Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

I'm still reeling from the Miss Kitty Bridesmaid Dress thread...:rotfl2: That dress was super special!
Just in case anybody missed my other thread. This is me as a bridesmaid (in Monroe, LA) in the mid 70s.

It was a strange wedding. Both the father and brother of the bride made passes at me that evening. The bride was the original Bridezilla.

Tricia, We are going from the Oct 15th -21st.

Yep, 10/17-10/21 at WDW then 10/21-10/25 at US/IOA!!

Thanks - I'll keep those dates in mind.

I took a young friend to W&F a few years ago just after she was diagnosed with MS. Her mother (my age) and another friend of mine went too.

None of them wanted to eat anything but "normal" food - like chicken nuggets at the American Pavillion. :confused3 I just kept reminding myself that the trip was not about me - I could go some other time - as I passed up all the great food offerings. We did have a great time though.

OMG Tricia, that is priceless....:lmao:
My other roommate was also a bridesmaid - she is coming to visit me this weekend in New Orleans. I'll have to bring the picture and ask her if she has one too.

I remember having to almost physically restrain her when she saw the ostrich plumes. She threw it on the floor and said "I'm not wearing this *&^$% thing on my head." I was so shocked at her swearing in the church - but those ostrich plumes were curse worthy. (and yes she did wear it).

haha! I would be prob cussing all the way to the alter about those feathers!
Im sure the feathers hypnotized the father and brother.. thats why they hit on you. Plus even with all the horrible clothing they could see u were a hottie!

I moved to CA in the late 70s during a 2 year drought. I'd heard for years about the "rainy" season. I moved away and didn't go back until the late 80s - again in a drought. So I'd never seen this mythical rainy season that I'd heard of for a decade.

Finally we get a "rainy" year - what whimps! Just a slight sprinkle - no umbrella or raincoat needed. The yearly rain fall is about 10 inches. We get that in New Orleans in a good afternoon. I told my friends there that I never wanted to hear about this "rainy" season again.

In New Orleans you get these drops the size of saucers that beat down on you like a drum. You can be soaked to the skin in seconds. Water will be above the ankles in no time.

Where my parents live, they average about 7-10 inches of precipitation a year. For July the average is about 0.25" for the MONTH. I was in high school before I came to the realization that filthy cars are NOT the norm! It tends to rain mud there when it does rain in the summer, because it's so dry that the winds that bring in the rain will whip up a dust storm first, so the rain falls through the dirt and becomes mud! :woohoo:

10" of rain does not sound like a "good afternoon", by the way. :rotfl:

Bethany, I'm glad you will be getting out of that apt. soon! I think that it and stress are making you sick.

 No tax on clothes in NYC?? I don't know if she knows that! I'll texted her just in case. I hope the weather is clearing up over there, they have tickets for baseball tomorrow.

Thanks for the hug. I need it. I am dreading going in tomorrow.

Yes ma'am! No tax on clothes and shoes that cost under $110 (per item)! :thumbsup2 We are going to start having to pay 5c per plastic bag at the supermarket, but no tax on clothes! :rotfl: (They will change that back soon...they used to be taxed up until a couple of years ago.)

I think you posted elsewhere that the game is today, right? Bad news...it was clearing up ALL DAY and just started raining again. My friend is at the game (he's a sports writer) and he says they may postpone the game. As of right now it's about 5 minutes before game time and the tarp is on the field. I asked him when they would reschedule if it's postponed and he says probably not until August or September! I HOPE that is not the case! :scared1:

And I hope security was not horrible to get in the stadium. Last time I went to a game I got wanded AND patted down. :confused3:scared:

Hey guys!

Had a great time camping.. canoing was a ball.. just long with
the kiddo, he didnt understand why we didnt get out and swim. Asked about every 5 minutes.
Ummm we dont swim with snakes sweetie.

Of course I leave for a cpl of days and my parents fall apart.

Im going to check up on what the rest of you crazy folks did over the weekend.

:lmao: Once when I was younger we were swimming in the river when someone saw a snake in the water. We got out so fast! :scared1:

:hug:You need a hug. I hope your parents are doing better now.

Bethany- Hope you feel better!

I do, thanks. :goodvibes

:scared1: OMG! :lmao: You are one brave soul to POST THAT!

And now I'm wondering what this other thread you speak of is like...:rolleyes1

:lmao: You owe me screen cleaner for that one!

So my DH decided that it'd be better if we go the other route he found for getting our stuff down to NOLA. So, we are going to get it driven down (we pack it and load their truck and they drive) and we will fly down! He was nervous about me driving the truck all 1400 miles by myself - especially because I usually drive compact/economy cars! So now we have flights (ONE WAY TICKETS ) for June 30! The ones for June 30 were like $90 and for July 1 they were $340 each. :scared: Glad we got the cheaper day!

Oh and I think in two weekends we are going to go test drive cars! :yay:

A couple questions (wow this post is getting long :rolleyes1)
-Do you have Boar's Head meat? I think you said you did but today my DH had to ask and then got all silly, saying "I hope we don't have to get some knock-off Swine's Head or something!"

-On driver's licenses, do they give them to you at the DMV that day or do they mail them out like 3 weeks later? And does anybody know if you have to have an La license to buy a car in La or can I get a car when I still have NY license?

