they would reschedule if it's postponed and he says probably not until August or September! I HOPE that is not the case!
And I hope security was not horrible to get in the stadium. Last time I went to a game I got wanded AND patted down.

Hey guys!
Had a great time camping.. canoing was a ball.. just long with
the kiddo, he didnt understand why we didnt get out and swim. Asked about every 5 minutes.
Ummm we dont swim with snakes sweetie.
Of course I leave for a cpl of days and my parents fall apart.
Im going to check up on what the rest of you crazy folks did over the weekend.

Once when I was younger we were swimming in the river when someone saw a snake in the water. We got out so fast!

You need a hug. I hope your parents are doing better now.
Bethany- Hope you feel better!
I do, thanks.
Just in case anybody missed my other thread. This is me as a bridesmaid (in Monroe, LA) in the mid 70s.
It was a strange wedding. Both the father and brother of the bride made passes at me that evening. The bride was the original Bridezilla.

OMG!

You are one brave soul to POST THAT!
And now I'm wondering what this other thread you speak of is like...
My other roommate was also a bridesmaid - she is coming to visit me this weekend in New Orleans. I'll have to bring the picture and ask her if she has one too.
I remember having to almost physically restrain her when she saw the ostrich plumes. She threw it on the floor and said "I'm not wearing this *&^$% thing on my head." I was so shocked at her swearing in the church - but those ostrich plumes were curse worthy. (and yes she did wear it).

You owe me screen cleaner for that one!
So my DH decided that it'd be better if we go the other route he found for getting our stuff down to NOLA. So, we are going to get it driven down (we pack it and load their truck and they drive) and we will fly down! He was nervous about me driving the truck all 1400 miles by myself - especially because I usually drive compact/economy cars! So now we have flights (ONE WAY TICKETS

) for June 30! The ones for June 30 were like $90 and for July 1 they were $340 each.

Glad we got the cheaper day!
Oh and I think in two weekends we are going to go test drive cars!
A couple questions (wow this post is getting long

)
-Do you have Boar's Head meat? I think you said you did but today my DH had to ask and then got all silly, saying "I hope we don't have to get some knock-off Swine's Head or something!"
-On driver's licenses, do they give them to you at the DMV that day or do they mail them out like 3 weeks later? And does anybody know if you have to have an La license to buy a car in La or can I get a car when I still have NY license?
What would I do without you all helping me out?