What would I do without you all helping me out? :grouphug:

I hope they will get better and do well for many, many more years - but don't fret too much about not having siblings. In the end it may save you countless heartaches by being disappointed in how little some siblings seem to care about their parents.

I hope I don't sound too cynical here. It's just that I've found that most of the time one sibling will step up to the plate while the others pretend that nothing is wrong.

kind of know what you are dealing with, although my parents were much younger. they took turns being severely sick. and even though I have siblings, they were either not available or not interested in helping. which I think hurt even more. you have a lot of "sisters" here.

It is prob better I deal with all this on my own I know. I do have great cousins, Aunts, friends and close family church members that will always be there for me to lean on.

LOl i always call myself an only child.. but I do have a sister and brother.. my sister is actually just my dad's step daughter from previous marriage.. he did raise her.. but she has lived in Michigan for the last 40 + yrs and a total WITCH.. not to mention she is about 65 so i wasnt raised with her. While Daddy and she are close.. i keep her at a distance once i realized how mean she was to Mom when Dad not looking. She will not be an issue because Daddy never adopted her, so legally she cant intrude unless Mom and I let her. Mom tries hard to get along with her for Dad and I know she loves Daddy dearly, but she has her own life .

My half Brother is about 63 and has only been here once to visit us and a nice enough guy.. but once again in Texas with own life and he wont be allowed to make any decisions but will be kept in the loop.

Im just over thinking..Daddy is off to a meeting with friends right now and feeling fine Mom said. Ive prob got quite a bit of time before to much worry needs to set in.

I think you can buy a car no matter what license you have. :confused3

NO idea about the meat-sounds, ummm..... yum.:rolleyes1 My hubby likes Hog head cheese??? But if it is cheese actually, I have NO idea.

OK, get ready to LYAO....:lmao::rotfl:

They (job) called to say we'd get all the offer and details tomorrow...:lmao:........um.....................:scared:

Don't hold your breath!

Thanks...I've never bought a car and so I'm basically clueless. :rolleyes1

Um, that sounds a bit familiar! :lmao: Is this the third time? Maybe it's the charm?

The first time I got my license here, it took more than 4 hours and they mail it to you a few weeks later. When I got it renewed, it took about 3 hours and again I had to wait for it to come in the mail. GUESS WHAT. My NYS license needs renewing AGAIN this fall! :confused3 I've only lived here FOUR YEARS!

He needs Boar's Head...cuz it's like a Mardi Gras in your mouth! :lmao:

You get them after spending half your life....errr I mean day..there. will have to check into the LA license to buy a car thing...

What would I do without you all helping me out? :grouphug:

http://www.nola.com/forums/jefftownhall/index.ssf?artid=53224 is the link I used to find out about the boar's head. just googled "boar's head in metairie"
after 4 years, you get to renew through the mail. after 8 years you have to go in for the fun again. my sticker already came off the back of my license after less than a year ... now it is taped on

Kat, They went back to 90 days! I thought they had reverted back to 180. We would like to get together with you & Johnny and we love FF too! I want to book that with y'all, but since we won't have the F&W event schedule ( probably not out until late August) I hope you won't be offended if we end up bailing on you for some special F&W event. They make it so hard not coming out with that sooner. I'm hoping we can get together for dinner & if not at least have drinks together.

Tricia, We are going from the Oct 15th -21st.

wish I could crash on the floor... :(

Awwwww :goodvibes Have a great time! I hope it's as good or better than your last get-together! :thumbsup2

I'm going back to work today. :scared: I wonder what they'll bother me about today. :headache:

Sheryl, they did end up playing the game last night, but there was a minor fiasco at the Stadium. They had announced a rain delay and a lot of people left, then they refused them entry back into the Stadium. It was in the 50s with a cold rain too, so I don't know what kind of experience she had. I hope it was a good one! :upsidedow

Have a good day, everybody. I'm going to try at least!

Good Morning NOLA.

Lots of errands to do today. Haircut it top on the list. Then I'll be heading over to Kendall's school to help sort all of the boxes from her cheerleader fundraiser. I'll be lost in chocolates and cookie dough. The part I dread most in then delivering and collecting the money. :headache: Thank goodness they only do one per year for cheerleading. This one is actually for next year's squad to help with the uniforms, summer camp etc.

Forgive me for not reading back yet. I hope all is well with everyone. Hugs to those who need them.

Thanks - I'll keep those dates in mind.

I hope you can make it!:goodvibes

It is prob better I deal with all this on my own I know. I do have great cousins, Aunts, friends and close family church members that will always be there for me to lean on.

Please remember I am here if you need to talk.

Kristina - I pm'd you.

Bethany - Rouse's carries Boars Head.

Have a great day all!

Please remember I am here if you need to talk.

Morning all.. icky outside, starting to feel like summer with the humidity.

Off to the gym this morning, gotta get back on my routine.

Yall have a great day!

Hi ladies.

Had another LATE night studying and reading with DD. We were up until 130 this morning. Yea I know that's crazy. :sad2:The child will probably fall asleep on her desk. Just so ready for school to end.:rolleyes1

Like summer? Omg. It's only in the 50s here with this cold rain STILL sticking around. This is going on day 5 of days in a row with rain. Sheryl, what does Angelina think of the weather up here? I was thinking this morning that she's probably freezing!

I am at work today, but I'm still not feeling well. I couldn't really stay home again today though. Later!
